That hill is just brutal. James mentioned how far away he was from the bike. This view really gives it scale. DAMN!

I am kind of surprised how mangled his front end was, it was more of a high side than a high speed crash.   What an awful place to go down though, that was brutal to watch.  He seems like the type that gets after it with passion after something like this, hopefully he bounces back hard.

It's like the moto gods don't favor Hunter. Heartbreak at the final race of his SX 450 championship run, and now this. Literally he's come on so strong and finally got his first win in the SX 450 class and then just started clicking them off. Then the same in motocross this year as well. Only to have that possibly taken away. JT and Stewart discussed using the scoop tire on tracks like Unadilla, and how that could've played a part in his crash. Who knows?

But it sure does suck!

Did you listen to this with sound? You can hear the bike crunch when it hits the ground. It was a high side coming out of the corner and the fact that it was so steep increased the inertia of that bike substantially. This was a nasty crash that Hunter was honestly lucky to walk away from. He could have been easily impaled by one of those wooden stakes on the side of the track (always hated that they used stakes to hold banners etc.).

Must have hit just right. I’m with you I expected to see a little more than that with how bad his bike was twisted up.

I wish whoever took the video wasn’t a #38 fan. The series leader goes down and they clip the video after they get to yell #38 name and see him go by. I would have been turning the focus to Hunter and zooming in on him. At the very least continue recording to see him get back going.

I watched the video, his bike looked more mangled for the speed of the crash, that is all.  Usually if your bike looks like that, it is not from a high side exiting a corner, the hill obviously played a big part in that.  But if a bike is wadded that bad, it is usually from something a lot more high speed than that, it is why I said I was surprised.  I was also surprised to see him riding at the pace he was with his front end mangled and jumping what he was, it's next to impossible to do that without wadding it again.

Thanks for the updated look, shame to see Hunter go down as he was doing everything right.  Down 10 points, crazier things have happened.

I was wondering if he rung his bell. His tip over after remounting reminded me of Stewart Daytona 2011.

I feel gutted over this. I wanted to see him win this title so bad. Maybe Jett will get caught in the gate one of the next four races.

I’m just glad he ended up off to the side of the track and no-one landed on him.

Yep, good thing he was off the track. It looked had time to get back out and save some points, but that probably just took the wind out of his sails. 😏

Well, his bike was pretty twisted up.

Agree. Those stakes are extremely dangerous, they are at many tracks . Hard to believe nobody involved at the tracks speak up about it. One day a rider will get impaled, then maybe something will be done.

There is no video that does that section justice.

You can barely walk up it… can’t imagine trying to stand a bike up after a get off like that.

I didn't see that, I saw a guy on a steep hill with max heart rate pick his bike up, and the front wheel slid on the plastic on the steep hill.

They didn't grade or plow the track after the last races, just threw grass seed on it and let it grow in over the braking bumps and ruts.

That was how motocross was meant to be raced

From my recolletion the closest weve gotten was marvin at southwick. He came inches away in a high speed crash from being impaled when he flew off the track at high speed.

I’m pretty sure RJ got impaled on a stake a few years ago, hangtown is coming to mind

He is lucky he didn't  end up in the swamp. It's about 10 feet past the u-turn at the bottom.

To be fair their approach speed has nothing on today.

I rewatched the video. His front wheel was not on any plastic banner when he tipped over trying to ride away. Ping also suspects he rung his bell. Hope not, because I want him to be sharp for the next four motos.

I've only seen it once but I thought that it was due to his bars being so twisted and him thinking they were straight he had the front brake on but cause they weren't straight the front slid out..

Probably the worst place to crash in the worst way possible. A million-dollar crash?
