Gary,

So sorry to hear this news. Sending prayers to you and for Jan, may she be finally be free from the pain of a terrible disease. I can only hope that you take comfort in that. May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ comfort you in your time of grief. Please keep in touch with us here on Vital. Though most of us don't personally know you, through your vital posts we do. If you ever need to vent, you have a lot of folks on here willing to listen. God Bless.

Kevin

Gary,

So sorry for your loss, such a difficult time.

But thank you for sharing your story. As hard as it has been, it makes all of us think about our priorities and what is really important in life. Remember the good times, and we should be thankful for the time we get because it isn't forever.

Gary,

I wish that I had some words that would comfort right now, but I know that nothing I can say would be adequate.  I hope that the joy of finding and being able to spend the years you were able to with Jan overcomes your grief.

Heartfelt condolences from our family to you.  I have been  following your updates and think it is easy to say you did your best for Jan in the last few months.  You are a true giant among men for how you have dealt with this awful disease.

Gary....I hope this brings you peace and comfort knowing she is in a better place and there is no more pain.

Gone from my sight

I am standing upon the seashore -

A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the
morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand
and watch her until, at length she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky mingle with
each other.

Then, someone at my side says: "There! She is gone!"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight - that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she
was when she left and just as able to bear her load
of living cargo to the place of destination.

The diminished size is in me; not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone at my side
says, "There! She is gone!"...

... there are others on a distant shore watching her
come into port -- and their excited voices take up the
glad shout -- "Here she comes! Praise God!

Home at Last!"

Thank you Magoofan,

There have been so many kind words from you guys that I've never met. The help for me of Love and SUPPORT as i have been struggling big time, has been truly amazing.

But what is quoted in this reply is truly inspiring for me, and as I try to gather up words for Her Eulogy (I hope i have this strength to be able to get through it).😭

I just might use this as well.

Thank you......💔

Gary, I don't know that I've ever felt so close to someone I don't know. Fuck is my day sad right now for you. I know words don't help much in times like this but I know so many people that have long "marriages" that still love each other but don't really even like each other. You and I have something many people will never experience. Actually being married to the love of our life. That one person that no matter what, makes us happy, makes us want to spend as much time as possible together. And just seems to make us whole. I don't know how I will handle what you're going through, I know this is the hardest day of your life. I also know that there's a tiny part of you that knows she is no longer in physical pain. Like with my Dad, it was a long time coming and even so I thought I was prepared emotionally. I wasn't, I know that the more you love someone the harder it is to process. I think you have a lot of support here but I imagine from the way you lead your life, you've also lot of friends to spend time with. And do that, share stories about Jan with them. Eventually, those stories will make you smile instead of cry (there's a lot of that for a while). You won't know when it's going to happen but it does, and don't try to hold it back, why would you? Your memories and feelings for Jan are much more important than what we were taught growing up, or what other meaningless people think if they see you cry.

Prayers brother!

Ken

Oh, you guys are REALLY great!

I have shared this thread, along with the previous last vacation thread that went terribly awry with family and friends and a few of them have replied. They can't believe the LOVE and SUPPORT  that you guys have shown.

Ken,

I feel the same way "I never felt so close to guys I don't know".

But in a way I really do as we all I met here for the same reason, our passion for Dirtbikes and Motocross and that is a bond that cannot be broken.

Thank you all so much. 🙏

I'm so sorry to hear this Gary, my sincerest condolences.

For those of you that never had the pleasure to meet Jan, I can attest to everything Gary has said about her.  My wife and I have spent many occasions with Gary & Jan, some great times and sad times alike.  Jan had such a unique way about her, so loving, so content, someone you could talk to for hours and seems like minutes.  And after a while it was easy to see that she just enjoyed life and took joy in sharing it with others.  Couldn't count how many times Jan was the only one of our wives at the track for practicing or racing.  And how she was able to endure us and all the bullshit, bonehead things we talked about and did will forever be lost on me.  I will truly miss her.

Thank you, Bob I appreciate it and what you said is very true. Many countless times Jan was the only Woman there during our nonsense at the track that could be dusty and loud. Not to mention the trash-talk amongst us.

But she enjoyed every minute of it and wouldn't change it for anything.

One of the things amongst many that I'm going to miss most is:

In the later years when I stopped racing but would go trail riding:

I'd be working on the bike the night before, loading the Van etc. And she always said, "Gary, I'm going to make you a special spaghetti dinner, so you have plenty of energy tomorrow and I want to get up early with you and make oatmeal, bacon and peanut butter toast."

I would tell her "you don't need to do that I want you to sleep in" but she did anyway

After the ride was complete and I would be in the van taking off my gear, she always wanted to hear a phone call from me to make sure I was okay and call her when I was headed home as she knew, I liked to share a few brewskies with the boys and bs about the day.

When I arrived and opened the door there was always the fresh aroma of one of her delicious dinners. I'm gonna miss her so much.....

The first time I go riding. I hope I can make it through that day without everything She did for me.....😭

The only girl raised amongst five brothers and the second oldest. I've often said many times "they toughened her up and made her resilient and loving and that was how she was able to put up with me so well". 😂

She always had her Beautiful SMILE 🙂 her whole Life.

Danny had yet to be born in this picture, Christmas Eve.

Jan loved to fish and she once told me she entered a fly fishing contest in her adult years and was the only girl entered and she won and has the trophy to prove it. 😀

Jan loved motorcycles and riding on the back of mine with the countless trips we went on.

Riding up Hwy 1 was quite an adventure up to Pismo or Laguna Seca 🏁 Raceway in beautiful Monterey.

She told me I was her "Personal Rocketship Driver". 🙂

She also told me a story how there was a local motorcycle shop and she went in and the guy let her take a test ride out in the field. She ended up crashing the bike and rolled it back to the guy and said, I'LL TAKE IT! 😂 it was a Hodaka trials bike and through the later years somehow, it disappeared amongst her brothers and nobody would ever fess up about it during the family gatherings. 🤔🤭

Jan is on the right.I'm not sure who is on the left.

Thanks for reading. I am truly heartbroken, not sure how I'm going to get through Life without her.

Thankfully my sister and brother-in-law drove down from the bay area and have been here since Saturday and along with Jan's Family have been going through stuff that would have been too painful for me to deal with. They've been so helpful. They leave Sunday  and I'm already dreading it. 😪

Thank you guys for reading and support, I love you all.
