I think we may all be witnessing a new position for for the riders to aspire to. The dreaded “Lapper” with sponsors and everything. Their mission ‘To prevent certain riders from ascending to the lead”

Unfortunately, I could see rival teams paying for this type of rogue participation.

If they could have 3 more Vince Friese's, they would.

I've always been amazed at how Vince seemingly has gotten a ride each year after having such a crappy reputation among other riders on the track...probably even worse than Deegan. I guess your reasoning makes sense, in a twisted way. He brings the chaos and that is a draw for some ticket buyers.

In a weird way, maybe Vince being Vince will be enough to convince the SMX organizers that the "playoff's" should really only be something the top of each class are able to qualify for and compete in. Eliminating these guys from contention doesn't seem like there's much downside outside of them losing out on the extra money. Only the factory teams are getting paid to be there, so eliminating the satellite and privateer teams from having to show up would be more of a benefit than a negative IMO.

No one's watching the leaderboard and giving much thought to the battles for 15th at any time, save for the scenario where a title guy crashes and has to work back through the pack.

I’m amazed he gets enough support to be a “professional”, and make a living racing. His sponsors never seem to get a mention (No such thing as bad promotion). I have no idea who his sponsors are. I think his bike is green - Kawasaki?
Nothing to do with the behaviour mentioned here - just an observation about being a “pro” for so many years, with the results and coverage he supplies.

I could understand the behaviour and sponsorship success if the commentators were yelling “Vince has stuck that Skypig Racing Kawasaki where the sun don’t shine - he’ll probably be leaving that Bell helmet on in the pits for a while after this race!”

I'm just amazed anyone wants to touch him sponsor/team wise after he put a bounty on his own teammate that one year in WSX. In my mind that should get you blackballed from the sport. But moto is weird sometimes

What was VF's lowest national # during his career and what year did he have it?

Simply refuse to accept his race registrations.

Back in the 90's, during a state x-c mt bike race series, there was a team of riders (a mostly roadie race team) who would go ballistic into the singletrack, then deliberately slow up, clog the trail in order for their top rider to gap the rest of the bunch.

It actually led to a post race "incident" or two. And one out on course.

They weren't there to race, just pull the same crap over and over.

Finally, after much bitching in the rider's meetings, the promoter just refused the entry of the offending riders.

Problem solved.

What makes freezies story even funnier is he has one of the longest careers of any pro. He’s been hated the entire time, never changes, and keeps showing up.

And setting everything on fire. Any other rider like him, fizzles out after what 4-7 years? Here he is for like 20 years…
