Recently read that only 1 in 10 people that get struck by lightning is fatal.

Next time all you people that say moto has gone soft, you’re more than welcome to stay out there when lightning is a few miles away.

Two laps earlier and it would have been a better scenario.

1 in 150 car crashes are fatal. Does that mean you can disregard all safety and traffic laws because the odds are in your favor? What a stupid comment.

Yeah to bitch about a red flag is a shit take. That lightning was CLOSE. Too bad there was lightning because that would have been an epic mudder. There were trucks sliding down the hill in the parking lot into other trucks.

Clearly you haven’t been to many races at HP.  It’s a normal occurrence for vehicles to be sliding around trying to exit.  I had to be pulled out with a CAT many years ago….. and they didn’t red flag the race.   🤦🏼‍♂️

I’ve been to High Point plenty. Clearly you weren’t there today. There’s not a single (sober) person who was there today that would say that was a safe scenario to keep racing in.

I have, the same track, the same national sitting on bleacher holding an umbrella watching torrential rain, wind and lightning, shitters floating and fools sliding into a cesspool of flooding shit water. Thunderstorm started on the first laps and the race went on.  It was glorious.

This isn't something new. Unadilla '18, they wouldn't start the 2nd motos until the lightning was further from the track. Moto fans cry about the dumbest shit.

It's funny isn't it, when clowns on here don't like the fact Jett or Honda won then it's very convenient to say no one complained until he was in a position to win the overall... I mean seriously do people hate other riders that much !!??? To even think that they waited for that moment over safety ? Really?

Yep I agree with this take...total BS that they risked the safety of riders to make sure Jett got the overall.

Also...the earth is flat and the moon landing was faked.

Oh cmon. Jett probably would’ve passed everyone anyway with the time left. 😏

There’s a wide range of health issues that are “non-fatal”…We tend to focus on death, but your life can be plenty screwed up without dying.

Probably a lot of the same people bitching about the dozer grooming the left side of the start straight, 50+ feet from the closest rider at Thunder Valley last year.

Lightning is nothing to fuck with, no matter how stupid we used to be back in the day.

My god some of you people are absolutely mind blowing, do you drink the same water as Cooksy?

Clearly stated in the rules and its a known rule, same for supercross.

If Jett didn't get the overall this thread wouldnt of been started.

I was bummed about the red flag but it was the right call. The area got hammered, some places totally flooded out with cars floating away. Where I'm at ive never saw it rain that hard which is crazy. I did not expect that.

I didn’t see anyone catching Jett at the time.

Let's go from a motorcycle with rubber tires to the pit with alloy framed tents😅 I wasn't there, maybe the weather was that bad 🤷🏼‍♂️

Does MXGP have the same rules? Can't remember last time they stopped or shortened a race because of the weather.

If they waited the end of the race, Jett would surely have passed Hunter and get 2 more points though

Yeah red flag when it happened actually benefited Tomac slightly.  Very good chance that Jett would have caught Hunter and extended his lead over Tomac by another two points.

Can’t fuck around with lightning. Honestly could of been called sooner.  But was odd as soon as Jett had the overall

I just saw on the news that a NRL game was stopped for lightning tonight.

And, indeed, the sky from the stadium cameras looked pretty Nasty.

Being 'Footy', well, they could stop it while it went over, and the danger passed. Then get back at it.

Now, whether or not, on whatever Footy / NRL sites out there that exist, there is bitching about which team it may, or may not have advantaged, I do not know - well, frankly, IDGAF, as I have absolutely no interest in the game. But I daresay there'll be a fair bit of it - it's the internet, after all.

Mind you, earlier on, I was up on the Roof / up on a Ladder, when it rapidly turned dark, and some lightning cracked just up on the mountains - this Battered Bear, did a slide down the ladder, that a Fire Fighter might be proud of. FTSFAJ 😱.

I see.

I've heard about a case in Europe where spectators were leaning against a metal fence during a car race. Over 50 people got medical treatment after the lightning strike...
