Four straight 2nd place finishes. These guys better hope he doesn't get that first win that makes the confidence surge.

Thing is though, I think the 2nd places instead of wins are because of his confidence.

I think Hunter is one of the strongest guys out there mentally, and he already believes he can win and considers himself one of the top guys, so he doesn't need to ride over the limit and risk it for the win because he knows it will naturally fall into place soon without him having to risk too much.

For now he's focused on the championship

He just might Tim Ferry his way to a championship.

I'm still calling for at least 1 win though. It's coming.

he just might Dungey himself into this championship. If he's never off the box, the first slip up by the others might have him holding the trophy....

As RC said: If the same guy was winning each round, second place is no good.

But with different winners each round: second places = red plate.

He wants the red plate at the last round. The win is coming and will probably burst the dam of wins like he did in the 250 outdoors. HUNTAAAA💪🇦🇺🦘

The biggest thing is he's been super close to winning the smx title the last two years with a shitty SX season.. If it keeps going like this even if he misses out on sx or mx titles you'd think he'd be a lock for the million bucks

If Hunter stays healthy he wins the title.  I said it in December and I’m stamping it now.

Tomac is amazing but will have races like last night again.

Sexton is the biggest head case we’ve seen maybe ever as far as skill vs dropped ball moments

Kenny will lose steam after Daytona.

Cooper is a 4-7 guy speed wise with everyone healthy.

These are all hot takes but accurate.  Flame on.

I don’t think there’s a rider in the field that wouldn’t mind Dungey themselves into a championship. His “worst” championship he won three races and nine in his best.

Yeah dungey won 8,8 and 9 races I believe on his way to 3 championships.  He wasn’t just a consistent podium guy.  He won a lot too.   He also ran up front most qualifiers and races.  To be fair, I hope Hunter wins but he is certainly not the fastest guy.  Hes probably the 2nd, 3rd or 4th fastest guy on the track most nights right now.

What is the record for least amount of wins in a season for the SX champ? Jimmy Weinert?

Common Dunge misconception.  that guy won a lot.

Yeah everyone really just remembers the last season vs Tomac. But he completely dominated in both 2015 and 2016..

2015: 8 wins, 1.8 avg finish, 16 frikkin podiums!! Won the title with like three rounds to go?
2016: 9 wins, 1.8 avg finish, 16 podiums again. Also won the title with two rounds to go I think.

We haven't seen anyone with stats like that since then. Webb in 2021 and Tomac in 2022 had really good seasons aswell, but still not close to these stats. Jett had 8 wins in 2024, but a quite a few off-races. Dungey never had bad nights but also won a shit ton, both indoors and outdoors. Dungey is so underrated.

Pierre Karsmakers with 1 win in the 1974 season.

Other notables: Jeff Stanton in 1992 (4 wins) and Donnie Hansen in 1982 (4 wins).

At Daytona, Hunter’s demeanor seems to be different after his Arlington win. No longer happy to be second, he knows he can win and shoulda coulda won but Eli just got him at the right time.  No longer happy  “I did the best I could” now it’s an expectation to win IMO. Confidence earned.

Tortoise and the Hare. Slow and steady wins the race- for Hunta (and Webb)

It’s interesting how much he says he has to compensate for the bike. Nobody else talks that way following each race. He says he goes out first few laps learn where the bike is bad, learns how to work around it, and that’s where his late race speed comes from.

Lawrence camp has spoken about this before. They adjust their technique to suit the bike. Not try and make a bike suit them..

It comes back to the fact that you can’t make a bike perfect everywhere so you learn to compensate for where it isn’t.

I get what you're saying, but I think I disagree. Hunter is FAR from slow and steady. Fast and steady is closer Smile

Equal 2nd if not equal first in pace (on average, don't let Eli's Daytona advantage short-term sway that)

Yeah points leader after 8 rounds isn’t slow and steady.

Webb and Roczen are 20 points adrift; unless they pull something together in the next couple of rounds they are out of it.

Hunter has been in the top 2 fastest guys for 6 out 8 rounds.  I’d say he’s putting massive pressure on everyone else, Eli included, not to have a bad round.

Hunter had 1 Win and 5 2nds and I think only1 non podium finish.

Eli had 5 Wins and 2 non podium finishes that have him barely behind Hunter overall.
