Speaking of the Coenen brothers, "They take responsibility. The don't make excuses. They say, 'We will learn and get better'." Something to that effect...
Sounds a bit like a dig at Sexton and a warning to Prado? Maybe I'm reading more into it than is there? Thoughts, flames? Rolloffs loaded. Have at it.
ur reading to much into it brotha , im pretty sure wht ever going on with prado & chase is none of their concern , they only focused on wht they got going on in their own camp
I sensed much the same when I listened to Roger’s interview. Subtle nuisances of wisdom and food for thought~~ for sure!
Yep....RD was hinting at chase at several times in the interview 4sure!!
He pretty much said you're not going to find a setting on the bike to beat Jett, you need to get up earlier in the morning.

can you at least provide a link so we know what you are talking about?
Just letting all young kids know that 98% of the case it isn't the bike, the gloves, boots, track, ... it is the man in the mirror that is the reason for failure.
Extreme Ownership
Did he happen to say anything about why vialle’s shock blows out every 15 minutes & sexton has to swap shocks between every moto? But both Coenen’s shocks have no issues?
Roger, you’re telling me that KTM North America is not responsible for that?
https://youtu.be/42RHTlCpOTc?si=w78XfkAT4cDJieVX
Yes he is 100% talking about Sexton wanting bike changes to overcome skill
Strange that another crash for a Ktm because Iron man surface jammed the rear brake. wtf is with that lol
It's interesting for sure. Different brake assembly in Europe? You would think they could figure it out. Has anyone had problems with their stock rear locking up on late model bikes?
I'm 64 and feeble minded. Links and memes don't rate high on my list of 'must' accomplishments. Sorry about me.
DeCoster crashed so hard that he destroyed his spleen, forcing its removal, then came back and won his first race back. No wonder the dude doesn't tolerate wimps. It's not the bike.
I'd bet money that every bike that DeCoster threw a leg over in his days of chasing world championships was perfect...and yet he still dominated every other rider in the world more than a few times to win his titles. Roger knows a thing or two about being "in it to win it" no matter what the glitches in the bike or team are.
what advice would you give Chase to compete with Jett?
”…not expect that you’re team can compensate for the talent that he has”
“Take responsibility…don’t expect someone else to fix it for you”
This is just a paraphrase but this interview for sure pertains to chase. His comments are respectful but telling IMO
Roger has been consistent on this through the years so i do not see this as a rare targeted comment.
He used to say it about Dungey too. At some point you have to ride the bike you have and quit chasing your tail.
The fact of the matter is, unless you have Jett Lawrence on your team, then your top 450 rider is going to drive you berserk trying to squeeze everything possible out of the bike in hopes of beating Jett. He's the best we've ever seen next to Ricky. If your top guy isn't going nuts about every possible detail, I'd say that's a bigger problem. I don't think you can just bulldog your way to beating Jett.
Love Roger and his words hold true……up until a certain point.
Let’s not forget that the Honda team leave no stone unturned in their efforts to constantly improve their bikes. The season’s just finished and they’re still testing this week. Any other teams doing that?
Another thing to consider is that the Coenens are from Roger’s home country and their next great hope at Belgium climbing back to the top of des nations. Of course there’s going to be a little bias in his views, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
If Decoster has words about Chase, I wonder what he has to say about Prado.
Pit Row
Agree, could list when he would talk about TP199 and his racing career.
That is a very good point.
If Roger has told guys like Dunge and Sexton that they just need to quit chasing their tail and ride the bike....imagine what The Man will have to say next year.
Kinda ironic that Roger was involved in O mara leaving team Honda.... and that O mara advises Jett and his Brother. Would be interesting to listen to those two sitting down at a table alone.
A 250 rider will find that out when he moves up to the 450s.
It’ll be interesting to see what Roger has to say about working with Tomac next year. Eli basically refuses to make excuses but it seems like he’s pretty picky about bike setup too. He’s also really hard on equipment which Roger might not be a big fan of.
I do not know where all the Sexton hate comes from, he always complements the team and his mechanic while placing the blame on himself. Not once in the last two years did he say anything negative about the bike his mechanic or the team. He put the bike on the podium, won SX races and a 450 National championship on the bike.
I'll translate.
Chase didn't take responsibility, Fraud-o better take responsibility.
Yep, he’s the only one willing to pile drive himself into the ground trying to beat Jett yet he’s some bum that doesn’t deserve the bike he’s riding…is this the same RD that drove the 250 team into mediocrity and then when they had no 450 guys gave Dungey and TC crap that they weren’t trying hard enough when they came out of retirement to put KTM into the top 5?
We'll have to wait for Tomac on this KTM platform, especially after they accused Sexton of going too fast, which caused the bike to fail... imagine what Tomac will face in terms of speed, hahaha
Without a doubt, he'll want to use the full KYB suspension.
I've been a Decoster fan since he rode for Suzuki in the 70's. But lets stop making him out to be a motocross god, and acting like everything he says is the gospel.
He's had his share of mistakes and team failures. And I don't agree with every single thing he says.
All that said, Prado better do a total 180 from his time at Kawi. RD won't tolerate that at all.
I have found this to be true in most things in life. Refreshing and unsurprising DeCoster would say this. It has served him extremely well in life. It reminds me of something RC said in a documentary about him as he was getting off a stationary bike dripping with sweat. He said, “A lot of people SAY they want it, but when it really comes down to it at the end of the day, they don’t REALLY want it.”
Erm...
"not perfect"?
