I wish I still had my 83 RM250. I'd love to have a mid 80's CR250 or 500.

81 YZ 80 was my first "race" motorscooter.
83 KX80- was so far advanced from the 82 KX80 that I had, it was like having a factory ride in the Intermediate class.
85 KX250- loved that bike.
86 and 87 CR125's, great bikes.
I guess I would just like to own most every MXer I grew up with, except my 86 KX250. I hated that heavy boat anchor pile of crap. So I switched to an 86 CR125 and loved it.
And while I am at it, can I have back all of my old JT gear as well?

I dream some times of old motorcycles or cars I once owned . Its a weekend and I can sleep in but in my dream I toy around with going out to fire up a long gone YZ that was stolen in the night July of 95. Or even the Baja Bug I had in high school, that a friend managed to get banned from school property by slinging roost up in the second story typing classroom with the rear B.F. Goodrich All-Terrains while he was farming the schoolyard next to the parking lot . So I want back the 93 YZ , but I hope the guy that stole it overheated it, that would serve him right . It had a leak in the radiator from that night at practice for a moto, and I had all the coolant out of it.

Oh man,
If I could just go back to when I was pulling my little homemade
3 rail trailer with my 1976 YZ125 X on it behind my 1968 Road Runner !!!
Simpler times indeed.

That's funny. I used to pull my '76 YZ125X and '76 MX125C behind my '72 Barracuda on a Comet 3 rail trailer. I still have the MX125C. Mopar and Yamaha.

When my dad passed away in the '80's, I was lucky to get ahold of my first two bikes I ever had while settling his estate in Bakersfield ,California. Had not seen them in 20 years, but the '68 Honda Mini Trail was buried under a bunch of cardboard boxes in his garage, and a close family friend had my '70 Indian Boy Racer 50 that my dad had loaned him for his kids. They are rough, but both run, and I got 'em!

1980 & 1981 YZ 125 with Keystone (now Pro-Action) suspension and "Flo-Power" porting and blue seat Keystone seat covers. I sold the 1980 125G (it had a DG head) to cover gas & party money for the summer. Dumb.

'81 YZ 250 that had a Jim Felt ported barrel on it...holeshot machine! I had a 465 that year too...last year for the monoshocks

Back in 1977 I lived in north Georgia and raced in the 100cc class. I was between 15 and 16 years old and had the 1977 RM 100B. The machine had a few mods an was fast but used up top end parts quickly. Plus I was about 30 pounds bigger than most 100cc riders. Back in 1977 the 100cc class had great competition and big turnouts at most races. In 1978 I started riding 250cc until 1983, But my best memories are of my dad and I racing that 1977 RM 100B

This is a cool post.
I experienced this urge, ( to restore old bikes I had or wanted as a kid ) in 1987.

And I fed this desire for five years and spent thousands of dollars, not to mention the hundreds of hours of labor.

I met some really great people, and some not so great, during this process. Had a ball!

1969 Yamaha AT1 125 Enduro
1971 Honda SL 125
1970 Montesa Mini Cota 50cc
1974 Suzuki TM 125
1976 Honda CR 125
1978 Suzuki RM 250
1974 Maico 250
1970 Hodaka 100 Super Rat
1973 Hodaka 125 Wombat
1972 Yamaha CT2 175 Enduro
1971 Yamaha HT1 90 Enduro
They are all gone now. Too much up-keep, etc.
Have fun with your own projects, seems parts are more available today, and I didn't have the internet at the time of my restorations..............oh well.

Wish I had kept my 76 Pursang. I think this was one of the most beautiful bikes ever built and it was my first new MX bike that I started racing on.
Put a 75 swing arm on it with Works Performance shocks and a pair of Metzler tires.

I wish I had my first bike, a 1982 YZ 60. I would fix it up and keep it forever.

For me the one that stands out the most was my 1984 Honda CR250. I was only 15 years old when my Dad tossed me on a brand new one. He bought it under the auspices to Mom that it was for "him", but I don't think he ever logged more than 2 hours on it. (pretty clever one there Pop!).
I had been on an 80 only a year prior, and had been racing a 125 for a year.

I had thought the 125 was a "big big" until I rode that CR250!
After a lap or two on the CR250 I questioned why I would ever want to shift a zillion times a moto on a 125 pegged wide open & screaming.

That bike stands out to me as my first "real" MX bike. I'm not bagging on the 125 loving crowd here, but since I was a big kid, it was like I finally found the right fit for me.
I went on a tear from then on, and I recall winning throughout the remainder of 1984 on it (including a state championship).

Of course not long after this I was struck with the dreaded "Girls & Cars" syndrome that has derailed numerous potential pro MX careers including my once aspiring one too!!! LOL!!!

Anyway-- If I had a time machine, I'd go back to 1984, that CR250, and my all white Sinisalo gear (...and still have that gear that fit me too!)

YZ250D...it was awesome bike.
Larry even liked it, so much so that he let me ride his 76 Pursang.

That was a fine ride. I even had fun riding it in 18 degree weather.

1972 JT-1. My dad took mine to the dump after I seized it spinning doughnuts in the front yard. Neither one of us knew enough about mechanics to fix it.

1980 RM400. I bought it the day before I started high school, and once I turned 16, I traded it for a 1971 Pinto- which I totaled 5 days after receiving my license. I miss the bike, not the Pinto.

Wow, I am really happy I still own my 1975 CR125 and 1976 KX250. Both bikes were new when my dad bought them. I raced them in district 6 in those years.
