Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
Yeah i'm all for it, implement it starting 2026 if possible!
I just fear that the availablity of the products might not be there to supply the demand for it? But 2027 should be the very latest when these airbag chest protectors should be mandatory.
I thought about the availability as well, but I still believe it should be implemented as soon as possible.
Any updates on the expected cost of the air bag chest protectors?
Might need to mandate IV stations at about 4 spots on the track at the same time, with mandatory minimum 20 bags of ringers lactate at each station.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. What kind of breathability do those air bag chest protectors have? Hangtown and Red Bud in the middle of summer is going to be brutal.

Thanks, I agree with the $10 head comment, but that is pricing it out of reach for most. Maybe with years of development the cost will come down.
Looking at the details a little closer, and I'm not sure if that's the one designed for MX. "Tech-Air® Off-Road comes with 3 Riding Modes; ENDURO, RALLY, AND STREET"
Is there a different model, not available for sale yet, that a few of the guys were using in SX this year?
I think they are still working out the activation logic for the mx one. I don’t think it will be cheaper. You also have to send them back for service after 4 inflation events I believe. A two shot replacement inflation charge is $170. I don’t think the cost is feasible to make it mandatory at this point.
Now requiring a ce level 1 or 2 is certainly feasible.
Once you get an IV, you can't race the rest of the day if you get it on race day or something like that.
@cwel11 what did you end up getting? I'm on a few nights of the tossing/turning myself for my 14 y/o son. Looking at the A-Stars A-5 Plasma but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Wonder how many guys saying they cost too much are running an exhaust that cost just as much? Would rather spend money on shiny parts to make more power they won't use instead of something that might save their life. That's a priority issue, not a cost issue.
Exactly.. I am already borderline passing out here in AZ without more heavy protection. There's always a tradeoff between protection and the unfortunate negative side effects. At some point, you can be so protected that the limited mobility and/or extra heat retention will actually CAUSE you to crash. The cure becomes worse than the disease, likelihood vs. severity, etc.
The leatt 4.5 evo. Seemed like a good balance of protection and not being too bulky or hot. He’s headed to Loretta’s and heat is definitely a concern so we’ll see. Won’t have it until Friday but can post our thoughts when in hand and after a ride.
Yes there is a MX specific model coming out, the off-road model has been available for a long time now and is not really designed to MX racing.
I'm pretty familiar with all the Alpinestars airbag systems and i'm pretty sure the MX version will be cheaper than the off-road version.
If Aiden’s parents spoke with all the riders in the race, why are there several unanswered questions and conflicting reports about the crash and aftermath?
Maybe those racers gave conflicting reports? Eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable.
EMX and Euros in general have chest protection mandatory for couple years. Not just stone protectors but proper ones. They are not as comfort or light but its better for everyones safety.
Pit Row
Probably some, but not me. I run stock exhaust unless I damage one. Only mods on my bikes are gearing and number plates. I spend the extra cash on tires and gas.
No f ing way would I wear that 88 -93 & muggy haha no Thx. You,d probably get so hot you,d pass out cross lanes & hit a rider head on. I wear a HRP it does a great job 450 clay roost you don’t feel it .
Exactly! There have been many studies that show that people can be completely confident that they remember something exactly as it happened yet be surprisingly mistaken - even in ideal circumstances. In this case what they witnessed was both traumatic and happened quickly. Trauma does weird things to the brain. I’ve witnessed a fatal motorcycle accident involving a good friend and have experienced the troubling and disorienting effects. It’s not as straightforward as memory recording the event exactly as it happened and you simply access it as needed. From the impact of stress and stress hormones on the brain to difficulties distinguishing between what we actually saw vs what we imagined (this is a very real thing - if we don’t see or process all of the event our brain will fill in the gaps with what it expects would be there - and we have no idea this is happening). Our brains aren’t passively recording events - they’re actively interacting with them to construct what we perceive and remember.
If they just learned of Aidan’s passing, they would probably have been speaking while an the initial stage of shock, which can be very disorienting. I seriously doubt anyone is lying. They just don’t remember it the same way.
This is why you never say anything to the cops. Mixing up even small details can become a big deal later on and the human brain isn't wired for perfect recall
I spoke with someone who has at least some definitive knowledge about Aidan's parents understanding of the events. Aidan's parents know what happened based on their conversations with the racers. I don't really think much more needs to be said here, quite honestly. It's a tragic situation.
The conflicting reports come from the race promoter and team manager(s) either misrepresenting what happened and/or an unwillingness to talk about what happened at all.
I can only surmise that is in an effort to protect the names of others involved, and to protect the outside perception of the sport. The industry has always recoiled away from anything that casts a negative light on the sport. In a way, I can understand.
I'm afraid though, being resistant will only force the mainstream media to dig in further. My advice to those in the industry would be to get your talking points straight, and be willing to talk. The media isn't going away.
Rest assured, I was given the impression Aidan's parents know what happened.
Thanks for clarifying. If multiple eyewitnesses agree, then they can be pretty confident that they know what happened. I can't imagine what they're going through, but the angst of not knowing what happened is certainly not something they need to add to their grief.
Are you serious? This occurred at a sanctioned event in front of spectators. So, unless you want all forms of motocross racing to cease then changes need to be made in regards to rider safety.
It might come down to the insurance carrier requiring promoters implement certain safety gear at races in order to get coverage. You would hate for it to have to come to this before changes are made.
