Seen a few posts on Facebook, about 4 cases of the auto decompression failing

Damn.... quick search on causes and how to repair. Does not sound lIke a small job.

If this happens, you need to get it to the dealer for a warranty repair.

KX450 is November 23rd.

Do you know if Husky will be around the same date as KTM?

On the 27? Quick search online shows this as an issue on the 2017 & 2020 models

Just an FYI, Honda has no warranty on competition bikes.

Thats not to say they wont help or fix it but they could also tell people to pound sand.

I don't understand why they don't smooth out the yzf in any of these reviews. The tuning app is free and it comes stock on the bikes. Do some laps with all zeros, then play around with it and see if the lap times change.

Yes. Honda rep said he’d had a few cases of it already.

Anywhere here have issues yet?

Soooo I picked up a new 25 this spring and it had the issue after 2 rides. Yes its not a 27, but this issue is quietly out there. Sometimes its the classic starter reduction gear issue, starter clutch etc., not in my case.

I Brought it to the dealer thinking maybe it would get warrantied as it didnt even have 2 hrs on it, but Honda told us to pound salt. After 5 or 6 weeks of going back and forth with honda, as to what the issue might be, my dealer gave up. The dealer tried everything on the electrical side and again honda was no help other than saying that there might have been a "micro explosion" which cracked the cases. At this point the dealer asked if I wanted them to take the engine apart and I said hell no, I will figure it out myself. Thanks to a fellow mechanic friend we went back to basic's, took the spark plug out and the engine turned over no problem. Then we popped the valve cover off and the issue was right in front of us. The mechanism was stuck out in the open position which doesnt allow the engine to have a metered air leak to turn over. The ecu detects the hard crank and kills the power to the starter. To get the mechanism working properly, i just sprayed the spring area with wd40 until it was moving properly. Been problem free since.

Thats karma coming back to get me as I was a big honda hater for years. This was my first honda ever and karma got me🤣🤦🏻‍♂️.

Picked one up this week and just got done going through it before riding. If you dont take it apart and grease everything you are playing with fire. The swing arm bolt already had rust on it. The lineage itself was greased except for the thrust bearings. All of the pivot bolts were bone dry, rear axle included. I removed the backfire screen and then took out a screen in the exhaust like my kx450 had. The current Gen kx450 shock spring is one rate stiffer than the crf and it fits, as fyi.

I think the KTMs will be announced with the next week or so from what i heard. I Know its a new frame and some pretty big updates and the rumor is some form of Electric valving in the suspension.

For the KX450, what is scheduled for the Nov 23rd? Is this the media ride day or are they releasing a SR edition on the 23rd?

That makes a lot of sense, things like that get a bit louder when thousands of people get a new bike, haven’t seen any other people with issues.

Got stuck, then tried to bump start without success

And then re-tried and started successfully with the e-starter... 3-4 times

The bikes are stuck on the compression stroke. Good chance can put in gear, bump past TDC rolling it back and forth, then bump the starter button and some rpm will get the decompressor to unstuck due to centrifugal force. Thats what id probably do if I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. Had a husky te510 that the decompressor didn't work on. It was very confusing for people when they would watch me just standing on the kicker Softly and then waiting waiting waiting for it to bleed down LOL still easier to start than the wxc 360.  Wild that each new reveal crf450 engine has had a decompressor issue for awhile now. Guess ill sit 27 out now on a new Honda. Bummer. Im sure someone will have a valve cover off soon and know what the deal is

After reading about a couple people having this issue and Honda's history with decompression systems on the CRF450, I believe that you're correct. I think the weight of the decompression arm is "off" and causing some of the bikes to get hung in the compression stroke when shut off abruptly. Then the start system isn't strong enough to get it past TDC. I bet if you roll the bike back and forth in a high gear to get the cam rotated around this will fix the problem. Good observation. It's odd that not all of the bikes are doing it, but it could be a bad batch of decompression arms causing the problem on some of the bikes. We'll find out soon enough...

Hondas have always been very reliable and I believe they still are. They're not perfect by no means and I'm sure they'll get it figured out. Historically, Honda and Yamaha have been the best built bikes in the market, but it doesn't mean they're perfect. Yamaha YZ250F's had a recall several years back because the valve heads were breaking off. KTM's frames are notorious for breaking, Suzuki had to replace all the engines in the RMZ450 on one of their new year models, Kawasaki's latest model eats transmissions and so on. Unfortunately, stuff like this happens. The 2027 CRF450 is an awesome bike and has a lot of hype coming into 2027 so it has a lot of eyes on it. 😂. Honda had an issue with the decompression arm design when they came out with the new 2009 engine. It was a widespread issue, so they redesigned the compression arm and replaced them for free. I hope this is not the case just for the aggravation, but we'll find out soon enough. Until then, keep the idle high on the new 27.

The decompression pin was breaking on the 09. Honda replaced the pin.

Congrats man! Hope you like it. Set your sag at 100mm and I recommend 10 out of comp and Reb for forks and shock for a starting point.

They replaced the decompression arm, spring and pin on mine. It never broke, but I let them replace it anyway.
