I see no one menioned the US debt - The federal government currently has $36.21 trillion in federal debt.

So if just printing more money, giving it away, wars, stealing and embezeling it and not charging tariffs as other countries do will just kick the can down the road till no one affords dirt bikes.  I see lots of people complaining but no one offering a solution as to how to resolve the US bankrupcy trap and debt free fall it is currently in.  Putting ones head in the sand and saying it will automatically resolve itself in 4 years time when it goes back to continued debt spiral is why there is such a problem in the first place !  Reciprical tariff is one offering as a possible solution since the forgoing of tarriffs was the very reason the US spiraled in the first place. So remedy the exact issue should help - But what was $37Tn ie it is getting better is a big hole to try and climb out of.  Ignoring this veryfactual situation will end in bigger tears than attempting a remedy which will be hard at first but should get better over time . If not tarrif adjust ment then let hear your brilliant working solutions.

I love that your solution is taxing the common American people rather than the rich and the corporations. Ya know, the very same people stopped manufacturing here for higher profits for overseas goods.

The government needs to spend a lot less but if politicians did that they wouldn’t get reelected and the guys that replace them would just jack up spending again.

Same with passing the tariffs. I can't believe people are defending this.

I didn't vote for him the first time around.  I remember being in CA, visiting a customer.  He started on politics, which didn't go how I expected.  He asked if I voted for Trump, and I tried changing the subject, saying I don't follow politics.  He said you need to.  You see this business park I'm in.  It's been half-empty for 10+ years.  Trump is bringing US production back. There isn't a place to buy or rent here anymore.

So I'm hoping for more of the same.

That's the end game most people in this thread keep missing.  The end game is to increase US manufacturing and bring it back to the US.  The tariffs are just a tool to drive that behavior.  Manufacturing jobs and a manufacturing country yields a growing economy, which increases tax base.  The tariffs are all temporary.  People need to calm the fuck down.

If tariffs cause jobs to return to the US, and tariffs are removed, jobs will leave the US.

Can you imagine the response here on Vital if any other politician but this one had instated a 10-40% U.S. Federal excise tax on functionally all dirt bikes?

Like the stock market is going through!

If Kamala was elected, what was her plan for handling all of this? What was Biden’s plan? Why didn’t he run again? Why did Biden allow Russia to attack Ukraine?

Stock up on all your bike parts now while you still can.

Saving my old YZ250 might have been a good thing when used bike prices start too sore again.

We could stop spending 850 billion a year on “defense” what do we need couple million a year to maintain the nukes? There’s like 800 million firearms in the hands of the public….what more do you need?

I easily went and looked for a source for your claim (or your friends, rather) when you couldn't be bothered, but you had no problem parroting the false statement even though you had no clue of the legitimacy.

So I may be a dumbass, but I'm doing better than you.

My sisters ex husbands family lives in NYC and  most are a part of their family real estate business, or were at the time . I remember being there visiting about 15 or 16 years ago and they were complaining about  Trump doing a lot of the stuff he has been accused of as far as how he was running his bis. They were saying how disliked he was and I was surprised at the time. Only having seen him on the apprentice .

If Trump himself is saying they are a bargaining tool and making it sound like they are temporary. How will that fix the national Debt or fix any of the other things that  people claim it  will help? It really sounds like  it will be a big nothing in the end. Some more formulars to get some impressive numbers to make it sound great. But not a large amount of real positive change that couldn't have been done without the pain and disruption that has so far been the result. They already shaved $ 6.6 Trillion from the stock market  and the market is down $11 Trillion since Jan 17th ( according to a google search with an AI summary).   How long would Tariffs need to be in place to wipe out the US's Debt?  Its crazy to think that back in the late 90's there was a balanced budget . 1998 -2001.

Lets say there are some new factories built and some sort of reenergized manufacturing industry in the US. How do they keep those factories open after they remove tariffs?  Tax cuts? Unemployment is already very low , where do all the people come from for these new jobs?  Don't get me wrong I would love to see more stuff made in the US. And for people to have jobs that pay well when they perform well.  But is it worth what many would call socialism for the government to subsidize these jobs and factories?

I've seen estimates of 10 years to balance the budget. If that is the goal ( I thought that it was bringing factories back, more construction jobs to build them , while there are already millions of open jobs in that field right now ,boarder security , favors , or really who knows )  the general public would all need to be sold on the idea.  Otherwise its going to take too long for a single party to hold power and get it done.  If the reasons for spending more ( by the general public via taxes, tariffs , etc) are not clear and things that a majority agree on, Its not going to happen because  they will get voted out.

Having the reasons  for the tariffs change every news cycle  is not going to get the support of a majority. I feel like it will lead to more people feeling they are just being lied to.

Just heard there was mfg meetings (all together to discuss impacts) last few days and major impact on incoming bike prices in US. 20% on euro brands and 24% on Japanese.

“Double digits” price increases could be in play as early as next week! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Prices high enough let’s see how this rolls out.

A new bike is cool, but honestly it’s not going make you much if any faster. Save yourself dome money and rebuild your old steed.

Parts prices have also gone up significantly. New bikes have gotten more expensive but the cost to rebuild one even more so, generally speaking.

Some stuff has gone up a crazy amount.  Pipes , There was one price increase that happened that changed the dealer price to more than the retail was the month before! It was crazy ,ATV/UTV wheels too. they have increased so much that You pay about 2/3rds of what 4 used to cost for a single wheel now.

I am seeing some wild closeout sales from distributors, so keep Your eyes open, and if You are friendly with Your local shops  parts manager You might be able to grab some sweet deals on stuff over the next month or so. Who knows, maybe longer if stuff doesn't sell quick enough .  Unfortunately is a lot of the stuff that's not selling well right now anyway.

Anything made of steel (bearings, bushings, clutch plates, chains, brake rotors, pipes, etc) have had a 50% tariff on them since August. For the parts made in the USA, they’re paying it on the raw materials for both steel and aluminum, so their costs have gone up huge too.

If you see any parts with a steel composition still priced the same as it was a year ago, it won’t be for long.
