Yea, I saw that - love him or hate him, its a super bummer.

He has stayed out of trouble for 10+ years now, and all he wants to do is ride and have fun and enjoy the sport.

He does his own thing, and thats cool, but a stolen bike just sucks.

Jason Lawrence was always controversial, and, got up to a fair bit of  (more than) mischief.

But one thing i always have in mind about him, was when there was an Appeal / Go Fund Me ( that, GFM, probably didn't exist then) for funds for a new , equipped van for Danny Magoo Chandler.

At the time, I saw the highest, or near highest contribution to it, something around $15 / $20K, was put in by Lawrence.

Now, I think Magoo may have passed away before the van was provided, so funds may have not been delivered, but, as I said, Lawrence's' pledge / contribution was a bit of a stand out within it.

I was never a hater or a 'hanger' of Lawrence, or, indeed, any rider , I just tended towards 'WTF?' at times, as I still do with nearly every 'scandal' that our sport has, but, that pledge / contribution by JL, leavened my  opinion of him, and much reduced my 'WTF' towards him.

Wow never heard that before. That moderates my opinion of him a bit too.

"For me, a dirtbike is a necessity as racing the thing is my sole source of income."

Where has he been racing that is paying him enough to rely on as a sole source of income?

He should have been smart enough with his racing income that this would never be an issue. He probably could have worked out a deal with a contract to get bikes for life, didn't "Chicken" do that? I think someone from 80's/90's moto gets a new bike every 2 or 3 years and they just trade in the last bike they were given.

Clicking on the thread I wasn't sure if it was going to be: J-Law Found With a Stolen Bike   OR J-Law's Bike Was Stolen.

So I guess this is a good thing?

I agree with you but since he has the fame, why not try to make it worth something?   Can't hate the player for playing the game.

That's harder to do than you think. Guys like RC, McGrath or Villopoto are getting free bikes because it's part of their pay plan. They are actively employed or contracted by the company they are with. I have a feeling the Triumphs, Kawasakis and Yamahas are going to dry up if those agreements end, however. From a goodwill standpoint, I bet some guys still have good friends in the loaner pool departments of the OEMs they rode for and are able to capitalize on it, but I'd be willing to bet the Japanese guys back home don't know about it. Or at least turn a blind eye to it. Also, things change as those people retire or move to other OEMs / other industries.
Unless the rider has an active, ongoing agreement, it's not easy to borrow a $10,000 machine for a year and return it all beaten up. (Much less 2-3 years.) I don't see guys like Johnny O, Guy Cooper, Ezra Lusk or Larry Ward getting free bikes without a whole lot of sweet talk and maybe even some kind of obligations to the company.

I hate thieves, but there's so many riders with no insurance on their bikes. I hope he had insurance, but I'm assuming not with a GFM setup. The second I take ownership in something, it gets insured. I even had my daughters clapped out PW50 insured. lol

It sounded like Chicken, or whoever it was, negotiated it in their last contract. I don't see why a rider now couldn't do the same. Negotiate less money on the contract to get bikes for life or take more money, invest it and you buy your own bikes for life.

So according to the GFM, the bike was stolen Feb. 24th but he didn’t get it until March 1st? WTF JLaw?!

Classic tweaker move. Sell bike for drugs, claim it was stolen to all of your loved ones, play the victim, get said loved ones to bail you out (buy new bike).  Classic!

Especially since he said it was his "sole source of income." That seems like something you would definitely insure.

I don't recall the exact details but JLaw was given a bike (or bikes?) and support from Yamaha and Alpinestars to do LL's and other amateur races. When it came time to race he didn't show up. He seems to be more adjusted these days but he needs someone to give him bikes with no strings attached and that's a big ask.

It's sad how many people have already contributed to this. "Stolen" bike, self started go fund me, presumably no insurance, sketchy/weird details in the post. The whole insinuation of "I'm a different dude when I don't have a bike" aka I'll get on the drugs if you people don't buy me a new bike. The whole thing stinks. Addicts need help, not enabling

Saw that right away. Thats why I NEVER buy a bike 6 days after I know its going to get stolen.  When you do that, just too many things can go wrong!! 🤣

Flame away but I still wouldn’t trust Jlaw as far as I could throw him. His constant ramblings and videos on IG just scream Tweaker. I can’t figure out for the life of me why the whole industry has been whoring themselves out to him for the past few years.
