Any updates on Lucas Coenen? It looked like a broken collarbone to me.

Yeah broke his collarbone think he had surgery already
Got surgery yesterday, everything went well. He hopes to be fit again in three weeks time.
Collar bone, already fixed and announced he will be on Redbull KTM in the MXGP class next year.
He's not moving to the US for next year? That was the rumor...

2026 was the latest rumor I believe
You would think he would want a 250 title before moving up.
The Coenen bros agent, Lucas Mirtl (same as the Lawrences) basically said there's no rush in getting them to the US. They're still young. Also very strategic for Mirtl himself. Why have your four biggest clients duking it out against each other in one series, when you can keep them in two separate series and potentially have them dominate everywhere... all at once?
Chrisgg90 mentioned in his post above that Lucas was going to MXGP next year. I'm not sure his age but if the age requirement doesn't move him up, I'd think he would want a 250 title first too.

Coenen Factory Fan Zone coming to the GP's next year? lol
Man I just don’t get this move. Not for me to get though and I’m sure they have many good reasons.
Are they moving up to 450s soon? I don't get how they would be competing with any of his clients other than Shimoda.
weird for him to go to 450s. i kind of think that ktm will throw a lot of money to keep them over there.
Imagine he wins the MXGP title next year, then I believe he can’t race 250 SX in the U.S, right?
Yes but.. I think everyone would take that trade lmao.
I also feel like it might be rushed but I guess they know better whats good for him.
They are pretty much set for the MX2 title with Adamo, Längenfelder and Everts anyways and just need strong MXGP riders now. I could just guess this was more like a team decision and the Coenens just went with it? Also interesting to see what De Wolf does next year.
There's no room for him to grow in the 250 class. Take out De Wolf and he's already beating the rest of the field by 30+ seconds. He clearly values his development as a rider more than that title.
Like mentioned above, he has simply no competition in the mx2 class left. Even this past season he had no one that could beat him straight up if he kept it on 2 wheels, i compare it with Herlings in his mx2 years the only one who could beat him was he himself by making faults that caused a crash or a injury its just the same with Lucas now in my opinion.
Also he said himself a few times before he likes the 450, and he was already riding and training on 1 for a few months (mainly to prepare for mxon but...), he also has the posture to ride on a 450. He will do good next year on it, but i dont think he will get the tittle in the end, it will be a good year learning and if everything will go to plan they leave to the US full time after mxon so...
As for Sascha it is also a good move to go from the ktm redbull awning to decarli racing, i picked up a few times this year he wasnt really happy on the way they setup his bike for him and could not ride to his full potential. I personally think he will come out kicking next year, he starts like a rocket already this year if they find a setup he likes and with the full time accompany of his brother he will be a championship contender for sure
Managing a successful title run is very valuable experience to me.
Pit Row
Really good move from KTM and Lucas, Lucas had nothing left to learn in MX2, his style suits the 450 better, and with a focus to race in America full time for the rest of his career, racing against TiGa, Herlings, Febvre, Renaux.... will make him a even better rider and will add to his resume for when he has to Apply to US Teams, he's yet to turn 18 right? Even if he ends up winning the title and cannot race 250SX, a year defending the MXGP crown wouldn't hurt.
I wonder if the Austrian group down sizing played a part to ? how many top 250s can they have , unlike the US the Austrian bike imo is the one to be on in Europe , I can see why he wouldn’t want to stray away from them 👍
He's 17 right? Basically won all races for last half of season. Why is he not staying in 250 next year, would be easy favourite for title
17 yr old dudes Gunnar be a star.
One year of mxgp ,then come to America n race deegan
Seems odd. One year mxgp , then off to the states for the 250 class again?
Title threat, vs learning a new bike and a new class. Bit of a head scratcher.
I would stay down, get stonger, get more experience and cash the cheques and bonuses. He might be fine but moving up to a stacked class with supposedly an eminent move to the USA and SX... doesn't make much sense to me.
I am and was a huge DB 45 fan . He also moved up at 17 and never won a title. I can't help but wonder about that choice in 1990. You have to think that getting a national or world championship early in a career is beneficial.
His bonuses will be the same as if he was on a 450.
i guess its best to start now the 2027 rumor........it might become very handy.....
silly season guess for KTM Group
2026 REDBULL KTM LINE UP:
250 - JuJu & Sacha
450 - Vialle & Lucas
Are they large? Maybe that’s why they’re moving to MXGP.
My guess is that the KTM group is confident enough in MX2 with all the teams/riders they already have. Move Lucas up to MXGP early to get him positioned as the top rider of the future and another title challenger for the brand. If you browse the contenders in MXGP a lot of them are getting up there in age. Gajser won the 2015 MX2 title as a surpise for Honda, moved up in a similar head scratcher in 2016 and ended up winning the 2016 MXGP title on first attempt.
1 - Prado Leaving to USA
2 - Gajser Age 28
3 - Herlings Age 30
4 - Seewer Age 30
5 - Febvre Age 33
6 - Coldenhoff Age 34
7 - Vlaanderen Age 28
8 - Horgmo Age 24
injured in 2024:
Jonass - Age 28; Fernandez - Age 26; Reneaux - Age 24/25; Geerts - Age 24/25
