My theory is the crash early in the season where he hurt his neck has pushed him over the edge with some type of Irreparable injury preventing him feeling comfortable any longer riding and pushing the limit. Congrats to him on his amazing career.
Worst news for us fans, but glad he is going out on his terms and healthy.
As a huge ET3 fan, this really sucks!!! But congrats Champ! Thanks for all the awesome moto memories!
This will certainly turn Thunder Ridge SMX Finale into a sellout.

Sad day as a fan but happy for Eli! He’s a legend. So many memorable races for Eli, but this one always stands out to me as pure beast mode.

I was such a dumbass I was at this race and didn't know who this kid was.
I can't believe I've watched his career come full circle. From a scrawny little kid to a beast to a family man. Sad and happy somehow.
Thank you, Eli, for some of the most amazing rides I’ve ever witnessed as a fan of the sport. Enjoy retirement doing whatever comes next with your family.
It was a good run, Eli. Thank you for giving us many years of beast mode!
I’ve been on the Eli bandwagon since I first saw him on a KTM 65 in Mini Warriors 3. Being older than all the pro’s now, the guys who came up after Eli’s generation don’t have the same impression on me as racers once did. It’s been a hell of a ride pulling for the #3 for so long. It’s a sad day, but I’m happy for him. Things will definitely be different when the gate drops at A1 in ‘27. Enjoy your well earned retirement beast mode. Thanks for the memories.
Makes you wonder seeing Jett with this ankle injury.
Is this similar to Tomac when he did both shoulders in 15.
Them 2015 rides are still insane to think about.
What a career, what a racer! He exploded on the scene by winning his first professional race and he kept the throttle pinned for 17 years. Tomac is a legend.
Such a legend, thanks for the champagne shower Hangtown 2019. I found the photo on racer x a few days later. It was such an epic day, the first moto’s where dry and Kenny won, I think Eli went third or fourth. Then the skies opened up and the crowd scattered, Tomac put down an ass whooping, at the time I was one of the chainsaw guys vital love so much, and I was given Eli the chainsaw every single lap in the uphill rollers, once the Moto is over we sprinted down to the podium and Eli already had his champagne bottle open and was a good 40 yards away just about to spray the fans when I come running down the hill firing up the chainsaw and start revving it, he hears the chainsaw, see’s it as me and my American flag onesie that he saw every lap of the Moto and runs a good 40 to 50 yards across an open field to where I met him at the fence and he proceeded to blast the entire bottle in my face while I held the chainsaw wide open above my head. Core memory!
Class and dignity the whole way. He let his riding do the talking, and his riding spoke volumes.
welp, if I wasn't' old before...I'm old now. Another career of a great that I've watched from start to finish. Sigh.
Tomac is a legend and I’m going to miss those beast mode rides coming through the pack like a bat out of hell. The sport won’t be the same without him. I hope he sticks around the sport in some fashion.
Headed for the hall of fame for sure!
Thanks for the memories Eli.
Pit Row
Congrats on an iconic career.
Pic I took of Rookie Eli Tomac chasing Decotis, Unadilla 2010.
What a bittersweet monday morning. Over the years Eli has pulled such a huge fan following, including me. So fortunate to have seen him at glen helen in 2015 smoke the entire field. Only thing I think that came close to that was when Bubba was the fastest man on the planet. Damn Im going to miss beast mode.
What a career! Legend.
Salute to you, Eli Tomac! Hell of a career.
Damn, an end of an era for sure. What a fuckin’ legend!
End of an era. Absolutley grateful to have seen so many great races in person over the years and meeting Eli a few times. Legendary career he has had himself and man, moto just isn’t going to be the same without him. Happy he gets to spend more time with his family now. Cheers to Eli.
Enjoy retirement, Legend!
An absolutely excellent racer. Motocross has been lucky to have him.
Wow!! Happy for him for sure. But man I’m sad!
I wish him the best with his family. Hopefully one day he’ll come back and do something with our sport!
Watching all the reports pop up this felt different.
For me, I know why. I came into motocross in 2009, Stewart and Reed battles were hot, Villopoto and Dungey were already on the rise.
But I remeber Tomacs first race, this is the first Legend I’ve watched all the way through. Roczen will be the second.
Thanks for the awesome memories champ ET3
Motocross royalty... soooo many legendary rides!!! Mount Rushmore rider!!! Hope enjoys a well earned retirement...!!
