From the facility itself. Dirt Wurx said "the back 40"
WOW
There are a lot of good dirt sources near by. Surprised they used dirty from the “back 40”. Must have been dirt from under the porta john storage area.
Looked a lot like the local tracks. Very reminiscent of Mosier Valley and River Valley. Super fun when it's moist and fluffy. Harder than concrete when it dries out.
The dirt looked fine to me
Not much you can do when it’s 100 outside

Looked like Village creek.
Looked like typical Texas dirt to me.
Combo of hard pack and sand sections. Not bad.
River dirt has more sand and holds water much better than that. I was there both days this weekend - worst dirt i’ve ever seen at a pro race.
how you just don’t know about where you’re getting the dirt from until it’s too late is beyond me, massive failure by the smx crew.
this is preventable
More like Shady grove lol
Wow that’s bad. GT Ax has perfect tacky clay. The other AX series too . Matty B has yt on the Va. rnd the catapult was steep & huge Lesser couldn’t clear on on his yz250 the 250 f,s neither in practice. The dirt west of i35 & done east of it . Is desert moon dust . Not much you can do with it. Maybe mix different soils. Truck the dirt in from the Midwest . The rates r nothing west of i35 co.s get .50-.90 . We got paid more than that 4 yrs ago. They could go cheaper & fill railroad cars with from the Midwest & roll them west. Some nice black as tar loam the bike would look Great racing on it. 97 Indy had black loam it looked cool and you can see the bikes a lot better.
I broke my back, and a lot of other things, sampling RV's dirt. Lot of words for it but sandy and soft doesn't come to mind. RV's main issue is there is virtually no shade. It sets up really hard late in the day.
We thought California tracks had shit dirt. That track and dirt was quite disappointing for a playoff round.
I got so damn excited when i learned about shady grove. it was 10 min from work , i though oh damn i could go ride during lunch. Then i went there and well....... yeah that was that.
We went 2x back around 2000. Destroyed a tire both times I went. Did any of y’all ride that shetchy SX track in the far back by the bridge?
First thing I thought of when I turned on the show was, “how is this any different than the MXGP in Turkey?”
Wait what? RiverValley / Mosier (closed) had way more loam. The only track that I would compare this dirt to would be Village Creek. RV / Mosier don’t even come close to what we saw at the SMX event.
That track sucked and the dirt was part of the problem.
Pit Row
We lost the Chicago round for that shit track and even worse dirt .
So you guys want tacky loam at every race?
B-o-r-I-n-g
As a Texan we dont Identify that dirt as our own.
Drove two hours to a practice track yesterday. Dirt sucked. Was great last time we were there but it was absolutely terrible yesterday and we ended up leaving disappointed after a few times out. High tailed it two hrs hrs home to watch the 2nd round of the “WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP” (uh huh ok). Seeing the track and dirt in Texas suddenly I didn’t feel as bad with our wasted 4 hour drive, $90 track fee for two of us, and $70 of gas. That was horrible looking stuff for a professional race.
Does shit dirt and shit track design really excite you?
As a moto guy don't we all dream about loamy dirt? I don't see the issue in wanting better dirt.
The dirt was bad but I think the track design itself was worse, too many goat trails for a place that allows for some open sections
Spun many laps at both tracks. Raced many years at MV. Mosier at least had a sand roller section. And when watered and ripped, the shady parts stayed decent.
At RV in this pic I am about 1 second to a life-changing impact. RV dries to hard clay just like you see here. Its lack of shade makes dry out quickly. I don't recall much sand at all there.
First of all, I went online several month ago to buy tickets and the best seats and best sections were already picked through and I decided I wasn't going to spend the money on seats I felt weren't that good. I'm extremely happy I made that decision because that track sucked balls.
Second, I've seen folks saying the dirt was same as or similar to Mosier Valley or River Valley. All I would say is its too bad you never rode those 2 tracks. Of course Mosier Valley went when Jerry sold the land and gas drilling rigs took over the property.
River Valley dirt is mostly red, not the color of that bullshit dirt. River Valley works up great and can get harder in spots when hot in the summer. I've never seen RV look like that bull shit dirt though.
I believe sadly, the folks who were in charge of the dirt, picked some of the most foreign crapass dirt they could find in North Texas and used it. I thank my lucky stars, I've never rode on dirt that bad in nearly 27 years living here.
People who picked that dirt, are why Texas doesn't have championship riders from the 2nd most populous state of the union.
Seems all fans care about these days is the boring rinse and repeat SX that we get for 17 rounds (except Daytona). Same boring tracks, practiced to death aerial acrobatics...
The SMX tracks are what we should be seeing every week of the SX season. I thought yesterdays track and dirt made it interesting.
I loved lil Deeg’s comment about “it’s like Elsinore at 5pm on a Friday…”…🤣
I spun thousands of laps around mosier valley and was there for the very last practice they ever had. I don’t think the dirt at TMS was that far off mosier in certain sections but it lacked the sand that mosier also had in lower parts of the track.
What people who aren’t from north Texas don’t know is that dirt at TMS yesterday isn’t our “bad” dirt. You don’t know how bad dirt can be until you’ve seen our black gumbo clay. 😆
I think it was just the opposite. It was a challenging sumbitch and it was fun to watch them figure it out.
