This has to be an old story.. Michael Jordan has had a NASCAR team for 5 years, so the announcer wouldn't be surprised that Jordan knows who he is unless its from 2019 or previous is my guess

Is Diffey making plays behind the scenes to get involved in more broadcasts? Maybe, I don’t know.

I do know, as someone who watches NASCAR, that Rick Allen was fucking atrocious. So for him to be replaced wasn’t a shock to me. 

Yeah I am very on the fence about Diffey after the whole SX DB stuff, but this one is not on him
Allen's commentary has never been particularly the best, and it just seems to have gotten worse over the years. People had been telling NASCAR to get him out of the booth for a while, and it was not an unexpected thing to most fans when it happened.

Hopefully this means more Weege for SX in the future.

Idk man. I will say Dale Jr has some great podcasts. 

As much as people on here know about everything, why do you even need an announcer? Just listen to yourself the whole race.

Rick Allen was announcing up through 2024, so it's not old news.  Diffey didn't start NASCAR announcing as a lead until August 2024.

Maybe he was underperforming?  Either way, not knowing the exit reason is lame no matter what business you are in.

I HAVE to assume Steve is hoping to leave the door open for TV opportunities and doesn't want to burn that bridge. Only reason I can think of that he wouldn't call out the bullshit like he used to. He used to be pretty ruthless about the coverage until Weege and JT got on the team. Could also be he's doing it out of respect for them. Either way, just refrain from saying something instead of being supportive. I cringe every time he makes an excuse or downplays the bullshit.

It's pretty simple.  Someone at NBC thinks Diffey is the face of their motorsports broadcasting.  NBC lost the rights to the IndyCar broadcast.  Therefore, we're going to get a lot more Diffey in moto and what's left of NBC's NASCAR deal.
