I like how the title of the thread is “MXDN Profit - Pay The Riders” then you say that there were 105,000 at $90 a ticket which is revenue. Maybe mention total revenue and what the profit dollars and profit percentage were from that and the thread would be a little more valid.
Nobody knows what the actually profit level is, or if there is actually profit what is done with said profit. This entire thread is based on assumptions and nothing factual other than attendance and ticket cost.
MXGP riders can't just show up and race SMX finals.
I may be mistaken but can't they qualify out of the lcq?
Crazy when Webb said they had 40 people in their team there. Why??? What do they all do?

No, only top 30 in points plus anyone outside of top 30 that won a race.
Thank you for proving my point.
My commerce is business, not patriotism. If I were to slap an American flag on everything I sell, it would be for business, not patriotism.
Yet people get snared hook, line, and sinker that this event isn't about money, it's about patriotism.
I didn't single out infront. I'm talking about ALL of the costs and revenues, not just the promoters and sanctioning bodies.
If the numbers are close, let's say about 50K tickets at an average of $100 per ticket. That's $5M in gate revenue. That doesn't include sponsorship monies, probably not any of the VIP packages, etc., so that number is probably at least close. $5K per rider sanctioning fee equates to about $500K, so that means that just ticket sales would equate to a gross revenue of about $4.5M.
Think about how much money $4.5M is, and that doesn't even factor in any shares of concessions, fees for vendor displays, etc.
It's impossible to say that this race isn't about money, with national pride used as a marketing tool and leverage to try to make it so that the top riders can barely say no to it.
There are a couple of different concepts that get mixed up in these threads. I do think the promoter should subsidize reasonable travel costs for member federations. As someone else mentioned they have something like 125 member federations so they will have to limit it somehow - maybe top 30 countries from the previous year? This could encourage teams not to skip a year or they don't get their expenses paid the next year. Again the travel costs should be reasonable - freight, travel, lodging and per diem for a set number of team members. If a team wants to go crazy and bring a huge team that's fine but not covered by the promoter.
As for the riders, I don't think the promoter should have to pay them show-up money. Riders should be able to negotiate MXdN pay and/or bonuses into their sponsor contracts. Husky, FLY, Monster, RMATV, etc. got a lot of exposure from Cooper Webb's team selection, pre-MXdN, qualifying, raceday, and post-MXdN videos and content. Sponsors benefit from their athletes' participation but as far as I know don't supplement their pay, mainly because they're not asked to in their contracts.
"...but as for prize money, bonuses and all that i dont see how its an argument. Nobody is being asked to ride for free if they are already being paid by someone."
If it isn't a contracted race that is factored into their salary, then they are being asked to race for free. There's a reason that a manufacturer can't suddenly require their factory workers to work a 6th day of the week with no extra compensation. The workers are already being pad, but that doesn't mean that the employer can suddenly demand more work for no extra pay.
Definitely some fluff but international events take a lot of planning and bodies. You have 3 riders, at least 1 mechanic per bike, probably 5 "team managers", 10ish people helping with logistics/lodging/transportation etc. It adds up quickly.
Many of us do understand that. We also recognize that NONE of it is profit for the people risking their lives to earn it for whomever it does profit... It's a peculiar situation. On one side, love of country and a sacrifice to represent it. On the other, love of money and a willingness to exploit an entire industry for it.
Why should they pay anything when the crowds continue to increase and everyone from the industry shows up?
Stop pretending this is just some thought that popped into your head.
It’s an attempt to smoke screen for Deegandashian refusing to attend. A multimillionaire showing off on Tik-Tok videos his 8 million dollar compound, $500,000 watches, and million dollar cars.
The Deegandashian’s refuse to attend to hurt the MX establishment that shunned Daddy Deegandashian. It’s a revenge tactic. Nobody wanted to support the gang tats, gang hand signals, foul mouth, tramp stamp having 90 pound fake tough guy. The industry didn’t see that as helping to sell bikes, gear, etc. They were right.
Now they are out for revenge. Monster Energy support and an army of paid for social media supporters are the weapons now.
No other country dealt with this.
Ignore the punks
There are legit teams that miss every year due to funding, like New Zealand this year. We didn't see Gajser at one of the US MXdN's because Slovenia couldn't attend.
You're right though the crowd still showed up to Ernee to see their MXGP regulars compete.
Go away the adults are talking
Hint: Deegandashian didn’t ask for the teams/manufacturers/countries to get travel money for expenses.
They don’t care
They demanded $100,000 start money for themselves. Basically pay them to attend. Not Hymas, JuJu, Kitchen, Webb, Prado, Herlings, Coenens, Everts, Febrve, etc, etc. Just themselves like they are already the Gods of the sport..amazing
Stop acting like this has anything to do with the races finances
Exposure... In the music / band business, that word means free to the promoter / venue. Some bands do charitable events willingly, but the profit goes to a charity that doesn't read as Luongo...
Such is life in a one bar town...
For those who didn't read the previous page:
There were 30k paying spectators, the event costs 3.8 M€ to the organizing motoclub. The motoclub sets the tickets prices to cover their expenses.
By your own calculation (overestimating the number of spectators), they might get 4.5 M of revenue. That would translate into 700k profit.
I very much doubt they got so much profit but anyways, let's say the organizer were not to invest any profit back into the club, track or facilities, then they could give 7k to each rider. That's it. Not even close to what some US teams say they would "need" to attend. Luckily other US teams stepped up. (Btw, I haven't heard anything about how Canada or Mexico go about it, anybody in the know?)
If you've never been near a french motoclub, I can guarantee they're not in it for the money. The president of the motoclub, like the vast majority of the staff, is a volunteer, he does not get any money for all his trouble. Money is not his motivation nor that of his incredible team of 1300 volunteers (for the weekend only), which is one of the reasons why the event and the crowd at Ernée are so great 👍
Pit Row
I don’t care if the promoters profit ten billion dollars, it’s not their job to pay ransoms to teams and riders to come race the most prestigious motocross race in the world. They get one opportunity a year to lay it all on the line for their country. Suck it up
Seems pretty low on the paid attendance. Even if you look at the low end, the 'average' per day would have been about 35K, and maybe 5% of those were 'comp' tickets? So let's figure a bit low and say 33K paid spectators. The ticket price was something like €170, which is a little bit over $190 US. 33K x $190 = a little over $6.2M. Subtract the $500K for the infront fee, and you're looking at over $5.5M from ticket sales along.
Perhaps infront is charging a lot more than just $500K, I don't know. Personally, I think that they are/do, but that's just a hunch built up on years of seeing Luongo do nothing that doesn't put a LOT more money in his pocket. $5.5M is a heck of a lot of money, especially if the 1300 people needed to run the event are all volunteer.
I'm not ripping on the promoters. I think that they should be able to charge what they can get. My point is that no rider should be shamed into riding the event for free by using some false 'patriotism' premise. Racing is their job, and if you are going to ask them to race for free then everyone else involved with the event in any way should also be doing it 'for free' as well.
Canada has a fundraising booth at all our nationals, auctions off items, sells different sponsor packages, and sells merchandise.
Is it just because it’s related to Deegan that everyone doesn’t want these guys to get paid? Sure seems that way.
Idc who pays them and I also personally don’t care about the other countries. USA team riders should get paid. It shouldn’t just be cost on their teams to get there rider to go ride for free. Idc how much, it could be $20k then a bonus if they podium. I just don’t think it should be nothing. They’re taking a big risk. We all saw how bad some of those crashes were.
This isn’t war lmao. You guys gaslighting the riders into going to take that risk to be a patriot for their country is wild. This is a job straight up. You guys also are saying “it’s business” to back the promotors for making money and the laborers get nothing?
mxgp-tv wasn’t offering the live stream for free too were they?
So again, if they put on an extra GP or SMX would that count as a contracted race? What races are in a riders contract as I’ve never seen any specific races in there only series.
This isn’t overtime, and there’s more evidence of people doing this race under my earlier mentioned terms than not. This isn’t a 6th day, it’s just another week at the office
Seems like the clever way to do this. Who took care of that, was it your federation (CMA)?
It really is the best race and has always been a great concept.
It's also not reasonable for 100% of the financial upside to go to promoters any longer.
At minimum there should be a significant reward (purse, stipends, TV revenue, hosting rights?) to the national associations so that their MXoN efforts are sustainable.
I agree some involvement from In Front would be great, but if their business is working and fans/teams show up, they don't need to pay for them to show up.
The broadcasting rights are worth way less then fans think. In Belgium we've a group of wealthy people who buy the broadcasting rights and donate them for free to a sports network...
If it is only Series races that are in the contracts, then the MXoN wouldn't be a contracted race, they wouldn't (likely) be paid to race it, and it would be exactly like making your hourly employees work a 6th day for free.
If it is contracted in that the racers are required to race the event if chosen, then it becomes a situation where they are being paid for it be whatever salary they agreed to accept in the contract.
Think of it this way, could the team decide that their already contracted riders must race 4 standalone, regional 'fair races' after the SMX series is done if it isn't an event listed in the agreed upon contract? Of course not.
All that money that Star spends... He would have gone if he wanted to. He simply didn't want to go. POS
Someone gets it.
