Last nite was tough for Sexton fans….I had Sexton winning in my RMC picks😂 this is why I never win….probably should have done some pre season SX races? Hopefully they get it figured out….comfortability…
Whenever he does have a bad race, his comments are usually measured, thoughtful, and honest. Maybe it was very mature of him to not comment last night...

Maybe it was very mature of him to not comment last night in the heat of the moment.
He had a bad night for sure, other than qualifying. I thought he picked a really bad gate for the main. Especially since the track seemed to be very holeshot dependent. He was trying to hug the inside but got pinched off big time.
chase has always done this, and I'm sure nobody is more frustrated than him. That said, this is a TERRIBLE start and reminds me of last year's 1st national race where he lost his goggles and the entire season imploded. I'm not saying it's going to continue happening, but I imagine he didn't sleep so great last night.
I think it was a combination of a very stupid gate pick that showed a lack of confidence in his start after drifting out bad in the heat race. He hoped to sneak on the inside of turn 1 to end up in an okay position. It didn’t work on the first start, or the second, and then he watched the Barcia crash from right behind it. You could see him looking very concerned/hesitant waiting for the second start. This sport doesn’t go with hesitant…not with this field. I think it messed with him to the point he couldn’t ride like he can/should. I have to say…watching someone who at times has looked like one of the top two riders in the world on an SX track jumping the whoops, while even Webb was still blitzing them, was one of the most painful things I have ever watched in SX. I don’t think it was at all the bike, that looked great in qualifying, but Chase’s mental state. Hard to watch as a huge Chase fan,

I worked late, started to watch the races on my phone when I got home. Skipped through to what I THOUGHT was the first time lining up for the 450 main & was wondering.. why does chase keep looking around & seemed so unfocused?! Then a few minutes later realized what was going on.
But forsure chase didn’t seem right, who could blame him.
Dude got lucky he went down kinda sideways in the heat race rather than end over end, then gets a front row seat to the Mook/Barcia accident a few turns into the main. Obviously not comfortable on the bike (set up wise or mentally, or both) in the main and it showed. Not a great race by any means but I wouldn't call it a disaster.
But can anyone at all in here raise their hand if they didn't think to themselves in the heat "Chase gonna Chase" when he crashed? Had to be playing in his mind also.
I’m a fan of Sexton along with many others. It seemed like a great first race on a new bike and team. Qualifies fastest, settings didn’t translate well to the track changing, bike wasn’t responding well with how the track was in the main which showed, even the commentators said it didn’t look like the bike was working well. About halfway through he didn’t push any more and took what the night gave him. As they say you can’t win a title on the first night but you can certainly lose one on the first night.
Not related to his ride last night, but I was listening to the RacerX Review Podcast with Matthes, Weege and JT, and Weege said that at the final round of SMX, Sexton wasn't even on speaking terms with his mechanic or the rest of the team at KTM. I typically empathize with him and think of him as a pretty stand-up guy who is his own worst critic, but the more I hear, the more it seems like he might be an absolute pain to work with.

I hear that. Honestly for as bad as he rode, getting out of there with an 8th isn't bad at all.
He kept crashing on the Honda and said the bike suked The Lawrences had no problem with it . He went to KTM and kept crashing on that and said the bike suked. Plessinger, Tomac, and Prado have no problems with it. He goes to Kawasaki and is crashing already... Any questions?
Bit of captian hindsight there was a interview before the race where he said he changed alot on the bike the week leading to the race, I thought to myself, oh boy here we go again.
I'm less and less a fan of any one rider anymore, as I get older. I'm more a fan of any rider's style and technique that stands out to me. But Chase has been my favorite for a while. Until he proves differently, we all know his problem. Its never the bike. It's between his ears and it's chasing the perfect setup.

He actually admitted the Honda wasn't that bad ... I think mid last year ?

Then throw his dad in the mix also....what a nightmare
I will start by saying I don’t know how to properly setup a bike. That being said I think part of the problem might be neither does Sexton. Daren Lawrence said they had to go in a completely different direction to setup the Honda after Sexton left. On KTM there was the shock issues. It was said what he was asking out of the shock was outside of it’s normal working range. When Keefer rode the HRC bikes it was Jett’s bike he raved about. Hopefully it was just nerves and he bounces back next week.

And he is the only rider ever, that has ended up in a situation like that with Team KTM. And when you're the only one of countless of riders, you're most likely the problem.
Same with HRC. He just left without any interaction after his last race for the team and the team was pretty bummed about it.
It’s like when he can’t ride a qualifying speed lap, he just can’t ride the bike at times. His bike is set up for going fast asf. He looked almost too fast for that track with the mistakes he was making (the heat race). And then when he did back it down, he just looked awkward and uncomfortable.
And then he is probably thinking about all the times he has blown races, so not to throw it away. It has to be a real mind f_ck to be in his position. Fastest guy on the track, but asking too much of the bike, grip, track.
Yes, he has put himself in that position. But a tough one to climb out of. Definitely keeps things interesting to watch. Would be boring if he figured it all out.

Or KTM was. Two sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle every time.

Reminds me of JS7 in a way.

Post a reply to: For the life of me I can't find Sexton's post race comments...
