Yeah I completely disagree with this. Expanding on my prior post, coming from a 250F, as soon as I rode a friend's '23 gen YZ450F, I couldn't believe how easy it lays into turns and doesn't even feel like a 450, as far as chassis feel. It actually corners better than the prior gen Yamaha 250F, as far as front end response and how the bike does exactly what you want, in a rutted corner. That aspect alone is what got me wanting one and now I have the '26, which is a little different but still has that same general characteristic. So again, I hate comparing showroom or average ppl's bikes to a factory bike, but your theory on the YZs wanting to stand up in corners, I don't think is an inherent trait of those bikes, in fact I think it's actually the opposite.

If anything I think Haiden's aggressive style is exactly they type of rider that fits the Yamaha. I don't think you can just throw him on an HRC bike and it's going to look super calm, like how the Lawrences look. Keefer explained a couple years ago how it's so much easier to get the Hondas to work for those guys because they are so efficient and float around the track. HD is a different rider and it's never going to look as settled as it would with someone who riders like Jett. And to be fair, there are several times this summer where the Honda's have kicked around or done something weird (and how many crashes.) But since Reed didn't make an IG post about that or because the Lawrence's are winning, it doesn't get brought up. Deegan has made very few mistakes and hasn't hardly crashed at all. I think he will mesh with the bike eventually, and his style will evolve. But it's a stretch to point to the bike as holding him back or being an actual problem area, imo.

Then there is raw speed.

Then there is the bike setup.

Probably a more difficult situation than a simple suspension change can fix and TBH, its just time on the bike at this point.

I've been wondering whether Deegan's physical stature (not fitness) is optimum for a 450.  Seems like aside from RC, most of the riders who have had sustained success on 450s have a taller, lanky stature that gives them more leverage to throw the bike around and a better ability to soak up humps, bumps and terrain changes.  Jett and Hunter certainly fall into this category, but others do too -- Tomac, Gasjer, Herlings, Dungey, etc.  I supposed a factory team can make bike adjustments to address this, but it could be that this is just an additional hurdle for #38.

hmmm.......Stumpy Deegan?

His fitness was supposed to be his biggest strength (no pun intended) going into the season

Average lap time showed he’s almost 2 seconds off per lap though?

He can't maintain the intensity he shows in the first couple of laps.

He has pace of finishing 3rd or 4th. At no time this season has he shown he can move to the front and remain there

The only people I see improving are Marchbanks, but even GM is still well behind 38.. I could see Marchbanks evolving and getting up to consistent 3rd-5th finishes.. Deegan's handlers are afraid to say what needs to be said.

3rd place might be tougher to obtain if Lucas Coenen lines up as well

He isn't going to find a set up that let's him ride a 450 like he rode a 250. Deegan is young enough and talented enough that he can adapt and improve his riding style, and he should focus on that. I hear Carmichael saying that a wild riding style worked for him so Deegan could make it work. I don't buy it. Name a single other champion that rode like Carmichael. For the big bikes, smooth is fast.

RC is... Carmichael... He could win holding on with one hand with the back end swapping side to side, and he could win by flowing around the track. He was unique.

RV steered with the rear but had amazing technique. He rarely looked out of control or loose.

Eli has a bulldog style but he is incredibly efficient.

Hunter passed him within 4 corners and immediately opened a gap lol. Your boy doesn’t have the pace or speed and deep down you know it’s.

What he said is factually correct, rolling on throttle makes any bike want to stand up from the increased gyroscopic effects. A 450 will have a larger gyroscope due to larger moving mass. You can see the bike want to stand on deegs when he hammers the throttle. Settings and technique should fix the issue with some time.

There may be some fact in that, as a general statement. But not every 450 feels the same. And he also said the Yamaha may feel the worst at that because of the angle of the cylinder, and I disagree. I'm just saying that to me, it's just a stretch to peg that bike as unsettled or having that typical 450 feel where it is clunky side to side or want to stand up in turns. It's probably the best in that aspect, out of any 450 that I've ridden. So I am just pointing out that I don't see an inherent flaw in the bike or the design of a Yamaha specifically, from my experience.

I'm saying "to.you" is invalid. Physics don't care about what you felt on your buddy's 2023 450.

100%

Physics doesn't care about your feelings.

All his career so far HD has managed to go fast by trying to look like he is going fast.   You cant do that on a 450.  All the fastest 450 guys in the world, look like they are on a sunday ride to church, and sound like they are trying to do it while not waking the neighbours.

Roczen, Lawrences,Herlings, Prado, all look slower than the guys chasing them .... Gajser this year seems to be revving the nuts out of the Yamaha compared to the Honda and looks worse for it.

They should drop the rev limiter 2000 RPM, and teach him how to ride ( and how the bike needs to be) to turn a lap time, on the money every lap, for 30+2.

'But thats how i ride' doesnt cut it in the big boy class.

I was curious so here are the numbers: he started to match their speed but could not reduce the lap times as much.

He knew on the 250 he had everyone covered , and he did, but now he hasnt.  Not fast enough, and not for long enough, and the harder he tries, the less time he will be fast for.  We are seeing that already.

Once you know you arent catching them, which 8 laps in he knows he isnt, its all over.   We he improve, no doubt, will it be enough, who knows.

But, if Coenen gets back to full fitness, and Jett gets his full mojo back, and Prado's turn round continues , he could quite easily not win a race for a long time, even if he improves.  I dont think that will happen, but i didnt think we would be 10 rounds in and he hadnt led a lap either.

Wow, losing 4-5 seconds per lap after the half-way mark.  That's how you end up -:30 by moto's end.

He puts down his best lap and it seems to empty his tank. I can’t stand the kid but is he overtraining or what.

I think Haiden has the fitness. I think it’s his setup that’s making him tired quicker cause he’s having to burn too much energy at the start of races. Don’t get me wrong Hunta & Jett are on another level currently when comes to speed. Haiden just needs better set up and as we know he’s working on race craft too.i think once they figure that out. Look out!  Just my take

But him and duffe said his setup was dialed before pala? He use to make jokes about the 250 class who said they still needed to work on the bike, Haiden would say stop complaining and just ride. Funny how that came back around

Since the start of the season the Honda bikes have looked buttery smooth in all the track conditions, deegans bike looks like the back tire is fighting to stay in contact with the ground. Last race i noti ed him riding the back wheel more then usual .

Put me on that Honda and it won't look buttery. Ill make it look like 1977 elsninor. Those boys would make any bike look smooth and effortless.

I disagree, Haiden's riding style needs Tomac level of fitness to maintain his speed, he doesn't have the Lawrence's efficient riding style.
