I remember Reed supposedly being worth 60 million because of real estate investments, then that went down quite a bit with the economy?

in the last year, didn’t herlings say he owns 50+ houses outright? And continues building/buying them?

This story on Reed from Aussie media in 2012 states:

His personal fortune is estimated at $25 million, including mansions in California and Florida, a private jet and a luxury apartment in Newcastle, just 30 minutes ride from his home town of Kurri Kurri.

https://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/612144/chad-reeds-all-that-and-more/

I'm presuming the 25 mill mentioned is in Aus dollars. If converted to US dollars, and then taking into account inflation since 2012, it's worth $21,249,785.22 today.

As for the 60 mill claim.  The same thing is discussed in this Vital thread from 2014.

What about a different question?  It will make things clearer.

Which rider made (or is making) the most money from their MX/SX career? And to be even clearer - lets just include money made directly from racing and racing based contracts - not from investments made from that income (e.g: in property etc).

If the stuff about Reed making $60 million is true he must be up there.

I heard on Pulp once RV had $30 million post career (made from racing).

I heard RVs got a 4 million dollar spot by the beach, by Dana Point or something like that. RV had to have made some good money. Also when he was on PC, his win bonus program was 100k for 1st, 10k for 2nd, and nothing for 3rd. That’s coming from a buddy that was super close to Wiemer and would probably have be in the know. RV did a lot of winning with Mitch. RV just plain did a lot of winning!!

Herlings stated he owns 60+ homes outright I believe. Talk about generational wealth.

The post he shared is from a few years ago, where he bought his 58th house. that number should have increased again now. If I'm not mistaken, he tends to buy himself in projects with new (and sustainable energy wise) houses being build. Him and Cairoli made some great money the past 10+ years. Another rider in Europe that did really well was Gautier Paulin, always had some bigger mainstream sponsors, like Audi France.

I remember a post from DV where he shared his retirement plan into Stocks and other investments somewhere here on Vitalmx. Hopefully most of the past champions (or riders around top 5-10 area) managed to keep their money in their pockets

I’m suprised no mentioned McGrath. Dude had to make an absolute huge amount.

You know Stewart made a ton, same with villo, dung, Tomac etc

But I’d have to say RC. Modest living, the most championships. TP? Who knows.

Jett and Deegan will trump it though

Pastrana has to be making an insane amount per year with Nitro Circus. He’s pretty much his own version of Feld, you have to assume he’s richer than ever.

Anyone have an idea how much the Nitro Circus brings in per year ?

Go watch a couple of the Channel 199 YouTube videos and check out the crowd sizes at the Nitro events; they aren't what they used to be. Maybe they pack the house in Australia/overseas, but the US shows don't seem to be bringing the crowds. I'm not saying TP is headed for the poor house, but I'd bet his bank account isn't what some of you think it is.

I thought TP along with his partners sold Nitro Circus. To the same people that own the UFC.

Dana White is one of three investors in the company that bought them, but it wasn’t the UFC.

Reed? I thought I saw somewhere that he was the 3rd richest athlete out of Aus and was worth somewhere near 60 mill? Maybe I’m wayyy off, but I thought I had read that somewhere years ago.

That number was getting  thrown  around some years back.  JT$ quickly shut that down and said it wasn't anywhere close to that high.

I'm pretty sure he's on record as being kind of bitter the salaries and bonuses were so low when he did all his winning, I don't think he was in on the million dollar championship/100k race win bonuses. RC has to be on top as far as racing earnings go, he raced during the prime earning years and won everything.

During RC's perfect seasons, what was his purse money total? And as embarrassing as that might be, consider that Herlings races pretty much as a share cropper

The biggest question is which ones haven’t gotten divorced.  That kills guys and I’m friends w one of the guys listed in this post and divorce was brutal for him.  Ricky got divorced couple years ago right?  Between giving up half and selling assets and spousal support and child support it disappears quickly.

McGrath. Carmichael got divorced that may have cost him a lot. McGrath had a lot of championships and more time to invest than RC.

I won't say MC has a bigger bank account than RC, but salaries and bonuses being "so low" is a bit of a stretch. MC owns a huge home in Encinitas (avg. home price = $1.8M), and even though he sold it a few years ago, he had Thing Ranch (680 acres) in Anza east of Temecula for quite a few years.

I'm not positive on the exact amount, I think they mentioned it in a Pulp show at some point, maybe a $25k win bonus and $250k championship?

They don't teach the finer points of financial management at home school.

These guys marry the blonde shiny object, and when the factory paychecks stop, well you know what happens next...

Travis Pastrana

Combine the top 5 without Travis and Travis probably has them all covered.

The richest mxer of all time didn't race mx for a living. Great athletes, maybe nice guys, but no pro racer is college material and a lot are home schooled, at best they are putting money where a financial advisors tells them at their cut, at worst "investing" in a buddy's brewpub or puttputt golf course idea. I have a hard time believing in the investing strategy or financial acumen of people who pronounce the word especially as "ekspecially".

Josh Cartwright went to college full-time and earned an IT degree while still making SX main events.

He might not be the norm or rich from racing dirt bikes, but to say no pro racer is college material is false.

Eddie Cole would be my guess. Yamaha factory rider in the 70s and the owner of many MX companies (Answer, 661, etc.).

The property is in Newport Beach. Close-ish to Corona Del Mar beach. Primo neighborhood. Ballerville all day! If you own anything in that area, it's gold.
