Jeremy speaks...

Aldon Baker left James for a reason.... in RV's corner. MC was great in the video.

Jeremy says "Chad will never have a good as good as the bike behind him" ???

Didn't Windham ride with STOCK suspension last year ?

Townley seem to do just fine when he wasn't on the ground

Kyle Regal need I say more

I know Jeremy is just pimping the source of his pay check but come on

Its not just about having parts at your disposal...

An established team like Honda would have more test riders and engineers/opinions to pool together and more man hours to dedicate to finding a good setup overall....

I think Reed can do it, but what Jeremy was basically saying was that its a real serious balancing act being the manager and the rider too. It's hard and Reed has got his work cut out for him, i hope he does well and has the right people working with him because i want to see him on the box this year.

Seems that Pourcel will not risk his health for low paycheck.

Reed is not a dumb business man, there must be an angle? We didn't find out about the Lloyds of London policy until late in the season.

Exactly.

I was surprised how honest, controlled but honest, he was with his comments about Reed and Christophe Pourcel. He didn't sugar coat it.

So, he's not a fan of Pourcel!

Pourcel has some experience in this regard.

Yeah, I thought about that also.

I'm guessing he also means that you have to have the right 10 or 12 other people working on the team to support the riders - managers, mechanics, PR, trainers, etc.

Doing it alone like Reed is going to do is not the same, and MC should know from personal experience.

Who knows. If Reed makes it work in 2011, he's going to look like a fucking genius. If he fails, he'll look like a chump. The old "Love and Hate is just a shot away" type of sentiment.

MC has never been the type of icon to talk shit about other riders like that. That was a quality that I really liked about him.

Some of the biggest Primma donnas in this sport, are the old stars, that are always talking about how they did this, and they did that, and todays guys have no heart bla bla bla. They sound like some fat unhappy nobody that want to talk about their old high school football days.

Talk shit? He was asked how he felt James and Chad would do this year. In regards to James he stated that he thought his record might be safe as he didn't feel he would win races at the same rate he had previously. It's his opinion, nothing more nothing less and it's what he was asked for by the interviewer.

Move on.

That may be true about some old stars in this sport, but it is NOT true of McGrath as a rule, and is certainly not true in this video.

Stewart himself has said the his target is McGrath's record of 72 supercross wins. After being in the sport for as long as he has, with the breadth of experience he has (on AND off the track), McGrath is in a unique position to comment on and/or question the likelyhood of someone eclipsing his record.

I found his honesty and openness extremely refreshing. To me, he did NOT sound (or look) like a "fat unhappy nobody" talking about his old days. And when coupled with his unquestionable expertise in the sport, it made for an awesome video.

If Jeremy did line up and race at a SX this year what number would he run since RV2 has his 2 now?

True, up to the point where RC showed up.
Throughout his career MC was head and shoulder above the rest of the field. RC started beating him, MC retired, and then RC had to work pretty hard to keep guys like DV, Chad, and JS behind. To me that says something about the level of the competition RC had to face.
There is no denying the huge impact MC had on SX. These days I don't see anybody else getting 7 championships. It's not going to happen.
But the baddest dude in my mind is RC. He was able to win after the mechanics of being fast on an SX track had been well understood and talented kids grew up practicing them.

I think Jeremy is wrong about JAmes. A healthy Stewart will play with everyone, including Dungey.

Stewart was about 2 seconds a lap faster at 100% than Dungey the last time they raced each other in SX. That combined with one hell of a determination and motivation he must have after taking so much undeserved flak from "fans".... This is going to get ugly!

I don´t disagree with MC on most of his comments, but I think he´s playing head games with JS to keep his own record. He has to remember that today the riders actually train. They don´t party at Lake Havasu in their spare time, and James´s competition doesn´t smoke weed on a regular basis (except for Jlaw, but he´s not a competing much anyway). Times have changed, but James has the field covered and he is the most likely rider to beat the record in the next 5 years

MC was the King, but he had his peak at the right time. There is no way he would have 72 SX wins if he raced during the "training era" of RC and JS.
Prove it! I want to see the sx lap time showing 2 seconds more raw speed...if I remember correct RD was 2 tenths off of James went back to the semi clicky clicky and was actually slightly faster than a healthy James...As for RV coming alive and winning some races guess what he did that same thing to James when James was on top of his game in 09.

I think the King has been around a long enough time and knows how to read a lap time and compare- James raised the bar and now the level is being lifted by the hungry- thats what happens-

I don't know if anyone listened to the podcast a few weeks back but when matthes ask Tim Ferry about being out at the Honda test track with Trey and Jeremy being there he asked him how was Jeremys speed now in comparison to Treys.Timmy said MC was probably only 1 to 1.5 seconds off of Treys.Yeah i know thats about 10 positions in a 20 lap main but still point being for 37 years young he could still qualify and probably finish in top 10 at an Anaheim round no doubt.

and if he really tried and trained for race he could most likely cut that in half- I imagine Trey has front runner speed- too (w/in 4-tenths)

The way the vid was edited didn't let us in on the question leading up to his record statement. It would be intersting to see an unedited vid. IMHO, Stewart won't be able to stay off the ground long enough to win 73 SX races.

I am surprised you guys don't remeber this but James was interviewed last year maybe end of 09 coming into sx they asked about his goals and he said something to the effect that he was afteer MC's win record- he felt that if he could win 13 a year it would be done in 2012..or something like that- James painted a bulls eye on MC's records and so maybe that is why he responded to it-....anyone have a link- i know its out there somewhere- It was back when James could win 13 in a season..hence MC's reference to the different times
It was one of his interviews with matthes in a podcast, not sure which one. I think your right, it was fall of 09 cook.

I think he said something to the effect of, "That record will fall"

Matthes may remeber........or maybe I am wrong.

Fan of both MC and James, that said I do not think James can get that record.

Totally agree but i don't expect to see it anytime soon.MC has too many other things going on in his life right now and i don't see him taking that big of risk for a one off race but who knows. I would still like to see it though. I remember the first time i got to see MC race a SX in person was back in 96 at the Indy SX and from that day on i was a true fan of his style no doubt!

How come nobody is bitching about McGrath running the #2, when it belongs to RV? I remember not too long ago some ass clowns ready to lynch Stewart for not peeling the #1 off of his bikes the second he was not champion anymore.

That video depicts a motocrosser who has become a wise businessman along the way. If you were paying attention, class is in session. Here's the take-away:

He's owned his own gig----yet he just signed with a new off-road team...and he presumably doesn't 'test' Honda's for free. The man still CASHES checks from multiple third parties--on his own terms. His ego doesn't require him to be the guy scratching checks out to others (and covering any shortfall with his own dough). Pay attention boys and girls. This is the new killing it.....

Dude's living life squarely with his wheels firmly on the rails---at full speed. And, he isn't tweeting about it daily. Full respect.
Dude....you said it perfectly!

I never ever thought McGrath would be somewhat underrated after his career was done, but I do feel like he doesn't get enough respect nowadays. He is the greatest SX rider ever, by far. James is not going to touch his records...I will be shocked if he can match Ricky's SX ones.

I think McGrath's points were all spot on, the man knows of what he speaks.

He looks great on the bike too. The guy is pushing 40 and I have absolutely no doubt he could still be very competitive out there if he applied himself.

God damn Jim.....I've always dug your posts and thoughts , but man , you are coming off as a "Debbie downer" here. You heard MC state that he thought his record was safe from James grasp......what's the big deal? Jesus Christ .....the guy has earned the right to speak his mind on certain subjects. besides the fact....James himself opened that door last year when he mentioned that he thought he could beat MC's record.

By the way....I aint harping on you or trying to start any crap , i'm just sayin' you seem to have a slight grudge against MC for speaking his mind a little.

McGrath is retired from AMA Pro racing, if he wants to put a #1 or #2 or #125 on his bike he has every right the same way DV12 has 12 on his bikes. Two seperate things. However, James is #1 in SX for 2010 and has every right to have it on his bike until the end of the year. Stewart does lots of things for people to talk shit about him but running #1 in the year he earned it for is not one of them. However out of respect there should have been a little more thought put into pictures used by advertisers.
