Don't stare at the gate until the last few seconds, when the starters running towards the dog house or the card goes sideways. He said you can only "Super concentrate" for a few seconds, if you stare at the gate too soon your mind will wander.

Treat every straight like the start straight, every lap. No cruising or resting, keep the intensity high.

When you're practicing pick a corner and keep going faster until you fall down, find the limit.

Learn bike set up and what the clickers do. Turn every clicker all the way in and go do some laps, then back out every clicker all the way and go do some laps. Try to learn what clicker does what.

And then after a hot lap when everyone almost ran into him he yelled, "Get your visors up and look ahead" !! lol

Those are some wise words for sure. Modern riders that don't work on their bikes should definitely learn more about bike setup. My dad used to do that to me without telling me like letting most of the air out of my tire or changing the sag to see if I would notice what he changed. I used to get so annoyed by it but it taught me a lot.

Seriously, "Look where you want to go".

Greenie...you and I both know this is the first building block in learning to go fast.  As soon as you start looking any where else...it's over.  This only applies if you're trying to go wfo.

Grandpa said on his deathbed, "I spent all my money on whores and booz." The rest I wasted.....

Accelerate on the downhills, no one else does it, easy passes. Advice from Kent Howerton

I embraced this and ate shit over the bars harder than I ever had before.  That's what you get when you match sound practice with a complete absence of talent.

Look where you want to go, don't focus on what is immediately in front of you - particularly on the start.

Dad's life tips. Never time to do it right, always time to do it over.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. He said it differently, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you"

Doesn't matter what you do, but whatever it is be the best at it.

Don't ride over your head. No one knows who you are and no one is watching you, ride your own ride.

My best friends wife’s dad always say “bang em at their house so they don’t know where you live”.

At an AHRMA national Jeff Smith said that $5 award isn't going to pay your hospital bills. Race for fun and don't take it too serious.

While I was an average mid pack 125 C rider for 3 years a local B rider taught me how to speed shift and we rode together the rest of the week. Next race I was a top 5 racer and quickly moved up to B class.

Couple years later already move up to the A class taking a Gary Bailey class he taught clutch slipping coming out of turns.

Now let’s talk about your left knee”. Now ask me if I took his advise. My doctor/ortho surgeon told me this more than once...I finally listened. "You like walking?...stop riding."

You aren't going to win the race on the first turn, lap, etc., but you can sure lose it.

Another rule to live by, perhaps more for off road, don't look at what you don't want to hit - the bike will follow your eyes to it like a magnet.

two phrases that have been most relevant (to me) as of late are:

For Management: "Do for them what you wish was done for you."

For Racing: "... we're not here to fuck spiders."
