It might be an exclusivity thing with Feld. They don't want riders talking to a media source not under Felds control at the end of a race. NIL is a big thing with Feld too, I'm pretty sure they profit. I'm pretty sure they don't pay royalties for the riders NIL.
It's more about the money than the show.

I just think it’s cornball to enforce that and then publish a ‘post race penalty’ document written in Microsoft Word and printed to PDF. Sure hope someone at the AMA has the proper filing cabinet and dividers to keep track of all these infractions. It’s just stupid. They giving out demerits next?

here is the rule,
f. Blue Flag
1. Indicates that a Rider is about to be overtaken by faster Riders.
2. When conditions allow, the Rider receiving the blue flag must move out of the fast line. Once out of the fast line, Riders must hold their line, must not ride erratically and must not impede the progress of the faster Riders.
3. Riders disregarding the blue flag may be penalized at the discretion of Race Direction.
Points 1 & 2, fair enough.
Point 3 is the grey area that all the AMA controversy roots from. Specify the penalty and add a fine. No more wrist slaps.
Add a 4th point: slower riders must not gain an advantage under blue flags conditions.
i agree with both your points, i can only think of Reed, and Chisolm in L & M days being penalised for ignoring the blue flag,
"I'm just here so I don't get fined."
If Chase does it next time he blows a lead, he will be my favorite rider for sure.

Read this in Jason Thomas voice: We have a very disappointed Chase Sexton with me here. Chase, absolute heartbreak there in the main. You held a commanding lead for 90% of the race and then had a mistake in the last bit of the whoops, can you walk us through that?
Now read this in Sextons voice: Yeah.. The track was super technical and the whoops started breaking down near the end of the main. I could see Malcolm gaining in the whoops each lap and then I just made a stupid mistake near the end of the whoops there and went down. We will go back and work on some things this week and then be back better next week.
That is about all the interview would have consisted of.

Since this is streaming now and not on broadcast most weeks I'd like to hear the real unfiltered version. Kentucky derby puts a reporter on a horse to get the interview moments after they cross the line. Haley Shanley rides, get her a helmet and a pit bike and tell her to get a microphone in their face before they're even off the track. Pay up if you don't want to comply.
