We all know the greatest hits: "I seen," "watch this pass," "catbird seat," "learning lesson," "must situation"…etc., but I think he's revealed his magnum opus.

"I got my first win in San Diego fifteen years ago."

No, Ricky, you actually got your first SX win at Daytona in 2000. Man alive I wonder what's happening in his head sometimes.

when did he say that? I remember him saying something about his first win being 25 years ago, but nothing about 15 years.

In the commentary or post-show, he said he got his first win in San Diego, 25 years ago. James looked a little weirdly at him, and I thought it was odd, but at the time, I didn't doubt that Ricky mightn't have his facts straight. Funny.

Is it possible he was talking about the first time he won in san diego, not the first win he had? According to the vault 2001 was the 3rd time he had raced there but the first time he won it

He said something very peculiar about McAdoo in the 250 main.

"Good run for Cameron McAdoo, we know he's capable of these kind of rides. The reason that I say that, I mean, he took a lot of time off last year, a lot, and to see him up here, battling, it's great."

In keeping with the theme of your thread, the title should be:

"Ricky's outdid himself"

I wonder if it’s the pressure behind the job that gets him because he is completely fine when he goes on pulp or even on his own pod.

it was a REALLY bad broadcast for RC. The "....and the reason I say that is...." comments are just cringe and awkward. My favorite is he did his yelling thing when something happens then he tried to reign it in with "....the reason I'm responding like that is..."

Ugh. And Will sucked. Like always.

😂😂😂😂 I’m about to re-watch the race after being there in person. I can’t wait to hear that one.

it's gotta be one of his worst broadcasts perhaps ever. He was all over the place.

Ricky is our Madden. Just embrace it.

Personally I got denied many Great Bubba Puns because Kitchen fell back. Stewart is AWESOME with the puns.

I believe he said "25" years ago.     I am fine with his announcing, tho James is def better at it. Both of them are not there for there excellent announcing skills - they are there for their legendary status as two of the best ever racers. I like to hear both of their insights.

I'm OK with both their broadcasting but believe that Stewart is much better. But then again I also like Will.

Was he referring to his first San Diego win?  I don't know.

I typo'd when I said 15 years, but Leigh said "A lot of riders have gotten their first win in San Diego" and Ricky replied "Yep, I got my first win in San Diego 25 years ago."

I think he simply mis-spoke…meaning his 1st SD win was 25 years ago…?

You know, for all the mad shit talk about RC’s tv work, he seemed to do pretty damn good last night. I’m under the impression he’s been “working on his tv game”.

Oh, and, let the down votes commence…I know I’ve surely stepped over the line on this one! 🤣

Agreed, I also think the issue is with how it was worded.

Saying, "I got my first San Diego win 25 years ago", would have been a clearer way to say what was intended.

You did read that forum where they have given you the opportunity to mute the broadcast???  If you have issues... you should take advantage.

I agree. Downvotes or no I like giving Ricky shit for his mistakes but he was pretty solid last night. He and James were good, analytical, not overly excitable or saying weird things. Leigh on the other hand…

The biggest flaw about RC as a broadcaster is that he doesn't just be himself but changes his entire demeanor to what he thinks a broadcaster should sound like or something. The reason Stewart is great in that role and widely loved as a commentator is that he is himself and just rips it as he sees it in his own words. Same with Langston, he didn't try to spruce up his vocabulary or be reserved on calling things for what the are while they happening.

Everything in my life is 10-15 years ago…when in reality it’s 20-25. Happens to all of us as we get older..

Some people tighten up when the camera goes on - call it stage fright - and it would appear RC is one of them based on what we've seen from him in other settings. And he also doesn't seem to have a "quick twitch" mind which leaves him searching for words and likely exacerbates his condition. He's trying to do what a producer/director has told him and since it doesn't come naturally to him, this is what we see. Think of it like your average C class rider who needs more practice to get to the A class versus a prodigy like Ron Lechein who was naturally talented enough to start off in the A class.

It's like most things in life - people have a greater aptitudes for different activities. If they enjoy something that doesn't come easily to them, then they just have to work harder to achieve the level of success they desire. But all the hate the guy gets for not qutting and working to get better at something he wants to do is puzzling to me. 🤔

I hear many people giving RC a hard time about the "Oh-Oh!".

Well, if those people have ever watched F1, IMSA, INDY, NASCAR, etc. They all do it. And what's really funny about the criticism is that so does everyone seeing it.  It's called emotional response. How anyone gets all worked up about this really puzzles me.

I enjoy Paul Malin (and he's widely praised on here) but the guy routinely makes sounds when he's calling a race like he's struggling to finish his business on the porcelain throne. 😄 Can't say I remember hearing a lot of criticism about it.

I expect he meant his first win in a stadium, since Daytona is sort of its own animal. Especially in his era.
I think we should be glad to have the GOAT of our sport in the booth and stop nitpicking every detail.
I guess everyone’s brain is different, but what I SEE on the screen os 95 percent of the broadcast to me, whatever they say is the other five. Just not that big of a deal…

You complain about Ricky making mistakes yet your post has a mistake in it?

He sucks at his current job but yeah sure because he was fast in the late 1900s and early 2000s that means he’s earned the right to butcher every sentence he attempts and add zero insight.

He sounded like he was climaxing during Marchbank's get off in the whoops - oh, oh, oh, ohhhh.

That being said, I think RC is better when James is in the booth. He still uses countless malapropisms and makes endless grammatical errors, but his actual analysis is better.

james insights and ability to actually connect with whats on viewers' minds is a breath of fresh air. e.g. why not to drop the throttle in the whoops when you get sideways. if ricky approaches anything that useful in insight its said in such a patronistic way that its immediately tuned out. dude needs to hang it up already.
