MXoN is a Joke of a race

Want the U.S. not to have an advantage? Do it by state. There are still some STRONG teams that can be made from that. Florida, Texas, California, Washington, Minnesota and Colorado would all be damn good teams still. While I don't agree with it, it would make the racing a lot better and much more unpredictable. It goes against everything the event was made for though.

To not see the top 10 of American racers is a complete joke. Think of all the guys who DIDN'T get to race because of the skewed system on MXoN teams.

Its time to change the format. Start a points system that rewards the entire years racing so the top 12-15 guys qualify. Allow 2-4 or 6 captains picks. Bubba races (as a captains pick), Morais races, Wiemer races, Alessi races.... the list goes on and ON. wake up people!

Next.... fund the damn thing. Allow the top american's (based on whole year points system) race against the top non-americans (also whole year points) stop the country madness!

Lining up one country, belguim or spain or italy or england against the American depth is a complete joke. Absolute joke. Wake the hell up.

Make this race mean something. Line 20 top Americans against 20 top NON-AMERICANS, and lets go at it.

Wake up!! This race in it's current form is a laugh fest. Only a true idiot would cheer this "AMERICAN" win.
Calm down, I wasn't giving a history lesson. I was pointing out that America has produced some of the best riders, year after year.

I think an AMA vs FIM world championship race would be cool but not to replace the MXON. The MXON is national pride. The AMA vs FIM would be which org has better riders.

I will tell you from the events I have attended the MXON does seem like US vs everyone else. The Euros would band together and cheer anyone that was not American doing well. But thats ok, it still is a fun race and when a European team wins is it reallly something for them to celebrate. America is expected to win.

I get tired of this pithy excuse about how America is bigger and more populated. Dungey dominated this year, just like a few years ago Villopoto dominated, just like a few year before that RC dominated, just like years before that Bailey, Johnson, and O'Mara dominated. American consistently produces top-notch racers that are the best in the world. Maybe it's our amateur system, maybe it's supercross, maybe it's our mindset, maybe it's a combination of those and some more. Whatever it is, this whole world vs America is silly because we can still win.

Take a Dungey, Villopoto, and Canard (or Stewart) and you have a team that can win anywhere and anytime. The reason America does so well is because America produces great riders. Period.

You must be pretty short sighted if you can't see how certain factors such as population are stacked strongly in America's favour.

Take a Dungey, Villopoto, and Canard (or Stewart) and you have a team that can win anywhere and anytime.

Pick a team of 3 from
Cairoli
Reed
Pourcel
Desalle
Roczen
Musquin
Metcalfe

...and you'd have a team that would give them a damn good run for their money.
You must be short-sighted if you don't see that population is simply a statistic that can be played with. "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" Truer words have never been spoken. Take China, for example. They are much more populated than many countries, so why aren't they winning? In part, because the percentage of their population that rides dirt bikes is comparatively smaller than other countries with smaller populations. Taking a general population and saying that we have a larger population to pull from is nonsense since it ignore demographics. We actually only pull from two or three states each year.

Very rarely do I see the Euro's give America credit for winning. It's always something..."Come to our rougher tracks..."; "Didn't have a lot of practice time..."; "America is bigger..."; etc., etc.

The climate around here after last Saturday, after Cairoli won his qualifier, was that he was faster, the 350 was the best bike, he beat Dungey on a 350 no less...then, after Sunday, all the sudden, Cairoli has breathing problems and is on an underpowered bike!

Wouldn't matter really in the MXON you have Americans riding for Puerto Rico, so it would end up each state would get to choose which team members. So what you would have is Calif having Dungey, Stewart, and Villopoto, Colorado would have Grant, Short, Stroup and so on and so forth. We are a nation. Same reason Wilson can ride for Great Britan.

MXO NATIONS, US is a nation, If we did this, we would have to divide up small countries like Belgium or even France into their territoris and for them to send people only from a specific territory and it would be the MXOTerriroies of nations.

Most Euro countries have a bout 50-60 million people. You could possible divide up the US into 6 sub nations, that might make it more fair as the areas would be divided up into population groups. But again, it would not be MXON.

None of the solutions presented here compensate for the US haveing the fastest riders on the planet. Taking the US and sending representitives from each state would only push out most of the smaller Europena countries. Again it would be US with just under 50 teams against Europe Just live with the current system and hope US does poorly and if Europ country wins, great celebration. The same thing happens in Olympics. Could be population, or wealth, government support, or country interest that makes them better.

Also would you say the Olympics is a joke? Same thing happens there. MXON is what it is. 3 riders that represent their country. Good format but not always fair. Not fair that Short was taken out but rubbin is racin, may not be fair but thats the way it is.

If you really feel that strongly about it, gather up your money, get a organization together and create your own FIM vs AMA race and try to get riders to attend. Frankly I am suprised that the MXON works as well as it does and that AMA and FIM riders and teams spend the money to cross the pond.

One Country of many states.

Not a Union of Nation States.

There's the answer.

Home state based on your birth certificate. No more no less. Let the teams decide who within their state goes. It will never happen though. That means it would be the states responsibility to help fund riders if they did not want to. It would be a blast to watch from a unpredictability standpoint but like I said, it goes against everything the event was founded on. A country pulling together as a team to win a race.

I havent read all three pages of this thread but after seeing the title of this one, along with a bunch of others i've seen this week, i'm starting to think shit-stirring is a new competition that just started on this board and i just missed the memo or some shit (no pun intended)

You must not have been at Unadilla in '87, Budds Creek in '07, or Thunder Valley last weekend. None of the three MXdN in the US have been lacking for fans. From what I can gather from the internet and magazines, the European MXdN aren't lacking for fans either. Where did you come up with the idea that more fans need to attend or the race is going away?

Why suddenly are the top 20 Americans the only riders you think the world wants to see?
Apart from Dungey, Canard , Villopoto, Short, Barcia etc, there isn't a lot of depth in US motocross at the moment, which is why the national top ten, particularly in the lites class is dominated by imported riders.
It is a WORLD Team championship and yes a lot of countries don't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but they have every right to be there!
Stick to watching WWF, NASCAR and Baseball World Series if all you are interested in is seeing homegrown talent.
Not alot of American talent?

Hmm, lets see... Ryan Dungey, Ryan Villipoto, James Stewart, Blake Bagget, Eli Tomac, Justin Barcia, Broc Tickle, Mike Alessi, Kyle Regal, Kyle Chisolm, Ivan Tadesco, Kevin Windham, Andrew Short, Josh Grant, Grant Langston, Josh Hansen, Jake Weimer, the list goes on and on.

I do have to say, if it was AMA vs GP, i think the AMA would in the MX1 and MX2... Both classes are stacked if were doing AMA vs GP riders... Because then the AMA would have all the fast foreign riders like Dean Wilson, Pourcel, etc on our side...

Ask the guys sitting at home that should be racing. The MXoN tradition is exposed for the fraud it is in the current world... every year.

American dominance, year in year out, depends on the lack of depth on a country by country basis. Townley taking down Short is the only way to give the non-americans a chance. My-oh-My... as an american, YUCK!! This race... In It's current form is a JOKE!

I see nothing to cheer as an American. American depth beating up poor... poor latvia. WOW!!! Let me wrap myself in a flag. This year is nothing more than a Dungey parade lap. Everyone watching and hoping his bike doesn't quit or he doesn't fall down. YUCK!!!

This race is a JOKE!
Wow, you are a tool!

Went to the even this year and it was by far the best sporting event I have ever attended. The suspense and excitement blows everything else out of the water. 100x more exciting than any national or supercross I have ever attended. If you have never been, you really can't comprehend I guess.

So much more than just a national or one of those silly supercrosses, and I have been to plenty of those.
Agreed, that it was one of the best races that I have ever been to. Who in the hell needs to add half a field of US riders. Just think of how more competetive it would have been if RV and JS were health. What about Reed, Pourcel, and other international riders that were out. I think that the format works and is no joke.

"Cocaine's a helluva drug!"

And some of you mus' be on it!

MXoN rocked. You DID see most of OUR top 10 riders...Camard,BT, Regal, Shorty, Dungey, WIlson, Metty...etc.

I'm jus' sayin'...
Exactly!

Consider "OUR" being the AMA.

Look again at the results. I only replied because of all the bullshit about "lack of depth of the AMA vs. the GPs"

Country is irrelevant with most of the poster's arguments since the GP clan sees the race as the "GPs vs. the AMA" anyway. I.E. the world vs. America.

The AMA guys shined, regardless of country of origin. OUR riders (AMA riders) did quite well for themselves.

But I guess we lack depth...

From 1994 to 2004 the US teams won only twice!

The only thing I would change is to have it three classes again.

125/250/open

Wanna add a cool twist?

How about having a mini (80) class?!

80/250/Open Now that would add some drama with the kids!

So if the OP reason was implemented earlier in the MXdN history then team GB would have 20 riders Vs a rest of the world ,because they won 15 of the first 20 MXdN thus were the dominating country, except times have changed and will change again.
As for funding the whole thing every year i would expect all the other countries would welcome that with open arms, i don't expect it would cost much to transport 30 countries riders, bikes, equipment and personal. gulp!!

Calm down kid. You are ranting about a exhibition race that does not matter!!!!!!

True Story!!!

Next.... fund the damn thing.

A race that doesn't matter to you.

It amazes me this is not obvious. It's a lousy race. The drama is completely manufactured, with nationalism run amok. People are blinded that a real contest COULD be waged. I don't take anything away from Dungey-Short-Canard. The form of this race is a joke, and those who support it are wasting thier money, year in-year out.

Only dolts and idiots think this is a real American victory.

Why not make it a real contest? Level the playing field. Top 20 (or so) Americans vs top 20 non Americans in a series of knock-out motos. Nationalism is served, American fair play is served, MX racing is served.

Without it? Count me out, it's a FARCE!!! Only stupid people think this was a real contest.
Beside the traditional aspects i totally agree with phlewy. You have to search very hard to find the excitement with the current format. Team USA is just too strong.

I enjoy the individual battles and seeing top ama vs top FIM. I don't even follow the team scores. I would like to see a real outdoor/motocross championship, but if that were to happen MXON in it's current form wouldn't co exist.

Someday there will be just one supreme motocross championship in the world, like SX already is. Motocross is not a teamsport, and YS/MX sports can't deny us a real championship forever, the sponsors will demand something better.

The overwhelming feeling I had all weekend...the top 10 guys on the track in any of the 3 motos run, would be the top 10 guys on any piece of dirt they were racing on. Period. MXoN 2010 was he best race I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of races in 40 years in the sport.
