Your takes are usually pretty bad but what do you suggest? Is it really that hard to empathize with someone having property stolen that was the physical embodiment of a collective effort of time and money?

I didn't say I didn't empathize with them. I said calling for someone to have their hands cut off for stealing some motocross bikes is extreme, and I would argue a retrogade step. If you'd like to live in a society like that...well, that's up to you.

Honestly, I’m at the point that yes I’d rather live in a society like that then constantly have to padlock, air tag, barb wire, cable lock everything I own because a scumbag can’t get a job, stay off drugs, and make wise decisions like buying their own toys. Decent people have run out of patience and tolerance with this garbage.

Exactly. I'm past the point of worrying about it being fair or rehabilitation or anything else, I just want to live in a society where decent people don't have to always be on the lookout for the very small percentage of people who do all of this stuff and terrorize everyone. You don't have to worry about restitution and rehabilitation if the deterrent is strong enough in the first place. And if there is that strong of a deterrent and you still choose to do the crime, I'm fine with a permanent solution because there's almost certainly no hope for you anyway.

All this crap starts with progressives eliminating the smallest of offenses like library late fees.

Suppose I don’t have a solution. “I don’t have alternative to your solution therefore I must accept your solution” is a terrible argument. That should be obvious.

Recognizing loss to the victim suggests that restitution should be a priority. I’d rather have the value of my stolen property back than than have the theif mutilated. I gain something from restitution but not retribution.

The point of retribution seems to be deterrence. The problem I have with mutilation is its permanence. Property can be replaced so that doesn’t seem proportionate. Flogging seems to be an effective deterrent in Singapore and while it hurts like hell, you recover - and probably don’t want to go through it again. A guy with no hands can’t work and earn a living and I would think that runs against the goal of rehabilitation (for the few cases where it’s possible).

Quite the contrast between how people here react to theft (with a no mercy attitude) vs someone abusing his wife (a lot of “I wish him well”). I think smacking around your wife is at least as bad as theft.   If a guy hits his wife or girlfriend should we cut off his hand too?

Everyone would rather have their property or the value of their property back, the problem is that by the time the lazy ass cops get around to making an arrest,  the thief has already sold your shit for drugs or fucked it up for no reason other than they can.  Good luck getting that restitution.

While “lazy ass cops” certainly exist, you are greatly over-simplifying the issue and in doing so, ignoring the real reasons why property crime cases don’t get the attention they deserve, and the appropriate punishment when they do result in convictions.

At least this Police department taking it serious and way up a sting.

Five Arrested in Undercover Operation Targeting Dirt Bike Thefts

The Monroe Township Police Department announced the arrest of five individuals following a coordinated undercover operation conducted in early January 2026 targeting a pattern of dirt bike thefts, attempted burglaries, and related crimes in Monroe Township and surrounding jurisdictions. The release of this information was delayed to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation identified a recurring method in which suspects utilized social media platforms to locate dirt bikes for sale, analyze posted photographs, and target storage locations for theft.
As part of the operation, detectives placed a decoy advertisement on social media depicting a dirt bike stored at a location in Monroe Township. The advertisement was designed to attract individuals attempting to commit theft.

During the operation, officers established surveillance in the area and observed multiple suspicious vehicles entering a nearby undeveloped section adjacent to the target location. In one instance, officers stopped a vehicle after observing indicators consistent with attempted burglary, including damage to perimeter fencing and evidence of attempted entry. Two individuals were taken into custody at that time.
As the investigation continued, officers conducted a follow-up operation at the same location. During that operation, three masked individuals were observed entering the property and attempting to gain access to the targeted unit using burglary tools. Officers immediately intervened, identified themselves, and took all three individuals into custody without incident.

Arrested:
• Luis Anderson Cleto, 23, Bronx, NY
• Antonio Dejesus Correamena, 38, Bronx, NY
• Axel Estevez-Gonzalez, 22, Bronx, NY
• Oscar Estevez-Gonzalez, 32, Bronx, NY
• Andy Estevez-Gonzalez, 24, Bronx, NY

All five individuals were charged with burglary-related offenses, including Criminal Mischief, Burglary, Criminal Trespass, and Possession of Burglary Tools. One defendant was additionally charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Additionally, further charges were filed against Jennifer Jaquez, 23, of New Brunswick, NJ, who was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Theft and Burglary.

Further investigation revealed that one of the vehicles used in the incident had been reported stolen out of New York City and contained an altered vehicle identification number.

All defendants were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center without incident.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Winn at 732-521-0222 extension 151.

Hard for police to get motivated to investigate and arrest someone when they know the jail will release them with signature bond and if charges are pursued by the politician prosecutor their sentence will be probation they repeatedly violate without consequence. If the crime is serious enough they might let some private company bill the state for an ankle monitor that won't be monitored. People laugh in the cops face when they get arrested because criminal and cop both know this is how it will play out.

According Vital-

Steal dirtbikes= punishable by death, you’re a reckless animal, and no longer deserve life.

Choke and Beat your wife= well, he’s not a bad guy , I hope he turns his life around, there a multiple reasons that may drive a man to do that, we don’t know the full story.

To be clear- it is easier to understand the whole story when some assholes steal property. You absolutely don't know the whole story about the other incident.

And, no, I'm not saying there is any valid reason for hitting or choking anyone, ever (unless they steal my dirt bike).

The solution is sound money, not fiat debt based money.  IN fact it fixes almost all of societies problems.

How does this fix the situation?

It means that the average man can still provide for his family instead of constantly having to chase the shiny object with no means of obtaining it.  It also allows for the wife to stay home and give proper care to the children so that they grow up with proper values and love.

Instead of buying that 3rd bike this year, get some gold before it's too late.

Situations like this make me appreciate the 2nd Amendment even more than I already do (if that is possible).  Alls I'm sayin'....

It's amazing how a simple unobjectionable thread like this one can wind up so far down the toilet. This place has reached full on whacko mode.

Some interesting thoughts here regarding crime & punishment.
Like a lot of life ; it's matter of degrees & perspective, pretty sure thats why the court system exists.
Imagine for a moment that it's your  teenage or young adult child who's the offender .. do you still call for their limbs to be removed ?

I had a neighbor kid & his buddies steal a boat from me many years ago, 5 months later the Sheriffs office contacted me & they'd recovered my property & that of others, they asked if I wanted to press charges.  I did.
Kids father came over & begged me not to pursue pressing charges for the theft,  I declined.
The court mandated he pay restitution for my loss & he now had a felony conviction on his record, I'd venture that mistake on his part likely cost him significantly as his life progressed in the form of employment opportunities, ability to get a loan & so on , a lifetime sentence of sorts.
Aside from the initial outrage of having my boat stolen, the episode had zero effect on my life or standard of living, pretty sure that the resulting legal action had a significant effect on that kids future.
There's a long list of things I'd have done differently if I'd have known then what I know now.

Sometimes the cops AREN'T lazy and the good guys win.  Sounds like this story has a happy ending, except for Methaniel and his buddy.

Today was a strong day for law enforcement and the ClubMX community.

Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office recovered nearly $70,000 worth of stolen property connected to the ClubMX theft that occurred on April 19, 2026. This case began with a tip received around 8:00am. Deputies acted on that information immediately, leading to a coordinated response that resulted in a full recovery by the end of the day.
All reported stolen property was located and secured. During the course of the investigation, deputies also recovered a stolen pickup truck out of Pickens County.
Recovered items include:
• 2025 Husqvarna FC250, white and black
• 2025 Husqvarna FC350, blue and white
• 2018 Kawasaki Z125 Pro
• 7x14 black V-shaped enclosed trailer
•2021 Kawasaki KLX110R, black and orange
A 2024 Husqvarna FC250, white and black, was initially reported stolen but was later confirmed to have been located by the owners.
Two individuals were taken into custody as a result of this investigation:
• James Murry Hicks, 53, Hartsville
• Raymond Luke Edward Watkins Jr., 33, of Hartsville
Both individuals are charged with:
• 5 counts of Grand Larceny
• 1 count of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
This case remains active. Investigators are continuing to follow leads, and additional arrests are expected.
This recovery highlights the value of community cooperation and fast law enforcement response. A single tip led to the recovery of a significant amount of property and the identification of those responsible.

I took about a 4 year pause from dirtbikes awhile back.  When I got back on the saddle I started from zero so I bought a 3k yz and rode it for awhile.  Sold it for alittle more and bought a new yz250 old for 7k in 2019.  Rode it for awhile and sold it for 6 and got a really good deal on a 250xcf that some dude never rode for 5.  I sold that bike and made alittle money and eventually bought a new 250xc.  If that bike was stolen I wouldn't be able to just drop over 10k on a bike, I would have to work my way back to it.  I think I would be ready to chop off a hand for something I worked that long and hard for.

Crime is is on a all time high and getting worse.

Medieval and draconian punishments are probably the only things that may deter these bastards from doing what they do.

Its really bad in S Africa. They'll break in, kill the men, rape the woman and little girls, then kill them before cleaning the place out.
