The article I read from the accident is that the train came from behind a lumber store...the sun was dropping and facing right into the cars front windshield. There was only a blinking train light signal that was hard to see because of the sun. So that was the original "official" statements made to the press. Later, obviously I have read that he was crossing the tracks and ignoring the signal all weekend long. The article also stated that they were in a truck and just got done racing and were running to get some food before the trophy presentations.

Both Bruce bunch and Rick Hemme were 16, while Kyle Flemming was 13.

Rick Hemme finished 4th, 2nd, and in his very last race, a 1st place that day.

i also remember bruce had a broken wrist and was racing with a cast on that day...and he was still up around the top 5...

by the way, that bike was bruce's 1981 bike...the last bikes he was on were single shock bikes....

Most talent? I vote for Jojo Keller. He was never the fastest, the luckiest or the fittest but he could sure do some wild stuff on a dirt bike

FYI:
If this bike has the red Kurnut shocks, then it is not the actual 82' full floater. The full floater in 82 was a single shock. Just an FYI! and the guy on vintage factory is mistaken.

Actually Mikkola was (1) of the best riders I have ever seen, very smooth and fluid always looking for results not always 1st place, In the End he would WIN. He was a Classic thinking rider! Work was his Motto. Not Pleasure! I was at Carlsbad when Mikkola won with a broken collarbone 1978 I think. How many rider's today could win a overall with a 1 week old broken collarbone!

If we could hold one race for all the marbles with every rider in the peak of their career riding equal bikes on a good, challenging outdoor track I don't think anyone could touch Ricky Johnson.

Burleson in the trees, Malcom in the desert and Roger D in MX???? Hard question to answer so many guys that could tear it up. Jobe, Glover, Wardy, Aberg, Ake Jonson(late bloomer), Barnett,................too many to name. By the way I named my first son after Bengt Aberg and my third son after Rossi.

I watched Dick Mann get a top ten finish riding a BSA thumper in 1971 racing the best in the world at a Trans-Am motorcross race at the old Orlando Sports Stadium. I think he was over 35 at the time. He was the Mann.

JMB is my hero, Ron Lechin was un-human. RC is the goat and has possibly the best corner speed of any racers which makes me believe that while fragile, Robbie Reynard was the most talented by far. If you have seen the 2nd moto from Unadilla in 1998 then you know what I mean. RR flat out road around the outside of RC in the second corner towards the end of that moto. Pure poetry in motion.

I am not saying that one corner makes him better than RC or the GOAT 2. I am simply saying that for someone to do that against the "GREATEST OF ALL TIME" simply takes talent. Thought that was the title to this post......Not the "GREATEST OF ALL TIME". RC is the man, but for someone to have the skill to pass someone with probably the best corner speed this sport has ever seen takes skills.
