They used to try and then hang horse/cattle thieves....which was the point of the "historical" image I shared. I guess when you take away consequences for crimes, it puts us where we are in the world today.
Something needs to be done to stop the free-for-all crime sprees. Maybe things will change now....but I don't want to go down a political slant in moto..

The concept of human life being less valuable than property is a disgusting concept to me. Murdering people over theft is an insanely capitalistic mindset, especially when most of us here are working class.
That being said I’ve had 3 bikes stolen that were not recovered and it really sucked. The people who stole them probably weren’t remorseful in the slightest and I wish there were a way to change that.
To add some perspective, Mirtl is being accused of stealing 6x this amount….from his close “friends”. Haven’t seen anyone imply that he should be killed for it.
If the penalty of theft was loss of life, then it is the thieves who would be placing the value of the property higher than their own lives. This is exactly how I feel castle doctrine states are justified.

2- it's ironic how people so in touch with their own feelings don't understand a) incentive drives behavior b) you cannot project your own EQ onto the masses; people are not fungible

Not gonna lie, the amount of upvotes all the posts that call for executing people for theft scares me a bit. Yea, theft is infuriating and there should be consequences, but you want to kill someone for taking a fucking inanimate object?
Non moto and slightly off topic, but I believe there are crimes that deserve the death penalty, but no justice system perfect enough to use the death penalty. Waaaaay too many cases that get exonerated after they've already killed the innocent person who was wrongfully convicted. And just 1 is too many, I'd rather let a million guilty go unpunished than execute 1 innocent person.
Anyway, dirt bikes are fun.
If someone steals a $10k motorcycle and their punishment is death, that’s an insane world. Imagine how many wrongly accused people would die haha. Low empathy mindset of middle class people who want to see the middle class disappear

Imagine a world where a thief values their life so little that they’d be willing to take the chance of dying over a dirt bike.
But this is the issue... when someone breaks into your house to steal stuff, and you shoot them dead, its not that you value your stuff over their life, but they chose to value your stuff over their life.
Of course yeah someone breaks into your house and you defend yourself that’s entirely different than catching someone who stole something and the punishment is death. Self defense against someone who broke into your home with an unknown objective is not the same

...so if you've ever taken a company pen home, should you catch a bullet? What dollar amount do we start killing people over? Like someone said, an upper middle class person steals $600k and it's "maybe they should spend a couple years in a nice cushy prison", vs a lower class person stealing an $8k dirt bike and suddenly it's "I want to torture them before dragging them out back and putting a bullet in them".
Serious consequences? Yes. Death? Fuck no.

While I don't believe thieves should get capital punishment, I do believe when someone's private space is being invaded, that person should have every right to defend it with any and all means available. And should the thief get caught later, consequences should be far more severe than they currently are.
I was going to type a long explanation of my thoughts on the matter, but I'll just summarize with this- we trade a portion of our life to obtain things we irrationally love. It's human nature. When somone attempts to take that, they are taking a part of your life's time and energy, and fucking with something you have an attachment to, however irrational and silly that attachment may be. It's again human nature to defend that.
I haven't either haha . I somehow avoided the wrath of that big meanie Guyb .
