The adjusted wins list is a wins list if RC didn't exist and we count the second places to him as wins. Windham and Reed jump from outside the top ten to 4th and 6th respectively.

Windham and Reed, along with James Stewart are the biggest benefactors in terms of overall wins.
If we look at championships, Kevin Windham would have four 450 MX titles as he finished second to Carmichael four times. He was only 8 points behind RC in 2001 which was the closest anyone came to Carmichael in a season. The next closest was Windham again in 2003 (-69). Three other riders finished second to Carmichael in a championship and would have a title or additional title: Chad Reed, Tim Ferry, Sebastien Tortelli.
Now this is what forums are for. Great work on these stats
Wow, so Tim Ferry would have been the 2002 champion in addition to his 2007 championship.
Just goes to show how amazing RD5 was. Probably the most underrated rider of the 21st century, so far. Surprised that RV2 isn't on the list. I thought he would have at least half as many outdoor overall in the 450s as Dungey does!
Yeah he did a Great job. John Dowd was the biggest inspiration to riders back then. To get a factory ride in his 30,s was unheard of back then. He was a Great 250 rider Yamaha putting him on the to 125 to stop RC was messed up. But he got a 125 sx title. Which is crazy if you think about it.

👌
Very cool stuff. Thanks for sharing! This is the kind of stuff I daydream about but this one was a pretty big undertaking.
This is also an example of how stupid the whole down vote situation is. The post doesn’t have anything opinionated that one could agree/disagree with yet it already has downvotes. I just don’t get the point of hiding downvoters and giving them the power to hide what they are downvoting.
Hannah and Johnson might have something to say about this if it weren't for untimely injuries. Did you see the stat last week where Eli is just now tied with RJ for moto wins outdoors. Hannah almost lost his leg and then came back to crappy equipment when Yamaha redesigned the bike in his absence.
aren't almost all of Roczen's wins in 2 years? insane how dominant he was for a short amount of time.
also, Windham's actual wins were straight up beat downs on the GOAT.
sweet post bro, love this stuff
Kenny won a couple races in 2019/2020 and 2021 aswell but most of them were from 2014-2016, yeah. Imagine how it could have looked like if not for SX injuries.
If a few things would have gone differently for me that list would look different
Please pee in this cup, Sir.
Him and Gajser for sure.
Too Hip was one bad mfer. Cut down in his prime.
you were always shit at making interesting lists, imagine what could have been
As if that wasn’t enough, he comes out of retirement after 5 years and places 6th overall in the series. RD5 is a legend.
And likely would of had an overall podium at Washougal, had he not had the bike failure.
The problem for RD5's legacy will always be that he never beat Villopoto for an outdoor title and Villopoto beat him twice (though arguably both Dungey and Reed were better in 2011 if not for the gas issue at Freestone and the Chadapult).
Win % would be interesting.
Pit Row
Now to complete the picture take RC’s record and insert him into another era, say the RV/RD era and see how their records are affected.
RC sure pissed in a lot of guys Cheerios 😄 Interesting stats !
Sounds like a job for Clinton Fowler.
The most interesting stat to me in the OP's post was the closest points to RC. Sixty-one points separate the closest from the second closest? That's nuts.
Facts
Here is the table from the original post but added adjusted and actual win percentages. I'll also attach the top ten best win percentages of all time for reference. I built and maintain my own database that houses all the mx and sx results and stats and post a lot on my instagram and twitter @smxmuse!
That's awesome, thank you. RC really was the GOAT in the US.
Awesome work Big Guy!💯👍🏻
Yeah, Hannah missed the entire 1980 season when he was in his absolute prime and when he did come back in 81, I don't think he was quite 100% along with the crappy bike thing. They also ran less races back then too.
RJ too. The wrist injury pretty much ended his career in his prime as well.
Tim Ferry never won any outdoor or Big bike titles. Grant Langston won 2007 outdoors after receiving the supposedly better 2008 frame and using it in the last few rounds. This is the year that Ricky was leading the points and retired anyways, and JS7 was out with a torn acl.....if I remember correctly haha
I've always been a huge Hannah fan. He was still fast as hell after the water skiing incident with Tripes, but he couldn't stay together. I've read they started calling him Brittle Bob. Supposedly the bones in his feet would fracture just from riding. I would speculate he was pumped so full of meds like antibiotics that it had a lasting affect. Better than the alternative, according to some sources they almost amputated his leg.
I met him last September, he was very accommodating. We talked about his Honda comeback, racing in the Kingdome, and his plane he flew in to the race in.
But, why?
Carmichael did race…. The desire to calculate this kind of thing is just weird.
