I agree that Jett is historically elite.

I heavily disagree with your Deegan/Barcia statement, though. Deegan is objectively one of the best 250 riders we've seen in the past couple of decades. Barcia had a very good 250 career and has had a respectable 450 career as well, but he was never the level that Deegan is at right now. It would be a failure, plain and simple, if Deegan's 450 career ended up like Barcia's. Again, Barcia has had a respectable career - a few SX wins and several podiums indoors & outdoors is better than the vast majority of professional racers. But Deegan, by becoming an objectively dominant rider in both disciplines on the 250 and likely joining an elite group of 4x 250 champs, is raising the bar for what would be considered a "successful" career by his own standard.

IMO, if he is not a multi-time champion (with at least 1 in each discipline), it will be an underwhelming career. I realize this will be difficult, with Jett likely being his competition for several years and Hunter just now reaching his peak (not to mention Sexton, if he ever figures himself out again). But that's the way the cookie crumbles.

This! You cannot compare a rider in 250s (and the competition they had) these days to 5-6 years ago, it's simply pointless

In the words of Kid rock. " It ain't bragging motha f#@ker if you back it up".

I think its a mix of both. But to ride at that level You have to believe You can. I think that any oth the greats would say the exact same things in their primes if they were honest and not worried about sounding like they were full of themselves.

I have not watched or listened to that Jett interview yet. So maybe I should refrain from commenting until I do.  I'll circle back around after I listen to it.  Written out like that it's easy to think its ego driven, but the way its said and what was said before and after can change how it should be taken.

I don't mind Deegan talking confidently. I dislike the takeouts , the trashtalk is done to be fun and not in a hateful way. I  always think of the Brain and Travis rivalry and back and forths when I see/hear Haiden talking trash. And I just think of it as a show. and nothing personal. It does make it interesting and adds some spice to the race ,even if its not 100% real. It brings him attention and is helping get more eyes on the sport and that helps them all make more money and gain fans.  I would rather have it toned down a touch and be real, still have that edge to it but get away from the WWE feel.

Competition is who it is, no control over who you race against.

You don't luck into two outdoor titles.

Well he’s not wrong. We most likely will never see anyone else go undefeated in their rookie year.

Can you believe there are people who say “Jett never had any competition when he went 22-0”.

People that say that have profound, unfixable cognitive issues.  They’re deity damn cognitively deficient madre fornicators.

He did have some competition. But, certainly not a full field. Eli was out. Kenny only did one race. Webb and Pless were busted up and totally checked out. Anderson was out for most of the season. Chase went out early in the season with a bad concussion. Pretty decimated field. No cognitive issues in saying that.

I do remember that, and I remember it because of all the privateers getting lots of screen time because they were battling for top 5’s.

I remember Masterpool getting a lot of sixth overalls that summer but never making a top 5 overall.

He finished 6th overall with a 4-4 or 5-4 at Thunder Valley in 2023 if I remember correctly. He just blew by AC and Webb that day in one moto, that was pretty rad nonetheless

The greatest boxer of all time was deemed cocky, arrogant and brash back in the sixties probably before most of you guys were born. Mohammed Ali would trash talk his opponent leading up to his fights. He once called one of them an Uncle Tom, which is an ultimate insult to a black man back in the day.

One of his famous quotes, which I totally believe in:

"If you can walk the walk, you can talk the talk."

I have no problem with what Jett or Hayden have to say as they both dominate their respective competition. The mental game is very important in all different forms of sport.

Leigh Diffy must be reading vital as last night's broadcast, he used the Muhammed Ali quote that I posted on here recently. 😄

Jett has earned the right to say whatever the hell he wants. He has dominated in 2 classes. Now, he didnt really say these things in the 250 class and many 250 guys never do minus Deegan, but as a fan of Deegan it would be hypocritical to say Jett is acting any kind of way other than what he has already earned.

I like it!

I am excited for outdoors.

Jett Lawrence:

If I were to build the perfect smx rider, it'd be me.

I'm better than Haiden Deegan on a dirt bike

RC and James didn't have a perfect season in their rookie season like me.

Haiden Deegan:

Deegz has a couple of MXdN opportunities to test the "I'm the best 250 rider" narrative, and he chose to not test himself - and then dorked himself into Shimoda injuring himself out of contention. Epic career bonehead move. Agree with @jambalaya  that he has no where near the competition riders like Canard faced. Deegan didn't luck into those 250 championships, but he wasn't tested like previous generations. Not his fault he wasn't tested, but still wasn't tested as much.

We will see now that he is going into the big leagues in 450MX.

I heavily disagree with your Deegan/Barcia statement, though. Deegan is objectively one of the best 250 riders we've seen in the past couple of decades. As opposed to who Jett raced in the 250 class?  Yet you turn around and say Deegan is nothing but Barcia 2.0. Guess what?  The guys who are fast in the class now, riders like Deegan, Jo, Kitchen, Cole, Julien Beaumer, Chance Hymus, et al would all be fast if they were racing back then.  You are looking retroactively at Eli, Roczen, Dungey, etc. and comparing their careers to guys who are still in the 250 class.

And of all the names you mentioned, none of the riders has two outdoor titles. Eli was in the class for 4 seasons before he won his title, Canard was in three before he won his title, Bagget was in for four seasons before he won his, and Kenny, Musquin and Poucel never won an outdoor title in the 250 class. Eli didn't win any 450 titles until Dungey left, which was 4 seasons into his 450 career, and yet if Deegan doesn't win in his rookie 450 season, you'll probably be the first guy to puff his chest out and proclaim that you knew he was going to be Barcia 2.0.
