They currently market these tracks as hybrid, but there really isn't anything hybrid about them. They're supercross tracks in different stadiums. If they wanted a truly hybrid track it would have to be outdoors. Personally, I would love to see them hold an outdoor round that has an sx flare in parts of the track. They could tighten up sections of the track, slow id down, throw in a rhythm section, whoops, an sx triple, and leave the rest of the track as outdoors. This would make for some interesting setups.
The SMX round have been marketed as rider friendly due to the larger purses (which is great). It would be really swell if they could also market is giving back to the sport by holding these at local tracks that aren't on the national scene. It would allow local tracks, with the room and infrastructure, to develop further and infuse them with much needed cash to stay afloat, and bring the sport to parts of the country that don't normally see races held on a national stage. Any reason this can't be/won't be done?
When I think of SX, I think of domed roof NFL stadiums at night.
What we have now is closer to state fair races. Bench seat viewing, open top, mid-day so you're guaranteed either a dust bowl or a mudder. I wish I were exaggerating but I'm not.

Of the top I’d say half or more of SX races are in open air stadiums so what you think is only half accurate.
This weeks track they built a SX track with 3 sand sections. Whooop-Dee-doo basil.
Also why can Washougal have a whoop section but SMX can’t?
I thought the race at chicagoland 3 years ago was a pretty decent hybrid track with longer moto type lanes and sweeping outdoor corner's and expected to see more tracks like this the following season's, but we get the dragstrip/supercross non-hybrid instead.

The track the MXGP folks just raced in China, was a perfect example of what a hybrid track would look like, it was awesome.
They should let the top riders in Supercross, Motocross and MXGP race and then it would be interesting.
SMX is now supercross without whoops.
What we were told, from the original press release in August 2022:

Daytona is more SMX than any SMX round we've seen in the entire four-year history.

Agreed. This year's SMX tracks are really a big let down. Shame on Feld. This Thunder Ridge Finale track looks like it's gonna be SMX style, we shall see.
SMX tracks, at a bare minimum, should consist of tracks similar to:
-Daytona, Chicago or Atlanta speedway tracks.
-Vegas Monster Cup or LA Coliseum tracks that go up and outside of a stadium.
-Charlotte or Vegas Dragstrip tracks.
Feld can do much better than even just those, but it ain't that damn hard. Pick 3 tracks that at least meet that criteria and you've automatically done better than these SX tracks they built for Columbus and Carson. I attended SMX the past 2 years. I am not attending this year, because they just look like crappy SX tracks at crappy venues.
I love how the entirety of Feld's advertising (and really I should say JT and Weege as they are the channel of communication) has been how great these tracks are going to be because they are in soccer stadiums and have EXTRA floor space.
and then, as if they are trying to make a joke and say "shove it to the fans", they decide to make the track such that it highlights how blatantly they are not using that extra space...

Waiting to see the bass pro shop track but they should have one moto race at a track off the schedule, one SX race at a venue off the rotation and then the final is a hybrid track at something like the last round this year. To make it playoffs like someone mentioned the first one is outdoors with a 40 rider gate, 2nd round is limited to 22 rider SX gate and then the final is the top ten or maybe 15 to give the playoff feel (plus see a race without as many lappers

Maybe it's a stupid idea, but I've been thinking about this since SMX started... Do 1 traditional indoor track (stadium), 1 true outdoor track (GH could accommodate...), and have the final at a speedway/dragstrip venue that is truly hybrid in design.
Or scrap it all.
This year is the first year that I agree. The other years there have been either features, obstacles or venues that were unique at pretty much every round. Even STL last year had that tunnel loop situation.
I don’t understand how it’s difficult to just throw in SOMETHING super unique if it’s gonna be a slightly(barely) different sx track. Put in a weird tiered table top thing or like back to back massive wall jumps with a weird obstacle before and after? Idk anything???? It’s not that hard to come up with unique features.

Exactly. I rewatch old SX on YouTube all the time and the track obstacles were soooo good! Track builders don’t even need to create ideas, just go rewatch old videos and use the creative stuff hah

Chicago was hands down the best track of this little series that started with an intriguing premise, but has quickly become nothing but a joke.

Would have been really cool if they had followed through on the original ideas. Having some of these races outdoors would help that idea come to fruition.
This looks a lot like some of the really early sx tracks. I don't watch much mxgp, but that doesn't look like anything i've ever seen them ride.
