Super sad to hear. I remember people making fun of the carbon monoxide warnings that were being blasted on repeat last year but thought “if it saves someone it’s worth the annoyance”. Does anyone know if those same messages were being broadcast throughout the camping areas in France?
Everyone needs to have battery carbon monoxide detectors. They aren’t very expensive. 😔
They should not have small, enclosed garages in the parking area.
This is a problem we need to take more seriously. The same thing happened to a family at a motocross track in Kansas a couple years ago.

Happens seemingly once a year at many ski areas as well. Carbon monoxide detectors are cheap and save lives
That happens at GNCC also. Been a couple fires too where a motorhome got real crispy real quick.
At the our last hare scramble the wind changed and I could smell the generator exhaust in our RV. I shut it off but my wife started it back up when I was out riding. I came back to the CO detector screaming and my wife asking why the smoke alarm was going off 😑...
I've brought it up many times with her, I lost my best man to CO poisoning. She still acted completely oblivious.
That’s scary stuff. I can imagine being in the same situation and explaining why to leave the generator off and it turning into an argument.
Sorry for your loss.
Very sad to hear. Years ago we decided to go to Daytona sx last minute but couldn't find a hotel so we drove close and pulled into a rest stop to sleep a few hours. When we parked there was no semi trucks around us but woke up surrounded by them and the exhaust was so strong. We all started throwing up and all day at the track we were all really sick. Then our seats were above a vendor who's exhaust was blowing at us and we were all struggling and we had to leave early. We ended up getting a room on the way home and took turns throwing up and took days to recover. Scarry stuff.
Sad news and best wishes to anyone close to them.
I’m ordering a few co monitors right now, easy thing to avoid but just as easy to forget to have in the camper.
Have 3 kids 2 dogs my wife & I in a 28 foot trailer has me absolutely devastated thinking about this.
Folks, CO detector gets a new battery EVERY season & a handheld CO detector at the front & back of your rigs.
It’s $50 and you can save your entire family from meeting a very quiet but abrupt end.
Related, but not quite the same. Was staying in a friends new toy hauler / camper and there was a pretty overpowering smell that began to work it way through and around the perimeter of the camp. At first we all assumed something wasn't venting right with the plumbing, (smelled like sulfer/sewage) but they later came to find out it was actually coming from the batteries that got too hot and were smoking... Fortunately they didnt catch fire, but its easy to think about all the bad things that could've happened.
I guess if anyone smells something similar at an event, you'll know to tell them what to check.
We lost a rider a few years ago at VMXDN at Farleigh Castle, England. He was sleeping in his tent when a nearby generator took his life with carbon monoxide poisoning. Threw a dampner over the whole event and my sincere condolences to family and friends of the two guys who died at Ernee.
Please be careful what CO monitors you buy, the cheaper ones do next to nothing, the threshold is set quite high, and the time frame to go off is stupidly long.
By which time its already too late.
Which? investigation prompts 100s of unsafe CO alarms to be removed from sale: do you have one? - Which?
I remember a father and son lost their lives at Gatorback many years ago. They had a propane heater in a van.
There was no broadcast, security, first aid, or common sense to speak of. Think mad Max on speed and you're getting close. Probably a hundred or more homemade pit bikes, cars, and assorted contraptions ripping around at mach whatever-the-fuck-they-felt-like, fires, etc.
We were three grown men and noped out after a couple hours.
