That is exactly what happened to Starwest/State Fair.

The homes are farther away than it looks from the video. I think whatever lens the videographer is using is giving you a weird depth of field. Also, the track was there first and I have a feeling the realtors are doing their job by warning new buyers that there's a loud, dusty motocross track a half mile away. Finally, this is Lake Elsinore. Most of the homeowners right there probably drive lifted F-150s and wear flat-billed caps. An MX track in their backyard is a bonus for them.

Kind of (and I could be wrong so spare me from tar/feathering if I am)

Starwest weathered the first few storms because the city straight up said that Starwest (original) was one of the only sources of revenue for years WELL BEFORE the houses popped up across the street.

Now after ownership changed hands a few times, I am sure that loyalty/allegiance faded, but for a good amount of time Starwest had the cities backing.

Additionally, the city slogan is "Dream Extreme" and their general planning has carve outs to make sure the track continues to exist.

There's not a lot of city governments that are THIS supportive of a motocross track... Certainly no others in the state.

He certainly has a beautiful riding style.  He stays really light on the bike and seemingly floats around the track.  It will be interesting to see how it translates to the east coast tracks that feature deep track marker to track marker ruts through every corner.  To me, it is strange that he would want to base so much of his training on west coast tracks with smooth, open corners when that is certainly not what he’ll be facing most of the summer.  As I recall, he struggled on wet, rutted tracks in Supercross.

Am I the only one who thinks that looks like terrible track prep?

It’s Elsinore. It’s going to be the worst dirt you’ve ridden on no matter what.

The owner of Starwest told me that the housing complex across the street had conditions in the sale that they could not complain about the noise as a condition of the sale. Just sayin

Lake Elsinores city motto is “Dream Extreme” with the skydiving and the lake right there, makes sense to throw the track in for good measure.

So you’re saying one of the fastest dirt bike riders in the world looks really fast while riding a dirt bike? I’m shocked!!

I think the pattern, and impending Weege repetitive saying, will be Prado getting the holeshot. I think the precedent all summer will be who can run him down  after he gets the start, if anyone.

There is also an airstrip right next to it with planes taking off and landing all day long everyday.

Those homeowners can go fuck themselves, Elsinore is immortal! 😆

The City of Lake Elsinore is Action Sports friendly. It helps a lot when your Mayor comes out to your Grand Opening. "Dream Extreme" is in their logo.

Lake Elsinore has one of the most famous dirt bikes ever made named after it.  They should have one on display at city hall.

They all look fast when Deegan isn't on the track.

Starwest has been closed for probably close to two years now, I think the fair ground or the Rodeo people maybe took over the property? There’s a big mound of dirt and a bunch of big rocks piled up where the track used to be. Starwest was where my first race was on a Pw50 back in ‘95, and first trophy, I still have it 😁😁  I also remember Danny Carlson hauling ass there all the time on his #135 Honda 80s!!

Relative to all the great and storied tracks in SoCal, Starwest was a crappy little track… but I enjoyed every lap I rode there…

I think it's funny that people (incl. people like Matthes) are seriously questioning his fitness. You really think someone can become an MXGP champion beating guys like Herlings, Febvre and Gajser while being unfit? Fading in SX races when you have less than 20 races in your life (none on a 250) is a completely different thing, that was down to lack of experience and wanting to get through the season.

Faded in races when he literally gets on the podium at the final Sx round.

It's obvious Sx Mx is about racing with a level of comfort & control that allows you to race relaxed, tightening up is what causes fade in most cases.

Prado ought to be comfortable enough now to fight for podium positions most wk ends id have thought.

His 2023 season was pretty much as you described, 100%. His 2024 season though? Didn't really matter where he started, he just blew by everyone most of the weekends (considering he had a bad start which didn't happen too often lol).

Also his 250 title in 2019 is stil the most ridiculous thing I've watched in MXGP other than what Herlings did. Holeshot every single race and be gone after the first corner, everyone just lined up for 2nd place and they knew it. I think that's why people think he can only win when he holeshots but he also proved different. Anyways, I hope we see this 2024 version again..

Thomas Kjer Olsen a constant top 2-3 mx2 rider, also a couple wins under his name. Top 9th in his MXGP rookie season in 2021, had a horrific crash in Kegums in 2022, suffered a head injury and a broken back if I remember correctly, was put into a coma aswell. That was his last race sadly.

Ah yes how could I forget him. I recognise the name now with the "Kjer" in it - Malin always called him TKO in the commentary. Sad to hear his career got cut short so brutally but good to know he's on the road to some kind of recovery.

There were races where he started drop his laptimes on lap 5. Clearly that's a fitness issue lol

I think it is mainly being able to ride a (for him) 110% pace for only a small amount of the race. Then you have to be smart and ride within your limits. He had a few podiums in his first real first season (last year at Kawi he had that shoulder injury) and a heat race win. Outdoors is completely different and I think he will be a legit title contender. One thing is for sure, he isn’t scared or intimidated by anyone. So I cannot wait for his battles with all of the other awesome riders in the 450 class

My one question is if the different track prep in the US will affect him. We all know he’s great at preventing guys from passing him if he has to but most guys that go to the US from the GP’s comment on how much more open the tracks are and how they allow for more passing so I’m curious if that strategy will work as well on the US tracks. I have to think he’ll be competing for podiums and wins regardless though.

IMO after watching GPs so much years at the tracks and know the riding style of Prado, IMO he should be better at open tracks because he dont stop so much the bike entry in the corners and carry momentun.

In the elsilnore video looks on fire and riding like himself, floating and moving forward not making so much noise.

I saw at the races Herlings and Gajser pass a corner full gas on 3rd gear and thinking that was the fastest and in the other hand Prado pass on 4rd gear barely revving the bike and being faster than both.

Let’s not forget the Elsinore GP.  The city is very embracing of this race.

Funny that this thread is a two for one.

I’ll add that the self wash across from the boat ramp is one of the best in the area. I detour there often to clean the bike before heading home.

Last,  I am rooting for Prado. Dudes style, when on it, is flawless!
