Jett and Haiden are gonna be bringing the heat.

Hopefully Eli and Chase will as well.

Not sure but expect bigger gates get a good start & hog the race line . And bring home sum dough .  Vet A riders racing vet B is common.  Your a fast dude race A class & let your racing pay for the weekend .  I mentioned a few weeks ago that it’s supposed to be a record heat this summer.

As a guy just watching on tv, I really liked Freestone. Rough and hot, man's track. I know everyone said it wasn't a good track for spectator's. They say that about Pala, too. Southwick isnt anything soecial as far as spectating goes either.

Freestone wasnt a National caliber track IMO..... Have attended in person to the national, have ridden/raced it as a squid on amateur day. Viewing at the wick is pretty piss poor in person sans a few areas but i'd venture to say its better than Freestone, and it isnt a bajillion degrees and humid. Last Freestone national I attended was brutal!

I have to defer to your expert opinion having been there. I thought it looked good from the comfort of my couch lol! Which is where I'll be watching Southwick this year. I hadn't gone in a couple years and went last summer. I was quickly reminded why I'd rather watch on tv. I'll go to Dilla

This is crazy but I feel like if they started the races even an hour earlier that would help a little bit, I imagine that’s impossible though

Wasn’t Freestone the track Tomac cooked himself his first year pro and took all year to recover?

Keep in mind Hangtown is basically a dirt pit, so if the weather is forecast for 100 degrees in Rancho it’s going to be at least 110 to 115 down on the start line.  Amateur day is gonna be rough this year 😬

Wow I definitely win dumb ass of the year award, I had no idea they changed it to the weekend before why would they do that?  That’s super lame, guess I screwed myself by not checking.

You’re not a dumb ass man. LOL

I remember when Sexton was in the 250 class racing in Florida and he got overheated. I believe it took a few months for him to fully recover.

Now you see teams have ice baths to get their core cooler. We’ll probably see other methods at this race.

We used to live 20 min from Hangtown and raced it a lot. I tapped out in 105f there. Even prepping for it with good diet and hydration for a week ahead, I couldn't do the second moto that day. I knew after moto 1 that I was done. I've ridden my street bike there in 109f and it was like riding in an oven - just brutal and dangerous as well.

We were thinking about heading down for the weekend but not with those temps. Now I'm acclimated to Oregon, and anything over 80 is too damn hot. If you are spectating, there is no shade, and the bowl holds the heat. Sunscreen, wet towel, an umbrella and as much water as you can carry would be my plan. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Hell, just stay home and watch from the couch. That's what I'm doing.

First Hangtown was 1974 at the Plymouth sand track.  Freezing cold overnight in the back of a beater Ford pickup, praying for the sun to come up.  Last Hangtown was 2021 when I could feel heat stroke coming on before the 1st 450 moto.  We bee-lined for the truck to get out of there.  The jailbait 52-year-old Girlfriend wants to go this year, but she hated the heat in 2021 and just forgot.  I looked into bougie tickets but they were around $450 each, so close to $1000 and it would still be hot and miserable.  Time to admit to the limitations of aging.  Going out to ride the 300 XCW today though!

That was the blessing of having Hangtown run in early April back in the day.  The realignment of the SX and MX schedules pushed it to the worst time of the year for heat and dried out hillsides.

Yeah, but I also remember Aprils with biblical rain right before the weekend. The window is small in NorCal.....

I remember that very vividly too, he just about collapsed when they were trying to interview him

I live 90 minutes north of the track in the foothills, so similar weather and elevation.  We have actually had a really nice spring this year, only had to run the AC a few times so far.  Almost too cool to go to the lake on Monday (but we went anyway).  Bummer our first really hot weather of the year is this weekend.  It will definitely thin the crowd a bit and make it easier to get around for those of us choosing to go and suffer, lol

Have they ever not raced a National due to excessive heat?

I think WW Ranch in 2019 was even hotter, multiple riders had fading issues that day and some of them (Barcia, Kenny for example) weren't the same for multiples weeks after that race. Definitely scary.

Pretty sure that was 2017. I was there in a back brace and it was steaming hot. Sort of like 7 months in Florida, we get the heat

Definitely nowhere near as bad as some Florida humidity, I thought Hangtown was bad on some of those hundred degree days during all those years watching the nationals as well as racing amateur races there, but until I experienced humidity in Orlando Florida and Texas, my word lol I don’t know how people can live in those places where you can’t even breathe, I guess you just get used to it.

Trust me, we think it sucks too. May - September just absolutely sucks. Especially in the evenings, because rather than cooling down to the low 70s/60s like it tends to do up north, it's still 85 degrees at 9PM here.

Sounds like a practice nothing on racing.  Redbud has a good amount of am racing.  Pro track Fri& sun, night track Fri, sat , practice Thursday. Pro am is Sunday I think.  Millville practice Thursday race Fri & Sunday .
