Prices are way overdone esp on the lower end of the market. I'm waiting to get a new 327 later this year but wanted to pick up an extra something to have fun on at a vintage race or two.
Could not believe what I was seeing on marketplace today. Actual basketcases are listed at $1700 with shit like "will be a very expensive bike when fixed up"
Bikes with rusted frames, faded or missing plastic with "just needs new reeds" or "just needs carb adjusted" going for $1500
It's not always been this bad.. used to be able to get good deals. Probably doesn't help that I'm an hour from Atlanta.. I see better deals several states away from me and in the boonies. But by then it's a hassle for the drive there and back.
If anyone has a clean and a little older two stroke please hit me up..
Why I stopped buying used long ago, spend 3/4 a new bike fixing everything and still have an old bike.
I thought this thread would be about nothing selling... new ain't selling... and fb is littered w bikes that have been on months or over a year... most people are only buying when they have to.. and most people don't "have" to have an mc....
Its either a buyers market or a sellers market...

Used bikes are not selling….I have had 2 historically good selling used bikes for sale for months…300SX & 350SFX, nothing but clowns, dreamers and low ballers…forget about the trade offers….I don’t need to sell a bike to buy my new bikes but my garage is bursting at the seams😂…the market is flooded with used and new bikes…buyers market right now…. I also have a large quantity of low hr late 80”s-90”s bikes I want to sell but not in this environment….
Sell the 80's and 90's stuff on here. There are also a few export companies that buy up clean used bikes to ship over to Europe and Australia.
Would love to know what you're selling, as a lot of us don't have the same access to the market as you guys do in the US.
The vintage racing scene is getting big. Vintage sleds hv been big for yrs. I knew the vintage bike scene would catch up. I always wanted a 90-97 cr125 but they sold out fast. Quite a few on fb & some are like new or rebuilt bottom ends , etc. I like this 97 race it sat then my 04 on sun at vintage races. Cool vibes , cool GP style tracks, fun events.
Why is the market for used bikes so sh*tty right now?
Is 3500 to much for a nice 2003 CR250r? I don't really want to sell it, but isn't that like 2k in 2010 money?
Took me 3 months to finally sell my 2018.5 fc450 for $3400... Dealers here in vegas don't do consignment (which pissed me off) but anyway fuck selling in this market it took time and patience to finally find a non bullshitter.
I will be buying the kx327 later this year.
Very clean 03 ? I,d sell it for more than that . Mumford buys builds & sells 2-st,s. I think he got 7,500 for his stock engine 02 cr250. Mo. Vintage series mo,, ks. & iL. Hv a evo class cut off of 04. I can buy 2 very clean rebuilt 92 - 97 cr125,s for 2,500-3,200 each. And hv spare cases etc . A new kx327 setup + tax is what 11k & I know that is not going to last like 89-07 cr.
We cant get enough 110s, people are chomping at the bit for them.
We sell the hell out of everything really except maybe UTVs. 70 new units sold last month, on track to match this month as well.

Imo.... inflation.. gas is high... food is high... taxes are up... nearly everything is higher, and some segments like cars/trucks are way higher (price a used car lately?).. and many overspent during covid... look at the car/truck repo market rn..
Aside from a stupid chrome FMF pipe it needs nothing at all. It's my rider and not a museum piece but people ask me how much all the time.
People want 7k for a 23 tbi 2 stroke or 350.
Ill take my cash, buy a new one and make the 100$ payment.
When a new one is $12k after taxes and fees it makes that obscene asking price for a low hour used one more palpable
That’s what i was afraid of, i was just thinking about grabbing a 27 350SXF to replace my 25 just because who doesn’t want a new bike… but i loath selling here in vegas.
Just sold my 21 350 for 3k with cone and traxx. Talk about a bad investment
Pit Row
I was just given a 99 RM250 today. Its completely torn apart and in boxes but the price was right.
Ain't anything in this hobby an investment 😂
Everything is stupid expensive now. EVERYTHING........ Myself, as simple as I may be, do not see any sudden change headed our way for things to lighten up. Folks are hurting in a really bad way, and the toys they sell are gold to them..... because they have no choice. Shit is getting worse than I ever could have imagined being around over 5 decades. Try selling a restored 60's muscle car these days, or a virgin 50's classic...... The economy is a total shit hole.
The "Mecum Effect" is having serious fallout when used bikes are getting priced. Same as the "Kaplan Effect". It's all smoke and mirrors. Almost nothing over $3500 is selling regardless of condition and basket cases that are priced over a grand don't even deserve a call. All the sellers "know what they got"🙄
20-30 year old two strokes I just figure I'm going to have to do a complete engine rebuild on day one and figure that into the price. Then throw in all the chassis bearings, tires, and a suspension rebuild. I've been racing vintage bikes for 30 years, actually since they weren't vintage, and the horrors I've seen in the way people "maintain" their bikes could be made into a Halloween movie.
dear lord was it running?!?!
Damn! You made somebody VERY happy.
I’ve heard that parting a newish bike out isn’t such a bad idea anymore. I bought a used front brake assembly (master cylinder, line, caliper and hanger) from a 2025 KTM 250SXF for $200 a few months back. Seemed crazy cheap. But hearing some of these prices for used bikes it might make sense to part out.
I’d rather list parts on eBay and sell it a little at a time than deal with all the idiots trying to trade for a Evinrude outboard boat motor, broke down Camaro, or whatever else meth heads are trying to offer.
Dealer here in Minneapolis has 2026 KX 250 for $6000. 450's are 7000. Nuts. Why buy a used for more than half.
I do this with take off wreck repair parts. Still usable for somebody and aome of it brings good money.
I hate talking about the economy but early 07 it crashed. I was hauling chocolate etc in a tanker all inner ne cities to Chicago 20-38 hr days, then nothing. C19 blew it up for 2 yrs then another huge crash. Feb 18, 2022 , 78 loads 200 mi radius of Chicago. Jan 1.7 mil loads. 50k bankruptcies a week , no freight , wages dropped 40% . While everyone else was getting a raise. Now wages are back up I can get .85- 1.00 cpm. When I heal up back to 20+ hr days & saving money to buy cool older bikes. Then land to hv my own Vintage Festival of Madness.
You nailed it Sir. Fucking nailed it. Feels good knowing some solid common sense still floats around in here......
That's what I just sold my '01 CR250 for, but it took a while for the right buyer to come along, I could have traded it for an 89 XR 80 or a YZ 80 frame that some kid jammed a 125 engine into, but I decided to wait for the cash instead.
It had less than an hour on a new top end, brand new Fatty pipe with silencer & new tires.
The dollar is extremely weak buying anything right now. Literally everything is propped up, overpriced and nobody has extra money for anything.
Post a reply to: Can we talk about how s***** the used bike market is right now
