If you put him and his skills in a Time Machine now, then he would undoubtedly win. The skill level has elevated so much in recent years.

I know the older gen won’t like to hear that, but if you simply look at how they attacked jumps back in the day vs now. Plus corner entry speed etc, he wins easily.

But if Bailey, RJ etc were born in the same year as Carson brown, they would likely be much better than brown is now, if that makes sense. 
It’s not that Brown is better, the sport has just elevated soooo much

If you watch a video of Jerry Robin at LL on that ancient CR250, then watch an old video of Rick Johnson in that era, it looks like Jerry is much faster. 

But I think that is mostly due to the collective increase in the level of competition. Nobody was scrubbing every jump in 1985.

He can throw down a heater…I know he tried his hand at pro racing but wonder if he put in a full effort? Scoring points is no joke so obviously he has speed, just wonder how much effort he really put into racing? Good for him though making a living riding dirt bikes

Carson was racing multiple classes at AMA vintage motorcycle days in Ohio last weekend.  

One of his classes was the XR200 class which you can ride any year XR200. I figured he'd have a trick XR200 so I went over to his pits to take a look.  Nope, that 200 he was riding looked like something he bought at the event's swap meet as it looked and sounded bone stock and it was something like a 78 or 79 as it had two beat looking rear shocks rather than being a Pro- Linker. Also had the original pipe and boat anchor muffler too.  Props to him for racing a beater bike at the event. 

I'm not weighing in on the hypothetical who would win, but I sincerely doubt the bikes he's flogging in his videos have secretly super modified suspension. I think he's just really good at hopping on literally anything with 2 wheels and figuring out how to go really fast instantly. Pretty sure most of those bikes are roached to hell and barely holding together.

The one thing that never changes in comparing champions from eras is the mental aspect.  Guys like Bob Hannah, Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward, David Bailey and Johhny O'mara would mentally grind almost anyone into a pulp. Bob Hannah would look at Carson Brown and say are you ready for 35 minutes of fucking misery?  And then dish out exactly what he said because he did the work to back it up.  That's why they were champions then and they would be now.  

Is Carson going faster on those old bikes now then they did then?  Probably.  And that's mostly because riding styles and tracks change.  I'm not criticizing Carson because Bob Hannah or RJ would scare the shit out of me also.  Those guys were scared of nobody.
