Didn't he also race in 2003 with a broken leg? Tougher than a 2 dollar steak as RC says!

Don’t know the stats but I’d like to throw Tyla Rattray’s name in the mix. He did win an MX2 title though so maybe it doesn’t count.

Pit Beirer from my memory. Also Josh Coppins, and Kurt Nicoll. Don't most/all of the FIM contenders hold National Titles though? So it's a bit different compared to AMA.

Everyone is listing people with titles.

We are looking for the mount rushmore of no titles in either class (including 125/250f supercross titles).  For me being a legitimate threat and winning races is important for this list, not being a long time journeyman top fiver.

Currently it looks like (post 2000s)
DV
Forkner
Seely
Alessi (borderline)

Who am i missing? Was Sipes a favourite and winning races and in contention? I always saw him as a podium threat occasionally

And and the final results are in (LOL)

The best to never win a professional champion are in this particular order

DV (by a country kilometre)

Forkner
Davalos
Ryan Hughes
Alessi

Seely
Stroupe

No factor on 450 but the fact that Jordon Smith didnt end up with at least one 250SX title is crazy to me. He had crazy speed sometimes but was too often on the ground unfortunately

I get that the question is in either class. But if we only look at the premier class, Marvin is also up there. He was able to beat some of the best riders in the modern era indoors and out but never won a premier title.

Larry Ward should get an honorable mention. Crazy long career, and a podium threat for over a decade.

Man, I was just thinking of him the other day! Do y'all remember 2009 Glen Helen when Villopoto was way back (about 15 seconds) and caught Alessi and passed him? It was EPIC!!!

Not weird. I’ve lost my dad, brother, and am currently fighting for my mum. He was kind enough to reach out to me.

“On Saturday night, January 12, 1991, in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl, sophomore rider Hughes came one turn away from winning the season-opening 125cc East Region Supercross main event over Brian Swink. After this promising start, his initial momentum would be slowed by a broken wrist at an exhibition race at the Fukuoka Dome in Japan. Other injuries collected along the way in 1992, and 1993 would haunt the Californian all the way to the start of the 1994 season. Once physically back up to speed for the start of the 1994 125 West Supercross series, there was another setback, one of an entirely different type—Ryan’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

“He had terminal colon cancer, but at that time, it didn’t register with me what terminal was. I had blinders on. They told me my dad died when I got home from the opening round of the series at Houston. At the second race at Anaheim, I didn’t qualify.”

Brokenhearted, Hughes forged on and a week later inside Jack Murphy Stadium in his native San Diego, rode his SplitFire/Hot Wheels/Kawasaki KX125 to the first victory of his Professional career. It really couldn’t have come at a better time for the then-20-year-old. “I won that race, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. My dad died the week before, and then I won the next race. That was a massive emotional roller coaster for me.”

Seb is a World Champ, but didn't win an AMA title. Trey, Travis, and KW never won a premier class title.

Read the title man 🤣

He’d have to be in discussion as some of the best to never win a title in either class? His early season win for multiple season was pure domination… untill they weren’t.

Thoughts/discussion?

Who would be your Mount Rushmore of titless legends?

Magoo?

John Dowd won tons of Nationals  in the 125 and the 250 class, but never an outdoor title. He has a 125 west title but was far better outdoors.

Coppins in MXGP

As a Brit, I also think Tommy Searle got pretty unlucky to come through at the same time as a certain Jeffrey Herlings

I think Alessi has to be as high up as can be.

One of the best to ever come out of amateur ranks tied with Stewart for most Lorettas titles. Podiums on a 450 behind KW and RC in his second career pro race as a 16 year old!

Favorite to win the 09 outdoor 450 title before he got hurt. Holeshot KING.

People clown him for getting emotional winning a 450 heat race but that was the first race he ever won in SX after so much (believe the) hype.

2005 Lites outdoors 3rd in points (EDIT championship came down to last race infamous Tedesco incident?)

2006 Lites west SX 4th

2006 Lites outdoors 2nd

2007 450 outdoors 2nd (16 points off Langston for 'chip)

2009 450 outdoor points leader before injury

2012 450 outdoor 2nd

Mount Rushmore is 4, right?  Off the top of my head, not counting regional titles or riders who were exclusive to the GPs (a class by itself), just 250/450 MX or 450 SX.

Hard to leave off Bradshaw, then Broc Hepler, Andrew Short, Alessi in that order.  Also hard to leave Magoo off, but maybe that's a different monument.

Mikey would’ve been 2nd in the 05 outdoor series as well but I think he got DQed for his move on Tedesco which cost him 2nd in points.
