Okay, honestly. I am no fan of Star or Deegan. But name me one other pro racing series where teams and competitors do ANY event for free? Sorry, racing is a business and big money is being made at the Des Nations. The FIM and Infront can afford to share with the teams and riders taking the risks and putting on the show.

Partly true, but the main issue with most people is the guy who wraps himself up in the US flag when it suits, but goes AWOL every year when it comes to backing it up on the World Stage. He could cover Star's cost of getting his bike out there for less than he spends on a watch, but he doesn't want to go - that's all it is.

Exactly. Its honestly fine if he doesnt want to go, he just never comes out and says that.. Its always some new manufactured story every year about how he was really gonna super for real go this time, but then his dog ate his ecu right at the last second.

1. Just come out and say that you dont want to go. Imagine that.. you can literally just tell the truth about whats going on instead of making up an elaborate new lie every single year and jerking the fans along until the last second b4 pulling out.

2. Stop with the captain America thing which is really only being used to try to drive a wedge between the American fans and foreign riders when you cant even be bothered to represent the country 1 single time.

Thats it, thats not so hard. If he does those 2 things then it wouldnt be that big a deal. Instead every year its some whole new elaborate ruse where everyone gets dicked along for months while he pretends hes gonna go so he can hear everyone talk about how great itd be with him on the team and then at the last second pulls out the rug.

Dude.. just say youre not going because you dont feel like it and keep it moving. Why every year is it always some new bullshit around des nations with this guy.

I wonder how much this decision was crystallised when it became clear the US probably wasn’t going to field a competitive team?  It was pretty obvious a few years ago that Star wasn’t going to send US riders if they didn’t think they could win.

I love how people try to play down the importance of the mxdn. It’s always worse when it’s in Europe and suddenly becomes more important when it’s in the US. It’s the USA’s chance to pitch their best riders against the best of the rest, it’s not insignificant.

And let’s me clear. If money were an issue there are plenty of people that would step up and pay the bill. Probably forum members.

Why isn’t a dollar a ticket at every smx event allocated to the nations?

Why should I pay even more money for des nations?? I buy at least 2 bikes a year (3 so far this yr).. at least 2 sets of riding gear... at least a couple helmets... plenty of engine oil and chain lube... sprockets and chains and tires... etcccc... and now you want me to pay more so our millionaire riders can go to des nations????? Come on man.... 😆

Outdoor season ends August 29.

SMX 12, 19 and 26th then turn around and head to Europe the following week for Oct 7 MXON.

Yeah, fuck that and fuck SMX.

lol, it used to be there was too large of a break between the end of the season and MXoN for the riders to be in race shape. Now it’s too close?? Come on man!

Exactly this!

Should the promoter share the wealth? Yep.

Should teams have to spend tens of thousands to go when the event makes plenty of money? Nope....

But Deegan himself never says any of that. He wants to be put in the same category as webb and zacho and RJ and others who have all happily lost money to participate in the race, but he's not willing to do that.

Fair enough, just stop lying about it. He wants everyone to believe he's all in and just a victim of circumstance and that is clearly not true.

If you feel strongly enough about the financial setup that you're willing to skip it, several times, then speak up and be the voice of change and stop with the patriotism bullshit. People might disagree with you but at least that's a respectable stance.

Once again, the big brain self promotion Deegan Inc just can't bring themselves to do simple things like tell the truth and instead treats us all like we're morons. Some of you are way too willing to eat the bullshit he's feeding you and it's gross. Nobody is telling anyone how they should spend their money, is anti capitalism, or any of the other bullshit, they're just calling out a liar for lying. If you can't do that, you might just be a bed bug.....

Deegan doesn't want the smoke-if you don't want the answer don't ask the question. Many have legitimate opinions on this race (Infront should pay, AMA should cover costs, too many races, etc, etc) but the bottom line here is Star is no doubt taking the heat for Deegs, especially with them going across the pond for WSX around the same time. It's too bad the Deegan camp doesn't see a vision for taking the risk, going out there and racing, and even picking up the tab to do it-the ROI on this move would be more than paid back in every way. Racers race and if he went out there and finished in the top 5 his stock goes up 100%. What bothers me is the inference he is going to when we can be pretty sure he never had any real intentions of going, year after year. Money comes and goes (and he is fortunate to have plenty of it-all earned-good for him), racing this event goes way beyond that.

I'm not trying to compare the two Don. WSX in no way compares to MXON in that it is much more valuable to the riders other than the money made through WSX-which is great. If Deegs goes, represents, and challenges for top 5 finishes, his stock goes up like crazy and he also learns a lot at the same time which is what he has been preaching this whole summer.

I want to buy a beer for the general contractor that got 10 million out of them for a blacked out barndominium in rural Georgia. Legend.

That's what I said back in 1981 when I heard Johnny O was going to race a 250 and a 500 despite never having raced either prior to that, yet he performed well enough on both.

In front needs to give to teams end of story. Des Nations is MX Sports Loretta's

😅😅😅

I post stats all year long, but it is nothing compare to that one indeed, great job Rotaholic.👏👏👏

Honestly I put our reaction, or at least mine, making fun of Deegan, as a game. He is playing that game with the other competitors, with and for the fans, of being cocky. And that is taking the risk of coming down on him when things don't go his way.

No one on this forum is as good as him or even half of his level and dedication, that's for sure. But you offer yourself to the people like he does, you have to be ready to take the other side of the blade I guess.

So maybe Yamaha is not paid directly to participate in MXON, but MXON does way more to advance the Yamaha brand than WSX ever will.  I would bet my coach class tickets to France in late September that a strong showing from Deegan at Nations sells way more Yamahas then him doing WSX.  Isn't that why Yamaha is in business and has a marketing budget, to sell bikes?

I get Yamaha is getting reimbursed for WSX, etc. but no way I believe they don't have the marketing budget to ship Deegans bike and crew over a week early.  There would be a solid ROI on that $25K or $50K investment IMO.  Of course, Yamaha knows this, which makes it obvious that they are just running cover for Deegan, again....

The team exists to win the AMA supercross and motocross championships. SMX? I haven't seen the Lawrence contracts nor have you. I'm sure at contract time either Hunter or Jett could have decided they would prefer to ride the MXDN rather than the 3 SMX races. When they negotiated their contracts they knew what races they would be running. They chose to ride SMX rather than SMX and MXDN or just MXDN. I don't believe anyone on this board is nieve enough to not understand why they made the choice they did. That's the choice I would have made as well. How about the Lawrence's just admit that SMX is more important to them than MXDN instead of pretending like the schedule is too grueling and they need a break and there are no other options. Don't race SMX problem solved. This whole thing reminds me of something Deegan would pull.

You seem to be under informed about the relationship of AMA Pro Racing and the SMX series. They are one and the same.

Not really. They award a supercross champion and a motocross champion with separate titles. They also award an SMX title. Riders during contract time can negotiate what races they will compete in. Especially Jett and Hunter who are such a big draw, they can almost write their own contract. You don't seem to be fully up to speed on how sports contracts work.

“Not really?” Sure, they’re separate titles, but they share a common points scheme that seeds them into the SMX series. It’s all related and the biggest payoff of all happens there.

I'm a bit surprised by this especially from Deegan, I would have really thought they would go at all costs so they can get more experience under the 450 belt.

A bit of a shame.

The press release seems like some kind of chess move or message or power play or something. When Kawi stopped supporting the MXdN there was no big announcement. Who is Star Racing's target audience for this press release?

On a side note, for some reason all of this reminds me of when Radley confronts Monk in front of the Dagger House and says "I want money for my ramp!". Except it's Deegan and Bobby confronting the AMA.

It’s so funny when people try to use this as a “gotcha”.

The Lawrences won the Chamberlain trophy for their country back-to-back and came out almost a year in advance saying “we’ve been burning the wick from both ends and need to have a real off-season this year.” Just 3 days ago Deegan said “it’s looking pretty good” in reference to racing the MXoN for Team USA when asked by Lewis only for the team to cover his ass again today and say “we’re not going”. Where’s Haiden’s comment on this?

Gee, I wonder why the fans view these two completely different situations differently?

Star Racing is a subcontractor to Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, they are paid out of their advertising budget, which is used to advertise in the US, if Yamaha Japan told them to, they would fund it.

I dont get it, if you're really in it for the sport and the fans, then you want to go to mxon and rep your country. Especially if you claim to be the best!

Anything else is an excuse, and you're just in it for the money.

The backup bike is necessary for an event of this magnitude. Teams at this level don’t do things halfway.
