Changing of the guard? REALLY SERIOUSLY??? Bunch of hopes and aspirations!! How many times have 2 strokes tried to make the main only to fail? You really think this is changing of the guard because someone "qualifies" for a main but finishes off the podium all while 4 strokes running race gas to cover up any smell of 2 stroke and 4 stroke exhaust covering up ANY sound of the 2?

This is freakin hilarious!
Wow, you suck at picking up sarcasm....

So from what I saw on that vid, Windham wasn't any closer to the top guys back then than he is now with everyone else on the "superior" 450.

And if the 4 stroke is so much better and "more advanced", why do they still allow double displacement?

This thread is getting me out of lurk status. I've been reading the site for a year or so now.

Racing definately used to be be more entertaining back in the smoker days. I first really noticed it while watching the Red Bud 2004 250 nationals back in the day. There was this one particular 180 corner that had a big double right after it. This was when 450's pretty much became the norm in the outdoors. The only guys still on the 250s were the factory Suzuki and Kawi guys, because they hadn't introduced a 450 yet. If you weren't on a factory team you were on a CRF450 that year! Anyways in this corner the 450 guys came around the track in their congo line, took the inside line, rolled the throttle on, and cleared the double. Then comes Seb Tortelli, one of the 250 holdouts, he comes flying into the corner, rear end skipping around, rails the outer berm and clears the double. It was just so much cooler to watch the aggression.

I realize I'm a little late to THIS game, and will probably jinx it because that Matthes guy (we know what he is all about) won't be clicking. But without reading through all of this, am I to understand that someone will be competing in the 450cc class on a 250cc bike? Why does that just sound stupid? Is there actually a rule book that allows such a thing?
It's what everyone wants, even the government. true story.

You sir are definitely correct. Motocross was way more exciting when riders worked their butts off to make jumps and gain time on their opponents. Now they just kind of chugg around on their four stroke pigs.

Still trying to figure out the logic by the "pro 4 stroke goobers" why they still need the double displacement handicap.

If my 4 stroke was so good, I would take on ALL comers instead of having them banned.

any more dyno results DV?

does using ceramic bearings make much difference? I've got an Eric Gorr 295 kit on my rm 250, v-force/fmf fatty pipe, was thinking about getting the engine/ gearbox cryogenically treated and ISF superfinished, replacing all the bearings with ceramic ones etc
be interested to see how much difference the ceramic bearings make

I'm really looking forward to seeing cedric out there on the 2 smoker next year, I think he will make the main events and hopefully even top 6 - 10! He is a great supercross rider, hopefully more teams will follow suit if cedric can put some decent results together!

That must be the helicopter that used to pull the banner saying, "Two Strokes are supported by a small, vocal minority...."

When this thread went viral and gathered more interest and views than anything else in Vitalmx's recent history, that helicopter siezed up quicker than a used fooper with Justin Barcia on it.

Sadly, this thread, like all pro two stroke threads, is falling on deaf ears.

About like the poor sales of four strokes and falling attendance at racetracks around the country?

Don't be so negative. It has to turn around but not based on nostalgic memories but because it's the only way forward for our sport. Fourstrokes is a dead end. If that's what the pro's will run in the future they will be widely separated from what the weekend warriors ride. If so they will not be racing for marketing, so who will they be racing for? I'm pretty sure the energydrinks will find a new way of selling their product that doesn't involve dirtbikes. When that day arrives they will be racing on the sort of bikes people can afford, or not racing at all. DV is a smart guy when it comes to marketing, and the attention Soub will get will get followers. It must hurt the manufacturers when their zilliondollar riders can't get the same attention as a pretty unknown frenchie among the hardcore fans. If a rider gets loads of attention without getting on the box he is still attractive to sponsors. Twostroke riders will get that sort of respect. I see great things coming out of this!!

With french wonderkid Cédric Soubeyras !

Team Yamaha Motoconcept, 250YZ, 6 races (from Phoenix to San Diego).

Excellent news !!!
I guess you spent all of 2006 in a drug induced drool. A retired rider too, went on to finish fourth, I think well inside the top 10 on a two stroke.

Guys like you beat me to death with this kind of stuff. They are nearly double the displacement because that's what the AMA allowed to be developed and raced. When the 400, 426, and 250F came along from Yamaha the AMA could have reigned in those limits but they didn't. Then the sale of those 4-strokes blew up compared to their 2-stroke counterparts. And now you're here crying with your fellow goonies on a message board.

And yea, nice jab at Windham.

OK. My pic is fixed. One down, one to go.

When Cedric makes a main, the other one gets it too.

We are just trying to clean up the mess the Ama geniuses got us into.

The displacement rule was wrong then, it was wrong 5 years ago and is still wrong today.

Equal displacement = no more beating you to death.

Nothing against KW. He's a great rider and I love to watch him ride. I was just using him as a point of comparison.

Nothing against 4 strokes either. As a matter of fact, I do own one as well as a 2 stroke. I just want to see the handicap dropped from racing so people can really have the choice to pick the bike they prefer to ride and race. If 4 strokes are still that much superior that every rider races one, then so be it. At least it will be done with equal chances on each side.

I agree. Fourstrokes are actually really great motocross bikes. When the handicapp was first put into play it worked out since the four strokes were heavy, sluggish, and had no chance against two strokes. Now the four strokes are getting all the attention when it comes to new parts and technology. If they would just get rid of the handicapp we could se which bike is really superior over the other.

No dyno charts right now... My dad is doing the bottom end with ceramic bearing and the whole nine yards... As soon as I get something, I'll post it.

We started to build the chassis from ground up today...
