It’s been said many times; they’ve tested an electric start and Kenny didn’t like how it made the bike feel.
True, what the fuck would an estart change? Lithium batteries these days weigh less than one knobby
the extra gears add weight to the flywheel, and increases its effect. Some other manufactures have re-weighted the crank halves to compensate for it.

just simple...how to fire up a bike
btw: u still don't no the AMA rules...stock bikes...if they don't have an electric starter no e_start at AMA races
As @mxrose3 said, simplest way to put it is the engine doesn’t feel as free.
If the new RMZ ever comes out, they’ll need to make other internal changes to compensate.
As another poster put it, the lack of e-start had a meaningful effect on his finishing position when Hunter took them both down at Seattle earlier this year. And while Hunter is up on Ken now due to Ken's crash at Nashville, it would be a real bummer if another kickstart delay cost him the title. Yeah I know racers shouldn't crash, but I understand it happens.
Plus estart motor, plus gears, plus harness/connectors/fuses/relays/button, plus the flywheel effect the others have described…
K yep makes sense i had no idea it affected flywheel/inertia
New fan watching the live tv broadcast? Welcome to the sport.
Im new to the sport because i dont know the inner workings of an e start................right 🙃
I've seen electric take longer to start than it took Kenny today... people never remember how packing a battery, an electric motor, and a bunch of wiring work against you ever moment you are going around the track... it's like nobody can wrap their heads around electric start is a downside 99.9999 percent of the time...
That's a really interesting theory. Maybe Kenny can be competitive on this older platform because he doesn't have an electric start! He is so lucky to keep that engine running in that first mishap though. Even so, he kicked it and got going again quickly the second time he dumped it.
Didn't the electric start they were testing also break/have reliability issues? Swore I heard Larry say that in an interview.
So you asked a question but already knew the answer? Got it 👍
Any factory workshop could do that.
Huh? How did i already know the answer? which question?
You are probably right. I mean except for all the championships won by electric start bikes in the last ten years they are a huge disadvantage.
Pit Row
Cost him points today. It's all fun and dandy laughing about the kickstart and how cool it is but the fact is, it is a major disadvantage when you crash. And crashes happen.
Or why do you guys think that PMG and Roczen have experimented with implementing the RMX450Z electric start to the RMZ? Just for fun?
Somehow if Ken raced a Honda next year he would be ok with e start.
What, go e-start and give up the "kickstart Kenny" nickname??
Yeah, I would kill for KROC to win this 450 championship, so I feel your pain. I don't know. It's kickstart for the last 4 races, so all I can do now is hope all the stars align somehow. He needs maybe just a little bad luck on Hunter's behalf now even with some wins. Going to be tough. All we can do is believe until it's over.
Yeah if you have any idea you know this. Braylon won Daytona on a Honda w kick start that came stock e start as well. Pretty basic knowledge. So yeah jps I was joking but you are a clueless dumb ass.
Yeah he'd have to loose the name. Would be renamed E Start Kenny on his first day on the new bike.
Is the question why hasn't Suzuki made Roczen's bike e-start while the production bike is kick start only?
If I remember correctly, you have to start with the original cases of the homologated motorcycle, which means that any e-start device would probably have to be a full external kit, not integrated like a production model would be. That might be significantly heavier, but to be honest it seems like it wouldn't be a bad tradeoff if he were to not be able to restart it quick enough. This last stall was pretty quick, so maybe it isn't the issue that it used to be for him.
Leave Kenny's bike kickstart (if it actually is true he doesn't like the way e start feels) but give us an e start 250/450. Suzuki would probably double their sales.
If you had even half paid attention you’d know why PMG hasnt done it. Which has been explained several times. And even in this thread.
Not enough that’s it prevented e starts from winning majority of titles since 2018-ish.
All these Suzuki die hard’s sound like the guys back in the day saying carbs were better than EFI. I’d much rather ride a EFI bike than carb. Sure does carbs have some advantages to EFI yeah but the cons out weigh the pros. We all sat and watched when he fell and had to sit there and rock his bike back and forth in to neutral then start it and the poor bastard probably had to push a thumb activated hot start like he was on Doug’s Henry’s yz400. Suzuki is the heaviest bike and it doesn't have e start. They can’t just slap a e start on the motor they have now, it needs a total redesign. Other than maybe the piston and cams the motor is identical to a 08 the only bike that has more worn out sand casting’s on the assembly line is a yz250.
its probably his best season so far, even with loosing points to hunter when they both collided and he had struggle restarting his bike he is in 2. place!!!
So where is the point having a fast bike he is comfortable with or having a far more advanced bike with e start he doesnt perform as good as he does now?
Yes- he lost some points- but we all see him not dropping the anchor late in the race like he did years ago, we see him pushing his bike where he wants it and he did win a couple of rounds- he even carved through the field after a crash or a bad start.
I do remember when plessinger was on the new ktm racing outdoors and that bike had trouble restarting- these things do happen even with electric starters.
i heard Kennys problem was the clutch they used- he had to find neutral for starting, but it seems the new clutch now lets him start the bike even in gear.
So gentlemen- lets see if he can still do a miracle and get the title (with a littlbe bit of help/luck).
