I'm actually really surprised that we have gotten 14 motos into the National season and he hasn't won a moto.  I certainly didn't think that he'd have a season like Jett's rookie outdoors season, but I expected him to either run within a few seconds of the lead or crash his brains out trying to.

I think he's actually playing it smart by not trying to win every moto and riding over his comfort zone, but I am surprised by that tactic.  Before this outdoor season I didn't think he could/would mentally handle not winning for this long and I assumed he would have pulled the pin on the grenade going for broke.

I still expect him to win a moto or two this summer, but I'm really curious to see how he comes out in SX next year.  More mature and calculated or back to the win at all costs mode?

I expected him to have more for Hunter and his brother . When you watch the races though it's clear as day the Honda guys have a superior bike set up over everyone else on the track.

I feel like people just invent things for Deegan that is never was reality based on how things actually went.

He came out lack-luster for SMX-next, had a good but not world-on-fire rookie SX season, same for MX, but he was always stronger at MX at that point, and built into his career improving each year to his last year on the 250 being what people would consider dominate.

People also talk about his style, like he is reckless, but he really doesn't wreck much at all.

I mean to me, this is right in line with what he has always done.

I’m a deegan fan and he’s definitely trying to win lol. Now yea sure he probably eventually settles in once they’re double digits ahead, but there’s no lack of effort we’re seeing.

I’m stoked by his performance. I think any true moto fan can realize this is an excellent rookie showing. 40-4th bro, come on…. Straight handling prado, world champ, both motos and now over 20 pts on prado. Haters will spin it however going back to the stupid shirt that he didn’t even design. It’s ridiculous how the children on here can’t handle banter in racing.

Lawrence’s are just god mode man. I have no doubt he will get there though. He’s a straight up dog and I love watching him.

Not surprised he hasn't won a moto, I'm surprised he hasn't led even a lap. Not even one lap, cmon. There's always a time the rookie will get a start and lead for like 15- 20min, before finally getting passed cause he's all pumped up. He's got the misfortune of going up against a couple of complete breasts in the Lawrence's

In the 450 class for sure.  In the 250 class it's like there's a rag in the intake.

Too bad his antics, mouth and personality make it very difficult to like the kid. I’m VERY surprised he’s not a frequent crasher given how he rides. Kid has mad skills. I’d like to like him but it’s just not in the cards.  He could be a class act and America’s darling but half the fans of the sport can’t stomach his BS. He ought to go watch how Dungey handled himself.

I'm suprised that both Prado and Deegan haven't won yet honestly. I did expect the hunter brothers to be in their own battle for the championship, but I really thought we would get 1 or 2 weekends where either Prado or Deegan could win an overall and maybe look unbeatable. (definitely thought Prado would win more than just one overall and not zero). Now it looks like they would need to rely on both brothers having to crash out.

He has gotten no closer than round 1 and people are talking like it’s consistent progress

20-30 seconds behind whatever brother is leading every moto pretty infallibly.

Great rookie season if he didn’t make a shirt that said RIP to the defending champ and claim he was going to win.  He set that bar too high himself.  That’s on him for not meeting unrealistic standards.

Yes. The Lawrence bros are like a pair of titties aren’t they. One is just a touch more askew than the other. Can’t beat a great pair of titties.

I like Deegan riding the antic not so much. Yes I am a Jett and Hunter guy ... Deegan is handing WORLD Champion Prado his ass, and remember last year after Southwick Prado said if I had my KTM I would win. Rookie constantly beating a world champ is amazing and handing allot of 450 guys their ass, that is amazing..

Jett and Hunter are a whole next level unless they crash - again Deegan is having an awesome Rookie season.

I agree. What we have seen at Thunder Valley from him was what I thought he would look like all the time on the 450, going for wins more and riding on the edge. But he's really frikkin consistent. Two first turn crashes he couldn't do much about and the Thunder Valley crash, that's pretty much it. Going to be interesting to see where he'll stack up in SX and if he can close the gap next year. As long as he stays on the bike I think he'll only get better. If he can and we also get Lucas on top of that we fans are in for a good time.

Why are you surprised? Deegan is a great rider BUT you have two generational talents in Hunter and Jett who are both pushing each other. Deegan has a lot of catching up to do from an experience perspective on the 450. I definitely think he will get there because love him or hate him, the kid is a worker and I can respect the hell out of that.

Jett is a generational talent and his style reminds me so much of Jean-Michel Bayle, who could get on any bike and dominate.

Even I expected him to get a moto by now... but he looks slower this yr on a 450 than last yr on 250... and now it seems he's just fine settling for 3rd... I think today, when he tried to pass bam bam on the outside, knowing bam owed him one, that told me all I need to know... he's got the want, but not the brains, to win at the 450 level...

I actually am not surprised and feel like he’s right where he should be on the 450 first year and there’s no shame in a consistent 3rd place (minus today’s second) every weekend behind the Lawrence bros. He’s going to figure it out and keep improving. I do feel like he’s being humbled given his demeanor during interviews now and for me it’s an improvement over the jackassery when he was winning. If he can dial that stuff back when he does get a 450 win I feel like he’d gain even more fans. Myself included.

He’s not fast enough to win at this stage. Needs a major mistake from the bros.

Good rookie season though.

He looks slower because he's against much faster people than he faced in the last couple of years in the 250 class.

Doucheboy is just going to have to get used to the fact that the Hunter Brothers will always beat him indoors.

And the Hunter Brothers and  the Coenen Brothers will always beat him outdoors.

But daddy gonna get him those clicks, though. #youtube baby

Deegan's crash dismount impressed me. He could have easily slammed into the handlebar with his body. His precisely timed dismount was quite poetic and he avoided a potentially hard impact.
