Dungey was an established champion on a Suzuki first.  I’m not saying Roger wasn’t involved, but KTM most certainly was not.

The scenario we are discussing here is whether or not Deegan would have been as successful transitioning from the KTM amateur program to the KTM Red Bull team rather than Star Yamaha.

You asked “Has Roger/KTM ever taken a rider..…” .
To me, the / means ‘or’. If you only mean KTM, just say so.

I don't think Bobby cares what the Deegans do as a long as they winning.

I think they knew that is how it would go. One of the reasons they made the choice they did. A small part of me wonders if Decoster not giving Bryan a factory ride in 97 is not a small piece of this lol.

So, would we see the same Deegan if he gets tossed into the KTM meat grinder? I’m confident he wins races, but does that regime give him everything he needs to dominate?

Ah, I gotcha. Lets be real though. Whos a bigger meat grinder than the Star program? These kids all come up on KTM's and Star swoops in like the Yankees and grabs them. And are they all killing it on Star? Theres been obvious sucess. But when you have a 20 rider 250 team you're going to have success. Throw enough darts you'll get a bullseye. If you figure out the actual percentage they're hitting with these guys I'd wager it aint great. And if you dont produce almost immediately on Star, you're gone.

I kind of expect they will dump Bennick. Thats too bad. I was hoping he would be a huge success.

Why would he care about Haiden having a personality and dishing out some extremely PG smack talk here and there. Clowns on this forum act like Haiden hurls racial slurs on the podium and beats up the elderly in his free time.

As you get older, you’ll understand that it’s not only winning that sells product.

Maybe in 1975, but not 2025.

Deegan was with them as a junior but it was never an option as they will not be sponsored by any energy drink not named Monster. PERIOD. So Yamaha/ Kawasaki or Honda (who do not care) are the options

Despite what your personal opinion of the Deegans is, there are literally thousands of people at the truck to get autographs because they like him.

As a business person, I think that anybody that wins AND pulls tons of fans and eyeballs to your enterprise is a winning combination. That's more than true in 2025.

I don’t think anybody is saying what he says is over the line. He just flat out sucks at talking shit. It’s rough. It would be different if he was good at it, he sounds like a 14 year old kid on Xbox every time he tries to talk shit

Because they are obsessed with Deegan. They join every thread about him to hate on him. It's creepy, and the ironic thing is they call others weirdos.

All the DeeganThroaters need to chill out with the 'dominating'. He's not going to 'dominate' Eli and Chase outdoors, let alone Jett. And he's certainly far from dominating 250 regional supercross championships.

Thank God for Deegs.  It gave all the JLaw fans someone new to cheer for.🤣  And that's not to take anything away from either rider's talent but both of them have some rabid fans.

I think that He is a better rider right now,  on the Star team VS KTM. When he went to star he looked off the pace and I was surprised at how quickly he got faster.

Fast forward to last year when he started working with Craig and not riding with all the other guys as much, doing a more  1 on 1 type  450 guy style deal . And his results suffered .  He went back to doing the team way and his results rebounded.

At KTM it would depend on who he was practicing with.I don't know how they structure it with Aldon Baker and who rides with who.  I really think that having so many quick Team mates to ride with helped him get to where he is now. I don't doubt that he would get there eventually on any brand, but I think that the way the Star program is ,helped him get there faster.

We don't know that.  As of right now his stats on a 250 are better than jett outdoors.

To the original question.....  the ktm group usually means aldon.  While I think there's a whole lot of good with his program,  recovery seems to be a tad lacking and his guys are almost always thin and a tad underfed.   Deegan isn't a big guy but he's got som moto muscle on him.... not sure the aldon way would be his jam.

I’m going to preface by saying that I’m not really a Deegan guy but I am a full on believer in his abilities. He’s an unreal talent, puts in the hours off the bike and has the mental pieces needed to be what he is.

BUT, in an alternate universe KTM doesn’t let him go as an amateur and they work out the Red Bull vs Monster deal. If that happens, do we see the same level of dominance from the young man? Hypothetically he could’ve gone through the TLD program, which hasn’t necessarily been great at developing talent on 250s.

So, would we see the same Deegan if he gets tossed into the KTM meat grinder? I’m confident he wins races, but does that regime give him everything he needs to dominate?

KTM didn't "let him go". He rode the Star bike and made a choice. Brian made him walk the bike over to the team and shake hands and thank everyone involved.

I'm not a fan of the attitude but the skills are undeniable. Yes, he's still winning because he is willing to put in the work.

Yes, they're the weirdos. Are we projecting now? Some people dislike Deegan. Here's the difference between them and you. They all still acknowledge how badass he is, what a hard worker he is, etc. You on the other will not say one critical thing about him. Even if its just an honest critique. You live in the Deegan threads and thats it. Just blind white knighting for a kid. Seems I hit a nerve. Maybe time for some self reflection on your odd behavior

Never happen, he's too good and his dad's too smart and calculating to let him get on an inferior bike

Self reflection for your unfounded claims that I’m some creeper? Go pound sand.  I’ve made plenty of posts that have zero to do with Deegan and I’ve made plenty defending him against the claims from sods who are quite clearly haters.

The same keyboard warriors show up in every thread about Deegan to say something about him that’s usually either grossly exaggerated, completely false, or based on an assumption. They admit he’s good on a bike because they have no choice. Saying otherwise would fly in the face of reality. It’d be like saying Jett sucks and lucked into all his titles.

The kid isn’t perfect. He's said some silly things and had a few cringe moments, but as da300 said, some of his haters act like he beats up old women.  It’s ridiculous, and I have no problem defending him so you can take all your white knight bs and suck it.

Roger had nothing to do with finding Ryan Dungey. In fact, when Cole Gress went to him with Dungey, he said no, we already have our guy, we’re going with Brian Gray (RIP). Ryan walked up to him and said you will hire me someday.

Tony Sulek  hired him on at WBR Suzuki team and they all were testing for outdoors with the factory team. Roger just happened to see Dungey laying down faster laps than all his 250 guys at GH and asked if he would try one of their bikes.

Roger hired him and got all the credit for giving a B rider a factory contract.

Roger is a great manager, but he has never found an unknown rider and had any success.

Great background info but I never said Roger discovered Dunge.

Has any current or recent  team manager ever discovered an 'unknown' rider and had success?
