The whole alternate think is a bit of a joke. Not fast enough to qualify but get in as alternate and spend 5k to get waxed all week.
Eh, I get what you are saying, but if someone makes it through a regional, but gets hurt in another class or gets hurt before LL are they supposed to leave that spot open on the gate? Or if someone gets hurt during practice on Tuesday. I understand the reason for alternates, but maybe it needs to be limited to only the first 5 riders that missed out on qualifying like 7th-11th
There are many reasons why someone might not qualify, not being fast enough is only one of them....
Sometimes the fastest rider can have issues at a regional like a flat tire or first turn crash. I've seen 1-1-22 finishes at regionals where the rider didn't get top six.

My first year in 99 I made it as an alternate in super mini. I got 12th, I beat over half the field. Did I still get smoked in your eyes?
Yea thats impressive. I noticed that the regionals are a sprint and some of the guys that are fast there might not be as fast or dominant over the whole race at lorettas. Being able to ride the whole moto at lorettas means more than being fast at a regional.
Thought a thread on the reeds would be about something else. ... #ifyaknowuknow 😉🤣
Connie Feist. Alternate. 1981 125 Amateur National Champ.
Short is pro sport and plus 40. One of the few vets that still wants to put belt to ass to the kids in pro sport.
2026. Let's do it
Alternates serve their purpose and are capable of rising to the occasion. In LL 2015, Marco Canella won the Schoolboy 1 title as an alternate, where he ironically performed better than he did in the class he qualified for, Schoolboy 2.
Why can’t the kid just carve his own path and not have to run his fathers number. Not hating and I understand there is the 22 brand but how about just say I’ll take 522 or something.
Can’t run 3 digit at the ranch
With all 3 kids running it now, it would be cool to see 22, 122, 222, 322, or 22, 221, 222, 223.
Ive thought the same thing. Run it when youre a pro and rate a 2 digit number as an homage to youre pops but as an amateur just run a 3 digit version of the number or whatever number you get. 122, 221…etc. Everybody should have to go through the grind years of running a 3 digit number, its a rite of passage. If I was chad reeds son I would feel like I had to earn that 2 digit number. Hell deegan ran 238 many times through his amateur career and into his futures career and then rookie year. If tate ends up becoming a pro hes going to have to run a 3 digit anyways.
I agree, except can't run a 3 digit.
11, 55, 77, etc. Pick a number kid. If you qualify better next year and you want 22 go back to it then.
$91 for a day pass, wow. Just a few years ago it was $50 for a day pass. Guess I'll sit at home and watch it on racer T.V.
The irony in this post lol. Youre saying he should do his own thing by also saying what he should do
Pit Row
That's ridiculous. Furthermore, if I were tate I'd want my own number. I wouldn't want to just look like a small replica of my dad. I grew up in a moto family, and it was so exciting when I started racing to get my own cool number. And c'mon, you gotta 3 digit at some point in your life.
Would like to see what the profit is from Loretta’s for mxsports.
