I know they weren’t shortened at that event. They have been shortened BECAUSE of what happened.

My mistake, I guess it was after that any national in Texas was out

If motocrossers are the fittest athletes on earth they should have literally zero problem running 2 45 minute motos in 100 degree heat.

Tell me your IQ is lower than the average January temperature without telling me….

It’s not fitness or heat that’s the only concern. It’s recovery. You physically cannot consume enough electrolytes and nutrients to effectively recover from what you lose during those motos.

You could be an Olympic gold medalist in every sport in the world, but when your body is depleted of electrolytes, you cannot physically or mentally function. That’s what makes this the most dangerous and difficult.

💯 true. I got severely overheated one time. I have severe heat intolerance now, and it’s no joke to deal with.

Levi got loopy last year, I believe. JT said that he wasn't making any sense under the tent after the race.

Wow, where I grew up it averages 10-20 degrees celcius. It's great to know that there are guys with such big dicks around here.

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago, I hate being inside and it’s definitely put a damper on what I can do outside when it’s super hot. It’s a real bummer!

I spent years working hard labor in factories with air temps around 130F. I don't feel the need to call people pussies for shortening motos/taking precautions when the temps get into the 90s. I've seen people fall out and need hospitalization doing less in less harsh conditions.

Max effort for 35 minutes without breaks/replenishing yourself is just dumb in those conditions.

These pros need to grab their nuts. Remember they're men and go out and moto down.

Did I miss where they're complaining? Its just a thread saying its gonna be hot

I’m sorry you deal with it too. People have no concept of how bad it can be, until they get it.

No.  I’m tripling down.  Again, for the 15th time;

If motocross riders are the fittest athletes on earth, they should be able to run 2 45 minute motos in 100 degree heat with ease.  You can’t invalidate my hypothesis because the guys in the smoking section are going to end up pushing up daisies.  They’re motocross riders but not elite world class athletes.  If the smoking section is low on electrolytes or water or whatever, then DNF and leave the serious racing to the mature adults.

Remember when Pourcel used to take those ice baths in between motos? That was because his sweat glands didn't function well after his temporary paralysis and he had difficulty lowering his body temperature.

Again, my argument isn’t about fitness. But I’ll try to break it down one last time.

It doesn’t matter how fit you are if you cannot replenish the appropriate nutrients into your body. The only way these guys can appropriately do so in the time that they have between motos when it is that hot is through an IV, which is strictly prohibited by the AMA.

I’ll challenge you do go do a little experiment and prove me wrong. This isn’t going to be exactly what these guys go through, but this should serve as a pretty comparable baseline.

- Go for a 5 mile run outside, then come inside and drink as much Gatorade and take as many vitamins as you want.

- After two hours, go into a sauna and do jumping jacks non stop for 30 minutes. Do not bring any fluids into the sauna with you. After the 30 minutes is done, get out, hop in an ice bath and drink/eat whatever you think your body needs at that time.

- after an hour, go do the sauna experiment all over again. Remember, no fluids during your time in there doing jumping jacks.

Now go do that every week for 3 months. Remember, if you don’t recover enough in just 1 of those weeks, then you will put yourself at risk of severe dehydration or even potentially a heat stroke in any one of the subsequent weeks. At minimum, you’ll have a horrible bout of diarrhea that could also create a snowball effect for the future weeks as well.

It has nothing to do with fitness. It's physics. Your body's ability to regulate body temperature has limits and once you surpass those limits you're in real danger. If it's too humid for sweat to evaporate effectively and the air temp is basically the same temperature as body temp there's nowhere for the heat you create with exertion to go. No amount of being a badass fitness guru changes that. Guys get away with it working in hot factories because they're exerting themselves far less and not generating near as much body heat that needs to be dealt with.

You all are 100% wrong.  100%!  I DGAF how hot it is.  You run the motos.  Make them 45 + 2.  If you’re not fit enough to finish a moto, call it.  Ride back to the rig.  And then make a commitment to get better.  If you have to slow to a crawl, then do it.  Are you all really this soft?  What the hell is the matter with you!  Ugh!
