I appreciate the skill & speed of riders like Jett Lawrence or Haiden Deegan…but although everyone bags on Deegs for his cockiness, why no response to Jett’s recent comments…?
Well he’s not wrong. We most likely will never see anyone else go undefeated in their rookie year.
I believe that in order to reach the absolute top of any field, motorsports in particular, one must be supremely confident, bordering on arrogant. There’s no other way to convince your brain’s self-preservation department that going that fast on your chosen form of track is reasonable.
That said, I have always favored the “walk softly and carry a big stick” personality of letting your riding/driving do the talking. I don’t like openly arrogant people, regardless of what they do.
All I've detected douche bag from him for years. Carmichael and james would have smoked him if they were racing in the same era.
Yeah I remember people saying James was going to smoke RV once he moved to 450's. That sure worked out didn't it? Jett would be right there with those two alternating wins.

Any reason why they didn't win their first premier class SX title or went perfect first premier MX season?
Is that they new style? 1 ear inside the hat and 1 ear out?
Que the "RC had to race against MC" and "James had to deal with RC" crowd.
Well said, agree 100%.
Until someone beats consistently him he can say whatever he wants
No issues from me on that comment, and I am very critical. This guy is an all timer, and has results to back it up. Let me know when Deegs goes 24-0 in his rookie season, and ill say the same about him as well.
Here’s the full quote not entirely out of context. If you actually listened, he’s expressing that he kind of surprised himself more than arrogance
He also said “we’re never going to have another Ricky Carmichael or James Stewart again. Here’s this partially autistic kid like his brother *laughs”
It's absurd to me that he is only 22.
Well he’s won every single title available to him short of switching to MXGP. He’s already fifth on the all time MX wins list, and with another three wins he’ll enter the top 10 all time wins list combined SX/MX.
If he rides until he’s 30 like the current crop of champions he’ll be top three or better in pretty much every category.
There’s a huge difference in JL18’s and HD38’s mantra. That’s why nobody talks about it, cause there isn’t anything to talk about.
That hurt to read
There's clearly ONE thing on which he has tons of work to reach Deegan's level.
Arrogance.
Like, yeah.
Watch the video; it doesn't come off as arrogant. I'm not going to say he's humble, but he surely isn't in the same league as Deegan.
Pit Row
When Jett was on 250s and started to really find his feet he was reminded by his camp that he was not there yet. Now that he has proven himself in the premiere class it’s understandable that he is confident. He is the guy to beat.
He has had his moments where he has misstepped in interviews too but this is not it. And of course you’d need to have zero awareness to be comparing this to the Deegan approach.
Just another reason for me to want Eli and Deegs to smoke him during the nationals...if Jett even makes a full season without getting hurt...which I doubt.
I agree with everything you said but he has shown a penchant for getting hurt. That will derail a career very quickly.
Carmichael and Stewart are big fans. I get a vibe that they would have had their hands full racing him.
The OP image is not even the actual quote. Rage bait for Jett haters. The actual interview was fine. I listened while working last night.
He actually touched on his lack of being able to convey things properly at times. He knows he's come off disrespectful with some stuff and feels like an idiot when that happens.
There is one difference between JL and HD that are very important in the context of this discussion.
JL came from nothing and his brother was effectively feeding the family as a teenager. Both of them had no other options but to succeed and overcome the odds.
HD is a silver spoon fed narcissist that has been given every opportunity imaginable to succeed. Credit to him for not blowing the opportunity. But it comes off as ignorant when he’s always talking like the odds were stacked against him.
We, and that includes me, expect these guys to “own it” when they fuck up; and, now, we’re gonna have a problem when they kick ass and own it?
Not me.
Hey, Jett? Get some.
Posts like this are new age bullshit. Back when men were men we didnt discuss such crap.
What red blooded man gives a f**k if the fastest rider of this generation (and maybe all time) is being arrogan or not? Thats the kind of stuff woman discuss
They just didnt feel like it... duh.
Deegan has the arrogance down already, all he needs are the results to go with it - starting at Pala.
We'll have to see super_fan_38 meltdown when Deegan fails to replicate that stat.
I think his ears are different heights on his head
