i have owned sidis and wasnt impressed, sold them for sg10's
Tech 7’s seem a little softer in the toe box than Gaerna or SIDI. With that said lots of Tech 7’s being ridden, woods, track, trails you name it. I wouldn’t worry about it but I’m not a woods rider, I’m scared of trees!!! If I was concerned I’d get Sg12’s or Crossfires. Lots of good boots to choose from.
I am using SG12's right now but they are the most uncomfortable boot ive ever owned. ive been dealing with it for 2 years now because they obviously arent cheap but i cant do it any more. Id like to bet the farm on the sg22 but it sure would suck to pay that much and find out they are uncomfortable as well.
I think that You need to find a shop that You can drive to that has the brands and models You want to try on. Even if You have to find a few shops that are close to each other and take a day to go try them on.
Every body's feet are different and the opinions on comfort on here may not be the same for Your feet. The brand and model people wear for the style riding You do, and opinions about durability are great to factor into the decision. But like helmets , You should really try them on in person before deciding.
I always encourage my customers to try on any gear they are looking at before they buy it. I would rather have a customer leave with the correct fitting gear than have to return it. Or feel like they are "stuck" with it. And I do it so the customer gets a piece of gear that will work the way it is designed. Boots or helmets that do not fit well, are not going to protect as well. Just recently a customer that had been wearing SG12's for as long as they have made them ,realized they were wearing a size bigger than they should be. After they tried on some fresh pairs in both their normal size and the size down.
I would also try another pair of SG12's in a size up or down . And see if You got a pair with a defect or if the sizing helps.
Sidi and Leatt are the more popular woods boots around me in New England among the AA level riders I know. Sidi being the more popular woods boot with my customers that race J-day and some GNCC's.

I think Tech 7's provide good protection, especially in the woods. I think for a riding a fast pace at a track the 7's could offer a little more mobility restriction to be safer, but overall I feel they are the baseline standard of a good motocross and harescramble boot.
I had SG12's in the past and liked them but they were heavy (IIRC 9-10 lbs for the set). They offered a very solid and protective boot with no noticeable impediment to movement while on the bike. I also think the standard sole gives better feel than the molded sole like alpinestars, but the Astars aren't bad by any means. The SG12's were also very durable , going 2-3 times longer than the Tech 7's in my experience.
What's the weight? Website says 6lbs each!
I’d wear Vans before I’d wear astars
WHY?
"I've had some boots on layaway at Zapateria La Bailarina..."
Being such a big ticket item and not living near a shop with a good boot selection it's worth paying the retail price at Rockymountain or Slavens for the luxury of one "free" exchange.
MotoSport may do this also but not sure.
I have the TCX Comp Evo. They seem comfortable and protective. I also have an old pair of Fly Sector boots that are made by TCX. They seem to be lasting forever - a bit of damage on the sole at the brake pedal but solid otherwise. I'm a bit surprised that TCX seem to be completely ignored. How do people who know them and other brands think they compare to the Sidi and Garne boots?
Def heavier than other boots but I'm not running in them so non issue
Alpinestars look great. You're out of your mind
Bloody Hell, that's fearful!
I'd hope that there is / was some sort of defect to that boot. The only time I've ever seen a Proper Dirt Bike Boot, of any manufacture / brand collapse like that, it's been, literally, with a split / broken sole and foot base.
Are they - that model - all that flimsy with regards to that sort of inadequacy ?
I purchased the boots from a dealership, the dealer (through their Fox Rep) sent the boots back to Fox, Fox says the boots are fine.......the dealership offered to replace with a pair of Tech 7's.
Gaerne SG22 or Tech7
I'm in the market for new boots. I have O'Neal RDX, and while they are very comfortable I don't think they do much for ankle/achilles support. This last weekend I actually paid attention to what guys were wearing, and I would say 90% of the guys were wearing Tech 7's. I was actually surprised. There was another fellow RDX wearer and a guy wearing the Leatt 5.5 Flexlock. I asked him how he liked his Leatt, and funny enough he said they are as comfortable as his Tech 7's, he said he liked that the Leatt has more support. I still can't decide.

Ended up taking advantage of the sale on last years tech 7 colorways. So far I am thankful to be comfortable in my boots all day long again. The tech 7 dont lack a single thing in comfort. I can say that i dont feel as safe in them compared to the SG12 and im pretty certain they wont last as long but for the money, I am happy so far. Time will tell.
Tech 7 Drystar...nice in the winter for woods
i picked up a couple sets of Tech 7's on Amazon, $275 per pair. only a few hundred miles in them but have been very impressed. not very water resistant, may check out the Drystar too
If money is no option...then go with the Tech-10's. But if that price holds you back get the Tech-7's. I've owned both in the past. The 10's feel like a Cadillac and the 7's feel the same but without the inner bootie bulk. Currently I still have my Tech-7's. When I'm due for new ones. I'll probably break down for the 10's again.
Oneal.
Does anyone ever tried Jett Boots or Acerbis?
Jett boots are really light and decent protection (slightly more protection than Tech 7's IMO). However, the Jett boots seemed to fall apart / break rather quickly. Lifespan was about 25% of what I'm getting out of Tech 7's.
I was in the same boat switched from SG12’s to the tech 7’s to get more feel. I think between them being a little lighter and easier to feel the controls I’m happy with the switch. Motorcycle closeouts had them for $240 shipped.

i might have to get a pair of these 6.5 boots.. they look like my old 661 boots.
I like mine too... And I found them for $165 bucks. I bought them as a spare set... now the SG 12's just sit.
After wearing Alpinestars I can’t to back to cheap boots, never tried Gaerne or Fox though they seem nice.
