Or at least show Kenny frame the triple as well if you’re going to show him instead of Deegan and Tomac battling 🤦‍♂️

Exactly

That dirt was a bit comparable to glendale no?  Arguably kennys favorite type of sx track, explains why he was extra crisp today

This track and the 3 450 mains were all amazing!! I missed  it live and only got to watch the 3 450 races  so far. I plan on rewatching the entire race tomorrow.

At first I was like ,that sucks the track is so dry, but then it looked like that helped the racing. The jumps looked steeper than normal and maybe that is what made the racing so good. The track wasn't like every other track. Steeper landings and more technical looking. everybody made mistakes and the track was safe and raced amazingly well.  I loved how inconsistent each start was too.

Kenny rode amazing,  Tomac , while he rode well looks like he's still learning the bike and not as confident as Kenny who is really gelling with his RMZ.   I've said it before and I'll say it again, Deegan learns so quickly.  That is the most impressive part of his riding is how he can learn so much so quickly. And then react to what he learned mid moto. He looked really good.

This is still an off season race and who knows how hard anybody was really pushing. So I really wouldn't take much away from it as far as what will happen in the SMX rounds. I like how the tracks have been different from AMA SX tracks.  This week a lot of steeper 90's and early 00's style jumps. I liked how it was technical enough that everybody made mistakes, but most only cost a small amount of time. Mayb the lack of ruts helped make for so many lines. Whatever it was, it was such a good track. WIth lots of passing possible.

They are doing a great job with the tracks and creating excitement around the series and the racing! If I didn't have a machine I rented to work on my own private riding spot , I would be rewatching it right now.

Anybody else think the track was about 3-4 feet wider everywhere and that contributed to the great racing?

I wish Deegs wouldn't do the look over, look back, slow down shit like he did in moto 2. I see Joey addresses it in his post race interview with Lewis

It was some good racing.  All the top contenders showed flashes of good form mixed with some ordinary moments.  As usual it’s hard to read much into these off season races.

I do have to ask though - why does Deegan look back so much?  It’s not the first time he’s done it.

It's like he's doing great, then goes into idiot mode and starts with the looking back blocking shit. I'm pretty sure he could have left Savatgy in the dust and he should have. He needed to just focus forward in that race and I believe he would have held onto 2nd. I think his pops may have had a word about it with him because he was completely different in the last race.  I think he'll do fine tho, just needs to contain the emotions a bit. He has the speed for just starting on the 450 imo. He brings a lot to the races.

Good joke, brian would congratulate him for doing such things. Just like after the smx final he said the track and the format is made for taking other riders out like in WWE. His dad is part of the reason he behaves the way he does on the track

Yeah, you're probably right, his dad doesn't care how he does in the race 🙄

Good joke

The Goldie had storms all week, so instead of building the track early and tarping it up like they do in the US, they left the majority of the dirt dry and outside of the stadium . Which made a lot of the international visitors nervous 😆 but then when the weather came good the smashed out the track build right before race day.

Building it with dry dirt and making it hard pack meant they could move all over the track, which created great racing. That and the slippery conditions where everyone made small mistakes.

I was at the event and that was some of the best 450 racing I have ever seen.

Tomac looked great for most of the day but was running the scoop and struggling in the whoops, it got worse in the last race had me thinking shock had let go.

Kenny was bloody amazing all night and that 4 way battle in race two was insane.

Deegan was having issues with other riders already, think he knocked Ando down in a race and had issues with Satvatcy too.

Ive never seen berms destroyed like it in my life Tomac was insane, he drifted from the last corner all the way down the straight with a monster rooster tail off the back wheel drifting, It was epic.

We have had weeks of storms so I guess why they hardly watered the track, I actually thought the track was terrible myself. Kenny made mention of it too.

Needed  more water and work to finish it off.

Well that was a bucket list for me last night, Tomac ☑️

Track was slick and dusty, not ideal for Tomac or Deegan type of riding style.

How many riders spun a donut coming out of a corner? I saw atleast 2.

Just finished watching all the races on YouTube with my morning coffee. My takeaways are, the track looked great for racing. Very well built and it's so refreshing seeing proper whoop sections at these WSX rounds. The way it should be for professional SX. Ralph was absolute garbage announcing. I knew he wasn't great, but he's been exceptionally bad at these last few rounds. Deegan impressed me. You can see the kid is having fun mixing it up with the big boys and learning a lot every time he's out there. Passing Tomac straight up in his second professional 450 race should quiet a lot of haters. Tomac did not look good. Not sure if they missed the mark on his KTM setup or what but he looked like he was struggling out there all night. Roczen just continues to be an all around beast. Craig looks solid on his Honda. Excited to see what he can continue to do on it. Great race overall

Tomac was slow through the whoops, maybe his shock?

Most likely they missing their mark with the gearing stemming from not having their normal race gas. When the gearing is off then getting through the whoops good can be challenging.

All these teams are having to make compromises and it sure looks like KTM missed their mark. That was not on Eli himself.

He was slowest through the whoops the last race, and it looked like he suffered gear selection or clutch issues in the second race. New bike, things to improve.

That was the best racing ive seen in years, all due to the track.

Every 450 moto had 4 guys in the same shot neck and neck.

Fantastic, that was a good product.

Yea hes done it with jordan smith, jo shimoda, cole davies, tom vialle…. Whenever he does it it always comes across douchey. Just ride forward. It ended up costing him cuz he washed the front focusing on whats behind him, just race fwd. Thats a bad habit he needs to break you dont see ANY of the top 450 guys ever ride like that. The only other guy in general is pro

If it was one 20 lap main it wouldn’t have been as exciting the format needs to be credited

Great racing, I was excited during all three 450 races, camera guys will get better. Track was hard & slippery, but that's ok, I'm sick of ruts, what amazed me was, no rider was running hard terrain tyres, an MX34 is NOT the go-to tyre after an MX14, AND so much for some of the worlds top riders not having enough experience to hunt for the traction, dirt track riders know to go for the cushion, that's where the traction is. And Deeg's, I've not been a fan in the past, this weekend he showed he is growing into a fine young man.

The format needs work as we watched skid steers move dirt 3 or 4 times for the night.

Superpole should be right after opening ceremonies to create a buzz.

3 wanker commentators were terrible just crapping on all the time,

Also needs a support class or two.

The whole event was over in 2.5 hrs or so.

Good SM content but 3 min highlights are too short for 6 races

The booth needs Rob Warner, get a Brit in there - a global broadcast shouldn’t just have Americans voices, shaheen is annoying, Blair - can’t fault his enthusiasm but he’s quite cringey and tries too hard. I actually really rate Emig.

Rob Warner Downhill commentator is exactly the energy the broadcast needs, he’s a huge mx fan and brings another accent to the programme, and no longer commentates for downhill just some redbull events.

For those who haven’t heard him https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KMJTnB-50zE&pp=ygUVcm9iIHdhcm5lciBjb21tZW50YXJ5

Agree the 450s racing is as good as I’ve seen for a very long time!

We got the early entry tickets and watched practice, qualifying and superpole. It was good and I would definitely do it again. I think if you’re up for it (early entry) it’s definitely better and it keeps the show focussed on racings for the fans with less time or families with young kids. I think the amount of maintenance also helped keep the track multi-lined enough, rather than deteriorating into a single lined track. The whoops were nasty, big, far apart and super hard.

There needs to be more access to riders and pits though, we didn’t do the 2pm fanzone, I wish we did though because they didn’t open the pits again for the night. The AusX rounds there were so many riders around to get autographs most of the night but we couldn’t get one last night.

Overall it was an unreal night, I’d like to know the crowd numbers it would have been close to a sellout, less than 1,000 seats empty I reckon. The 450 races were so good all night. Crowd was going nuts in the first 450 race when the 4 of them came across the whoops together, it was so good, I don’t think the TV did it justice.

The format definitely helps keep it exciting, it might not meet the core fan expectations but it’s perfect for bringing a light field to new markets and making a great show of it. I imagine that would have to have been one of the most successful rounds they have hosted though.

I’d like to see the ama tracks get a little less ruttfest and a little more towards this prep.. obviously with a bit more moisture but not chopped up to crap.. I feel the hard pack lends itself to more intense racing..

That track is exactly what's missing from the series over here,  dry, very tricky, real whoops.  A nice change from the standard ama prep of the exact same conditions round after round.

Corners were tricky,  very easy to make mistakes everywhere.

100% agree. The WSX tracks this season have been really, really good.

This is the major drawback with American SX and MX too. The tracks are so similar, everything is built to a predetermined spec. It's booring.

I'm interested to know what tyres everyone was using on the night, do Dunlop make hard terrain (MX71) tyres anymore? I think Pirelli do? Would the Euro riders have the benefit of Pirelli exposure?

I saw it live (haven't been to a live supercross in ages) and it was pretty terrible. The audio at Robina stadium is awful. Possibly the worst stadium in the area. You could barely converse or hear the bikes over the local announcer who was non-stop tying to hype of the crowd. Not sure if they do this in the USA, but after a while all you do is rile up the drunks. And given it was humid AF, plenty of folks were drinking just to stay cool. In some areas they even ran out of bottled water.

As for the actual racing, pretty good. The track was simple but had heaps of options for passes. The track was pretty dry, and they could have thrown down a bit more water across the start straight(s) too. Every 2 races they would bring the machines out... and aside from the start area I didn't think it needed that much work.

I wish Deegs wouldn't do the look over, look back, slow down shit like he did in moto 2. I see Joey addresses it in his post race interview with Lewis

Yes, that track was definitely a lot wider and it opens lines up.l and contributed to the awesome racing we all enjoyed.

This is something that the US track builders need to look at.

Yup, another thing to be addressed.

Even at the US SX series. I've been to some where the music and commentary is ungodly loud and quickly becomes an irritation....you just sit there and suck it up.

A sweet balance between commentary and hearing the bikes is what we need.

I have a WSX subscription to watch on demand. It's lovely and worked like a charm BUT the commentary was overwhelming and I could barely hear the bikes which sucks.

I was just watching the F1 race. It hit me WSX does their picture in picture the exact same way F1 does it. Like everyone else in here has said, Feld needs to be taking notes because it’s way better this way.

I am interested what Deegan did to make you think he is now a fine young man? His immaturity caused himself to crash in race 2 (lesson not learnt from SMX) .
