And what made it stand out from every other set up?
For me, it was on my 2018 YZ 250, set up by an Ohlins shop (although it was the stock KYB stuff). It was almost impossible to bottom out, and was pretty comfortable on the small chop. I gained a lot of front end traction on corners and on the rear end during acceleration.
It was easily some of the best money ever spent on my bike. The stock fork set up would bottom out badly, to the point of making my wrists hurt after some motos.
What's the best suspension set up you have ever ridden?

Well set up SSS, the perfect stock suspension IMO
That sounds like an awesome set up
My friends yz 250f (early 2000s). I think it had Enzo sub tanks and im not sure what else done to it. Way better than anything I ever had. It was the setup, because I had bikes with really good components.
Any bike that I ever rode prior to learning about suspension and proceeding down that dark hole of Subjective Magic😊🤣🤔

Dark secret magic. Don’t tell the secrets!!!!
A JCR/Pro Circuit Showa suspended 2023 CRF450X and a JCR/Pro Circuit 2024 CRF450R w/ A Kit.
Twas AMAZING.
Hopefully this KYB stuff I just bought of Sextons dad that supposedly was on Chases practice bike.
Sooo true.
Currently on a setup done by some older guy named Brett and it’s flat out amazing
2004 YZ250 with 2007 SSS forks and 2007 shock. If you think they're good on the modern bike, try them on a steel frame.😃
The best suspension I have ever felt was on my 2009 YZ450. All stock suspension and it was amazing. Felt like I had pillows wrapped around my grips. So plush and would not bottom. Good stuff.
I’ve had at least a dozen full suspension setups from the big name companies and nothing was as good as my stock 2009 YZ450.
94 RM125. A friend's bike that I spun a few laps on at Swan. It was so much better than my YZ I didn't want to give it back. He swore it was stock. It was perfect. Soaked up the square edge chop and flat landings like they weren't there.
I have Enzo KYB SSS conversion kit with National tubes on my 2024 KTM 500 and it’s vet plush to max. I can still hit all the jumps on the National track at Pala and rip the desert. It’s amazing.
2024 kx450 stock with stiffer springs for my weight, and 7cc added to each fork leg. Slowed the rebound some front and rear, increased high speed on shock, and get rid of the 120 mx34 on the rear for a 110 from Hoosier or Pirelli.
After those changes, that bike handled so consistently, so predictable, I had so much confidence to overjump and even flatland so many jumps.
Cornering was amazing, could take any line, and never searched track to track. It just freaking worked.
2006 yz125 with rg3 setup for offroad. UNREAL!
1981 RM125. It was stock and lightyears better than anything I’d ever ridden before to include an Ohlins shocked 1980 RM125. Not sure I’d feel the same if ridden today, but in its time, it was magic!
1996 YZ250 done by Rick Zeilfelder himself from Factory Connection. First time on the bike I did an hour long moto before I stopped to set the sag, it was that good.
KYB kit shock and KYB kit PSF1 forks. Have had 3 sets on 3 different bikes. All by Enzo. Amazing every time and nothing else like it but suspension is subjective.
Pit Row
I’m not sure if it was the best suspension I’ve ever ridden, but I think it was the most improved over stock where I felt the biggest improvement. 2004 RM250 tuned by RG3. Night and day difference! The bike went from wildly unpredictable on takeoffs and hard landings to straight as an arrow and predictable. That was a super fun bike, and believe it or not would eat up 4 strokes of that era.
2023 MC450 FE with Ohlins from some shop in Ohio. Couldn't feel a single bump out on the track, it was incredible.
My son's 2007 CR125 after the Race Tech treatment (springs/valving) performed by a local Race Tech shop, Route 15 Cycles. Very plush and resistant to bottoming.
Felt the same way. Coming off a 92 and 93 RM 125, the first time I rode a ‘94 with the new Twin Chamber fork (bike was also valved by Pro Circuit) I was amazed at how much better it was….felt like you could charge and flat land, hit things so much harder..
07 crf450
RG3 everything
Saved me more than a few times.
I loved mine as well. Way ahead of its time.
I kinda think I’d still feel that way riding a fresh one today. But I could be wrong.
Going way back to 07,a stock RM 450 Carmicheal edition.Just set sag, played with clickers and go.Had that heavy/dead damped feel.Predictable, stable,no harshness and excellent bottoming resistance in every condition you could throw at it.Still haven't found that exact feel since.Might have just been a personal preference that I really jived with but even after many bikes after that I still speak of that suspension as the best I have ridden.
Enzo kit kyb yz250f
KPS suspension out of farmingdale nj. Mickey Kessler’s shop. I brought him a 2007 rmz450 that he did front and back crazy good, subtle yet didn’t bottom. Keep the great turning of that bike but took the twitchy straight line out . Very reasonable price
I have one that I ride for vintage moto. The suspension stock feels extremely soft and rides low in the stroke, but with a heavier spring on the shock and forks it's very good, even with stock valving and Maxima "medium" weight shock fluid! Same on the 250 of all full-floater years.
My bone stock '23 YZ250 for about the first 15hrs of ride time.
2022 Husky 450. Active Ride built me some KYB forks and we had that bike insanely good. We’ve made some good setting over the years across many different bikes. But I think that was the best we ever had. Definitely the best I’ve ever ridden
