Coop on Pulp

Edited Date/Time 4/29/2026 8:12am

For me when choosing riders I like, personality and how the portray themselves is huge for me in choosing “my guy”

I used to Hate Webb, his interviews, attitude, all of it. That being said, he really grew on me in recent years, it started with a great interview where he gave a lot of props to Eli when he went back to Star, and then his pulp appearances I started to really appreciate him and his honesty.

This week he was on pulp, and I almost switched back to disliking the guy, I’ll copy paste in the transcript of him talking about Kenny, and it kinda rubbed me the wrong way, I get they are competitors and whatever, but I guess I lost a lot of the respect I had gained for him recently (which I know means nothing, I’m a nobody, it’s just my opinion)

🗣️:"Like the kids are saying right now, remember who you are, white boy. I got beat by my rival, so I'm pissed. You know, that was one that I was just freaking right there, right? And I do think, I mean, I obviously got to set the cap to Kenny, but I think that I've had him in that wheelhouse before, right? And, you know, it was a little late, right? Like I gave myself basically one lap on his wheel as opposed to maybe, you know, lurching a little bit more than I, than I like in past races. So I think that was more or less kind of what it was. And I had made a mistake the last lap, missed, missed a jump. So just kind of mad at myself and then just also, and honestly, yeah, I mean, I've been congratulating him, you know, we've all been very respectful this year and were congratulating on races and this and that right after the race. And I kind of was like, you know what, screw that. Like the guy just kicked my ass. I ain't freaking, you know, give him a hug and kumbaya after that. Like I, I shook his hand and told him great ride on the podium, but, um, like I said, I gotta get back to the, yeah, maybe, maybe old Coop, you know."
#Supercross #SMX

Also throwing shade at Kenny for how he always has him covered late in races during the press conference..Being gracious in defeat is classy and something I admire in riders, Webb is lacking it a little to me.

He said it himself in the interview, he wants to go back to who he is and what made him successful, followed by “as the kids say, remember who you are white boy” 😂

But yeah, I think at his core, this is the type of guy he is. Cool off the track, but he’s a prick on the track and to his competitors.

He's as fast as he's ever been. Roczen is finally riding like he was once capable of. No offense to Paul but he's a product of Roczen's t-rex arms and Eli's mental frailties

That’s the Coop I like, I don’t like the one that congratulates his comp.

I wish Kenny would have given him the finger gun when he crossed the finish line Saturday. CW has always had a bur in his ass over Kenny, but he (KR) always takes the high road.

I don't think it's a very big deal. I think Coop is a pretty normal, chill, respectful guy normally, but he realized early in his racing career that shifting into an agitative "villain" mindset helps him for whatever reason, so he adopts it when he feels it's needed. It can seem a bit unnecessary at times, but I like to think that what they do/say as it pertains to racing has little to no correlation to who they are as people. Racing is his job - there are many people who aren't the nicest, most cordial versions of themselves when they're on the construction site, or when they're in the courtroom defending a client, or when they're in the operating room leading a surgery.

I'm heavily rooting for Kenny this year, but was it not him that started the beef by commenting that Webb's then-girlfriend and current wife (Kenny's ex) was a, um, gardening tool, or something to that effect? Maybe I got my story wrong, but if that's the case, I would understand why Webb would have it in for the dude.

Doesn't bother me at all.  I'd expect, maybe hope, all of them to be pissed if they thought they could have won but bunged it, and sometimes when you've gotten pissed you might reflect later and admit it could have been handled in that moment differently.  He's had Kenny's number in the past, and right now Kenny has his number .  Of course he's pissed, but I don't see a lot of disrespect to Kenny.

Coop is just coming to the terms with the hard reality that his season is over.  In years past he was able to rattle Kenny, when riding behind him or with podium banter.  But Kenny's riding >Cooper's riding.  Wishing for a way to "Getting back to old Coop" is telling.

None of this bothers me at all and I've never been a Coop fan.

Coop has always been "right there" and has taken advantage for 3x championships, but not this year. He's been a tick off the pace almost every round and I'm sure it pisses him off. He doesn't need to shower his rival in praise either. It's actually weird to me that anyone even cares he ignored Ken.

Hell, I'm friends with my rivals in the 40+ class away from the track, but I'm fuckin pissed when I lose to them. 🤣🤷‍♂️ How else do you stay motivated? "Aw shucks, I'll get em next time."??? No.

I don't want to throw any shade towards Webb, but man 2021 was probably the most tilting I've been watching SX. Ken had everything (almost). Best one lap speed, starts, almost looked unbeatable for the first 10-15 minutes and then... absolutely crumbled, looked like he couldn't hold on to the bike at all. I think he lost 4 or 5 main events in the last 2-3 minutes that year. Kenny got a lot of hate that season specially for making "excuses". But the way he rides right now I definitely think those weren't excuses at all, he just tried to say how it is. Was probably hard to understand for us how he could look like one of the fastest guys we have ever seen for the first half of the moto and then drop his lap times by multiple seconds.

I still think 2019-2021 Webb wins more than just one overall and also doesn't only get 2 podiums in like 6 races. But still nothing makes me happier than seeing Ken beating him and getting some redemption.

sort of crazy how things have changed, if we consider disrespect not to shake a competitors hand after he beats you, is a bit of a stretch.  who said they have to like each other etc...all that matters is the racing, and Kenny is better this year, not complicated and not a world crisis.

i guess if I get thumbs down i'm being disrespected?   wtf...lolSmile

2021 SX was awesome to watch go down live. Remember the Daytona drama? I remember watching Ken’s interviews afterwards and almost felt bad. You could tell he was crumbling but he just couldn’t figure out how to stop the bleeding.

I’ve always been a Coop fan, and always had tons of respect for Kenny but he was never “my guy”. I haven’t rooted for anyone to win a title as much as I have for Ken this year. It’d be like when Dale Earnhardt Sr finally won the Daytona 500 in ‘98.

Can someone remind me of the specifics around Roczens's arm injury. Was it all on his own or was there another rider involved. With either of the top two winning, they both have ridden excellent, well and poorly at times over this season. Actually good to competition.

I don’t know what he injured specifically but they were both pretty much self inflicted. The crash in 2017 was out of nowhere but still caused by a mistake he made. In 2018 he went for a pretty unnecessarily aggressive pass on Webb where they both went down and Kenny’s arm ended up sliding into Webb’s swing arm.

Absolutely correct.

And Cooked Webb knows it...hence why he's got his g-string in a twist...oh, and the fact he hasn't won a single actual race this year (meaning - crossing the checkers first)...

I'm pretty sure the late race collapses from Kenny were due to the lingering effects of all those brutal surgeries.

Seeing Kenny kick Fat Boy's arse week in week out is glorious...

Riders are too nice to each other these days. Hannah didn’t tell his competitors great job.  He hated them.

Not a fan but I don’t think that’s a big deal. He had a worse comment post race I believe but whatever.

Didn’t they have girl drama back in the day? Coop dated Kenny’s old girl and Kenny made a joke about Coop taking his sloppy seconds or something? I could be getting the details wrong.

Eh, pretty sure my current wife had sex with someone else before she married me. I mean, how else did she have her son? So its no big deal that Pauls wife dated Kenny first.

I personally like this version of Webb. It amuses me.

I mean, he could be posting weird pictures of himself wearing a pastry on social media.

Cooper Webb has 21 450sx wins on KTM. He was at his best 19’-21’. At no time on the Star bike has he been better than 2021 at KTM. I would estimate his speed this season as his 5th fastest of his career.

What's this compulsion some people have to refer to his given name Paul when he goes by and everyone recognizes him as Cooper?  It it supposed to be some kind of clever snark and giggles?

Likewise calling Prado George?  Is this supposed to diminish the person somehow?

2017 was Seelys fault, he was holding Ken up and in the preferred line.

It's a tough look to act like you were somehow robbed of a win when you haven't been fast enough to matter all year. Is being salty a new term for 4th placing the competition into submission?
