Our really good riders don't care about mx, that's the main difference. If mx paid as well as supercross, they'd all be way better at it. Listen to Webb talk about being checked out on the outdoors, they just don't care. A select few just want to win and are really good, but when you have guys riding around just trying to get top 5 or 10 to not look too bad that's all you need to know.
There is no American rider in the 250s that will do anything in 450 SX/MX mayve Ryder d that's it for now.
Its not just an MX issue.

There has never been a SX champion - let alone a multi-time SX champion - that has underperformed in MX as much as The Outdoor Warrior. Whether it is due to lack of ability or because he couldn't be arsed putting in the work, the fact remains he has massively underperformed.
I downvoted you. Webb never used to suck outdoors on a 250, I think he lost interest when he got on a 450.
But yeah, I can’t think of another premier class SX champion that didn’t also have a premier class Outdoor championship dating back to the early 80s.
Personally I don't think it has anything to do with weather, tracks, etc...we just haven't seen "that" type of gifted individiual in long time. Not taking anything away from current riders as they are amazing. I just think it has to do with an individual with that type of skill, mindset, etc. If you have it and the desire you can ride anywhere and be phenominal. Flame on...

He just isnt good on a 450 outdoors, yes today he doesnt care for outdoors.
The King himself wasn’t stellar outdoors.
In 2018 I travelled over to Lommel, the 1st day it was really rough, Maxine Renuax, Peta Petrov & Marshall Weltin were there, they were stupid fast. The next day, the track had been groomed flat, no GP guys turned up that day.
Besides the rocks, riding at Loket looked much more fun to me than most national tracks. Hard pack and dust won't kill you!
Sand tracks need to be rough! Everyone fast on a smooth sand track…..sadly…in the USA outdoor Mx is not a top priority….We desperately need 125 & 250 EMX series…give our younger guys a chance to mature while they move up the pro ranks ….many of our “Next big thing” riders get swallowed up and spit out before they can establish themselves…..
His point about the tracks is 100% valid. The regional at Millville last year was way gnarlier than the national last weekend. It looked like a freeway out there and the crew smoothed sections out every chance they got. The top 5 in MX2 could win in the USA right now and if it weren’t for the Hunter brothers, Coenen and Herlings would win here also.
Now that im old, if my track is wet and muddy, im not riding on it. Hate cleaning my bike after and I hate being out of control and all over the place. I like to have that smooothhhh flow.

All the tracks start out wet & muddy now….but most tracks don’t open if rain in the forecast….I can remember when we first started riding, we didn’t care about rain or mud, we just love to ride…..I”m old also…I don’t mind some mud but if its pouring rain out……I”m out😂….
Ryno's a whack job but at the core a lot of what he says is true.
Strangely in an interview last week, webb said his 2017 national run was ruined by him partying too much??? Never thought of him as a party boy...
Curious if the euro guys practice on tracks that mimic the tracks they race? Everytime i watch clips of the Americans practice tracks they are relatively smooth.
If it was muddy, I knew I was going to have a good time. I loved the slop.

That was more of a “Taos Garbage Hippy” look that he was sportin’, than Cowboy.
I think a lot of tracks don't open when it rains or is muddy for 2 reasons, no one will show up, and they don't want the pits torn up from vehicles on soggy days.
He's not on the mount Rushmore of outdoor moto sure... but one premier class title, and very nearly two when he tried a jump that wasn't physically possible and hurt himself.
Also far and away the best 250 rider in the world at des nations that same season. I do see your point though.
