BVS40FL Added a reply to new vs. old talent

6/13/2010 7:48am
I remember seeing team photos in the DB and MXA of Team Honda and it looked like a baseball team photo. They had 3 125 guys 3 250 guys and 3 open class guys , plus all those mechanics. The fastest guys today MAY be faster than the fastest of those days but....... the talent pool was WAY deeper then...

By far my favorite track ever. I always had my best races there. I wonder if I went faster there , or if the big sandy whoops just slowed the fast guys down a little so I could keep up ? Oh well, also rode my only FTR hare scrambles event there. I think it was about an eight mile...

That picture of the 76 MX 125 c reminded me that there were (3) models that particular year . Also included were the YZ 125 c and the YZ 125 X that was the C with the fork reservoirs on top, the 520 chain, and the larger carb. The X was my first race bike. It was someone else's used...

BVS40FL Added a reply to Monte McCoy

Those guys were my heroes when I first started going to the track to watch races at St.Pete. Like you said , I was amazed at how Monte could hit McCoy's mountain at that speed and whip it over the top at what seemed like 6" inches above the ground. And how Martin would run around above the top of...

He also did a lot of Karting motors and carbs here in Fla. Not sure of the years but a friend of mine used to race Karts and bought some stuff from him. He turned his business over to someone later when he retired.

Paul, that last post is the kind of thing one reads when they buy a book about a sports hero. I'm glad there is a place like this that I can come a read inside stories like that. Have you ever considered writing a book about your experience from the ground up ? I love reading old school MX stuff...

I worked on the box van one time at the Ford dealer where I still work. He was down here for the Winter -Am or the Tampa stadium Supercross. I can't remember which. He gave me an autographed picture/postcard of him jumping over the box van. Wish I knew where that was and I could scan it for you. And...

I thought my '81 was fast at the time, but I had just moved up from a 125 and it was a big jump in horsepower. When I got my '83 it felt much faster.

I remember being at Golden Eagles spectating, two years before I ever raced , and seeing John Joyner . It was the first time I ever saw a Husqvarna and was in awe as he spanked the guys who usually won every week. Also along that same time I would go to St Pete and if you would volunteer to...

Which also makes sense , because if the factory bike was water cooled in '80 then the H model '81 was a water cooled production bike. I think that '81 model was my favorite 125 .

I'm gonna guess 78' Because my 79' came with the number plates far back like that. They usually incorporated the trick stuff from the factory bikes the following year on the production bike. If that shot is from St. Pete. I'm sure I was drooling over the bike at some point during the day.
